Who else has seen "Tri-Shutter" cards all over the internet and thought they might be too tricky? Was it just me? Turns out they are not tricky. Easy enough, and once you make one you get it. I suggest that you grab the measurements from below, then watch the video for cutting/scoring/folding/assembly. Then you'll want to make a bunch!!!
I made two different sizes, and there is more scoring with the smaller one...so two ways, two sizes. I think I like the bigger one better. It's 5" x 7" finished. The other is 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" finished....a weird size, I know. I couldn't figure out how to change the measurements to get it 4 1/4" wide. Maybe another day...
Just a reminder that I am generally Live on-line every Thursday at 8:00pm ET. I am streaming to BOTH YouTube and Facebook simultaneously.
If you are not able to catch me live, you can watch over on YouTube. If the picture does not appear below, you can click HERE to get to it on YouTube.
Let's get into it! I made the larger Tri-Shutter card first. Finished size is 5" x 7". Here is your cutting and scoring diagram, along with your panel pieces. My panel bits are cut to give a 1/4" margin. For this larger one, I CUT first, then did the scoring. Notice how the scoring doesn't go straight down the whole piece...I refer you to the video for this part.
I thought the Stargazing papers and Reach for the Stars would be perfect for this larger size card, and I think I was right! It was really hard to get great pictures with lighting of these. I used some of the Holographic foil for the planet rings. Astronaut was stamped in Tuxedo Black on Basic White, then colored in with one of the Smoky Slate Blends. I hit her with the Wink of Stella all over!
View of the open card let's you see that there are basically three rows, with three colums. I let the Stargazing Designer series paper (on sale now through 6/30/2023!) do most of the heavy lifting. I only stamped on two of the panels.
I thought ink blending black around the edges of my stamped panels would make it more "solar systemy".
Paper Measurements:
- Basic Black: 7" x 10"
- Refer to the pattern diagram for all the panel pieces
Finish off with quite a few Tinsel Gems.
Stamps: Reach for the Stars Bundle, Biggest Wish
Ink: Berry Burst, Blackberry Bliss, Pumpkin Pie, Starry Sky, Tuxedo Black
Paper: Basic Black, Basic White, Pumpkin Pie, Berry Burst, Holographic Specialty papers, Stargazing Designer series paper
Other: 2 1/2" circle punch, Clear Wink of Stella marker, Tinsel Gems 4-pack
Now let's look at the smaller Tri-Shutter card. Notice that this one ends up being 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" finished. For this one, I found it easier to do all the scoring first, then make your cut marks. That letter in the melon colored rectangle is "F".
Open it up and you see a little bit of stamping on the center panel.
Paper Measurements:
- Soft Seafoam: 5 1/2" x 10 1/2"
- Refer to the pattern diagram for all the panel pieces
- Basic White: enough to die cut daises/leaves, and greeting
Finish off with some Iridescent Rhinestones.
Stamps: Cheerful Daisies bundle
Ink: Lemon Lolly, Soft Seafoam
Paper: Soft Seafoam, Basic White, Hello, Irresistible Designer series paper
Other: Cane Weave embossing folder, Iridescent Rhinestones
I really do encourage you to try one of these styles of Tri-Shutter cards. I think I like the larger version better, because there's more room to decorate and it feels less putzy overall. By the way, I mailed the Stargazing card the very next day and it did weigh 1.1 ounces, so I did have to put extra postage on it. It might have been all of the Tinsel Gems that I added to the card. HAHAHAA!
