June 2023 Virtual Workshop - Stargazing Suite

Hello Crafty Friends!

It's Saturday night, and I'm having some quality time with my desktop now.  :)  As I'm posting these projects from Thursday night's June Virtual Workshop - I am laughing again.  How many things can go wrong in one session???  Apparently quite a few!  Even though two of these projects did not go according to plan, I still had loads of fun, and I hope you pick up a thing or two...maybe what NOT to do.  hahahaha!

This month's Workshop features the Stargazing Suite of products.  I'm using the Reach for the Stars Bundle, the beautiful Stargazing Designer series papers, the Holographic Trio specialty foils, and some new gems.  The colors in this suite are so cheery, bright, and fun!  I've said it several times - the astronaut reminds me of the MTV ad when they first started.  Brings back happy memories.

Check out my Workshop of the Month page for details about my workshop - ordering and freebie info.

Just a reminder that I am generally Live on-line every Thursday at 8:00pm ET.  I am streaming to BOTH YouTube and Facebook simultaneously.

If you are not able to catch me live, you can watch over on YouTube.  If the picture does not appear below, you can click HERE to get to it on YouTube.

Also watch this 2 minute video that I did after the fact, to show the Spinner card WORKING.  I had to trim a teeny tiny sliver off to get it to move.  You'll see what I mean if you watch the main video.

First project is a Bridge Card.  I love bridge cards, and had to come up with measurements for a vertical card.  All my previous bridge cards have been horizontal (4 1/4" tall).  I LOVE how this one turned out!  I loved it so much that I made another version in orange/pink for a swap!

Paper measurements:
  • Blueberry Bushel:  5 1/2" x 6 1/4"", scored and fold at 1", and 5 1/4", then flip your paper over towards you and score at 2", and 4 1/4"
  • Blueberry Bushel:  1 3/4" x 4 1/4"
  • Blueberry Bushel:  1 1/2" x 4", embossed with Basics #1 folder
  • Stargazing Designer Series paper (larger planet print):  2" x 5 1/4"
  • Stargazing Designer series paper (small blue stars print):  (2) 3/4" x 5 1/4"
  • Pumpkin Pie/Daffodil Delight:  scraps to die cut flames
  • Basic White: 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" with notched corner, to stamp and cut space shuttle and greeting
Picture of the Bridge fold card standing up.  So cool!!!!

Wink of Stella all over the space shuttle.  Stamp the greeting and hand-cut it.  Pop up with Stampin' Dimensionals.

Stamps:  Reach for the Stars bundle
Ink:  Blueberry Bushel, Berry Burst
Paper: Blueberry Bushel, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, Basic White, Stargazing Designer series paper
Other:  Basics embossing folders, Tahitian Tide Stampin' Blends, Clear Wink of Stella marker, Tinsel Gems 4-pack

For this second project, the main thing is to sponge or ink blend the background that you want on Thick Basic White cardstock.  I suggest using Thick for this part, because you're really laying down a lot of ink and that thick cardstock will absorb it better.  That's a lot of ink....and I really should have let it dry LONGER.  Even though I heated it up with my mini heat tool, it wasn't dry enough.  That's why my embossing powder stuck EVERYWHERE.  UGH....  This is a case of learning what NOT to do.  Don't rush it.  Let it dry completely.  Yours will be prettier.  :)

The COOL part of this card is this foil from the Holographic Foil pack.  It's Starry Sky or Berry Burst depending on which way you look at it.  Very cool!

Paper measurements:
  • Starry Sky:  5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored at 4 1/4"
  • Basic White:  4" x 5 1/4", for inside of card
  • Basic White Thick:  4" x 5 1/4", to ink blend your front layer
  • Daffodil Delight:  2 1/2" circle
  • Holographic foil:  just enough to die cut those planet rings
Emboss the stars with white embossing powder.  Build your planet and pop i tup.  Greeting is popped up as well.

Stamps:  Reach for the Stars Bundle
Ink:  Lemon Lime Twist, Berry Burst, Tahitian Tide, Blueberry Bushel
Paper:  Starry Sky, Basic White Thick and regular, Daffodil Delight, Holographic Specialty
Other:  Something Fancy dies, Tinsel Gems 4-pack

My third project ended up being another calamity!  OMG, I'm still laughing at how bad this went!  It's a Spinner card...the astronaut is embossed in black on the holographic foil.  Very cool...love it.  The spinner part is where things went very wrong.  I've made spinner cards before, so I really don't understand what went wrong.   Answer:  I didn't cut my "gulley" for the spinner big enough.

You can still see some of the holographic colors on this astronaut.  It really is neat.  If you decide not to make yours a spinner card, that works too.  You'll have a nice solar system background to work on.

Paper measurements:
  • Basic Black:  5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored and folded in half at 4 1/4"
  • Stargazing Designer series papers: 4" x 5 1/4"
  • Basic White:  4" x 5 1/4", for inside of card
  • Holographic Foil:  2 1/4" x 4", stamp/emboss/cut astronaut
I stamped the "You're Stellar" right through the window.  Stamp the other greeting on a scrap left over from another card and ink the edges.  You want to glue any greetings or extra images down FLAT, so they do not interfere with the spinner bit.

Finish off with some of the Tinsel gems.

Stamps: Reach for the Stars Bundle
Ink:  Midnight (Catherine Pooler), Versamark
Paper:  Basic Black, Basic White, Holographic Foil, Stargazing Designer series paper
Other:  2 pennies, Basic embossing powders (black)

The fourth project might be my favorite.  It's an Andy Warhol style card.  You stamp the same image in black on different color panels.  You could also stamp in different colors on white panels.  It's really striking like this!  You will need a stamp positioner of some kind - either your Stamparatus or MISTI.

This card is very simple, but like I said - striking results.  Line up all your panels, glue them down flat.

Paper measurements:
  • Basic Black:  5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored and folded at 4 1/4"
  • Basic White:  4" x 5 1/4", for inside of card
  • Pumpkin Pie/Lemon Lime Twist/Berry Burst/Tahitian Tide:  1 3/8" x 4"
  • Basic White:  scrap to stamp greeting
The only thing popped up on this is the greeting.  Finish with some of the gems.  Love it!

Stamps:  Reach for the Stars Bundle
Ink:   Midnight (Catherine Pooler)
Paper:  Basic Black, Basic White, Pumpkin Pie, Lemon Lime Twist, Berry Burst, Tahitian Tide
Other:  Tinsel Gems 4-pack
