That title sure is a mouth full isn't it? Well - we came up with it DURING my live video, because there really wasn't a good name for this fold. Thanks to my good friend Shawn for coming up with the name! It's perfect!
I found this project on Pinterest last year, when I was looking for a different kind of mini album to make. It was called Garden Grove Folded Mini Album with Angela (I saved the link in pinterest!). Well...that led back to the BoBunny blog, and there are no measurements, no instructions, nothing. So I had to eyeball that project, and figure out measurements and scores. I loved how it turned out!
In the past few weeks, I started seeing this "folded card" in all of the Stampin' Up cruise achiever pictures, and knew I had to break it out again. Again, I'm not seeing any measurements, so I went back to my pattern and changed the size to make it smaller. As expected - I love how it turned out! This version is a mini slimline size card, with LOTS of folds so it's very thick.
Just a reminder that I am generally Live on-line every Thursday at 8:00pm ET. I am streaming to BOTH YouTube and Facebook simultaneously.
If you are not able to catch me live, you can watch over on YouTube. If the picture does not appear below, you can click HERE to get to it on YouTube.
Let's start off with the pattern for this folded card. You can adjust this to change the size of your panels, once you understand the scoring, cutting, and folding. For this Mini Slimline version - the panels are each 2 1/4" square, so these numbers reflect that. Watch the video to see how it all comes together.
Previously, I always used designer series paper for my base piece. I thought it would fold up and move easier...turns out, it doesn't matter. Cardstock base moves just as freely as dsp.
I used Pool Party for the base piece, and added panels of Inked Botanical designer series paper (2" squares). Lost Lagoon for the covers.
Here is the open card. There are a LOT of possibilities with this design! You can add little bits and pieces to every panel. That could be pictures, layered punches/clusters, journaling, encouraging sentiments - you can get as detailed as you want with each panel. This could be like a sampler. I left mine with just the different pieces of DSP, just to show how it could look. My intention is to write short messages on each stamped white panel.
This is a top view, when it is open and standing up.
Picture of the back - Notice that the ribbon is only attached to the front cover.
I like my covers to be a double layer of cardstock, so they are sturdy. Glue/attach your ribbon closure and THEN add another layer of cardstock and then some designer series papers.
Paper Measurements for COVERS:
- Lost Lagoon: (2) 7 1/4" x 5", scored and folded in half at 2 1/2".
- Pool Party: 2 1/4" x 7"
- Designer series papers: (2) 2" x 3 3/8" (if using 6x6 paper), OR (1) 2" x 6 3/4" (if using 12x12 paper)
- Other bits to embellish as needed
I stamped and hand-cut some of the leaves/flowers from Inked and Tiled, and then layered a greeting on the front cover. I know you can't see in the picture, but I did add some Iridescent Pearls to the front cover.
Stamps: Inked and Tiled
Ink: Pool Party, Lost Lagoon, Calypso Coral, Petal Pink
Paper: Pool Party, Lost Lagoon, Basic White, Inked Botanicals Designer series paper
Other: Decorate punch, 1 3/4" circle punch, Pool Party Sheer ribbon, Iridescent Pearls
Here are pictures of my prototype. I used retired Flowers & More Designer series paper and the Hello Ladybug stamps and punch.
Let's talk about the envelope - I made it custom-sized to fit this card. In the video, I said that I THOUGHT the minimum height for an envelope to mail was 3". FAKE NEWS! I just checked the usps site and it's 3 1/2". So...I may re-make this envelope, but this is what I made.
Rough pattern - start with a piece of paper 7" x 9 1/2". On the short side, score at 2", and 5". On the long side, score at 1/2", and 8 1/2". Cut the corners off as shown here. Since my card was so bulky, I laid the card in the center of this envelope before I glued the sides up - so it would be tall enough. It's definitely a lumpy envelope, but it needs to be.
I hope you put this idea into your "make it" pile. I think it would be really need to include a few mini pictures.
