Check out these FUN fold Bay Window cards! They really give the look and feel of a bay window, and I must say - are easier to make than I expected. I went through several videos before I found one that I really like, from Deb Smeak. It makes sense, and has a good finished look.
Just a reminder that I am generally Live on-line every Thursday at 8:00pm ET. I am streaming to BOTH YouTube and Facebook simultaneously.
If you are not able to catch me live, you can watch over on YouTube. If the picture does not appear below, you can click HERE to get to it on YouTube.
I only made three cards this week, and I had another one already finished for the end. I'll also include pictures of my protoypes at the end of this post. Measurements for all cards are the same. The differences you'll see are which designer series papers you use for which sizes....
For the first card, I went with all the same DSP. I cut all the strips from one 6x6 piece from the Hello, Irresistible pack. Also cut a couple of the flowers from that paper pack as well. Notice as you look at the card, there are (5) DSP panels. The furthest right panel is actually a separate piece that is popped up, and holds the card tucked together. Please watch the video for scoring and assembly!
- Flirty Flamingo: 4 1/4" x 11", score on the long side at 1/4", and 4 1/2", then flip it over towards YOU. Score at 1 1/2", 3 1/4", and 5 1/2".
- Flirty Flamingo: 1" x 4 1/4"
- DSP pieces: (2) 3/4" x 4", (2) 1" x 4", and (1) 1 1/2" x 4"
- Basic White: 4" x 5 1/4", for inside of the card
The 3/4" pieces are for the outside edges. 1" panels go down next to those, and the 1 1/2" panel is for the center.
This picture shows the card folded flat-ish, for mailing. See that little 1/4" at the end? That's what secures it in place.
I did hand-cut those flowers, after I taped them on to some Basic White scrap. Greeting label is cut from the He's All That dies. I stamped the greeting, then took a Daffodil Delight Stampin' Blend to doodle around the edge, to give it a little more color.
Finished with some Pastel Gems (gold).
Stamps: Layered Leaves
Ink: Flirty Flamingo
Paper: Flirty Flamingo, Basic White, Hello, Irresistible DSP
Other: He's All That dies, Daffodil Delight Stampin' Blend, Pastel Gems (gold)
Next I wanted to give you an idea for using different designer series papers. See here, the outer most panels are the same, then the next panels coming in are the same, and the middle is different. These papers are no longer available, but you get the idea.
I stamped and hand-cut my little sea turtles. I decided after the fact to add some Crystal Effects to their shells, so I did that before I took the picture.
Paper Measurements:
- Night of Navy: 4 1/4" x 11", score on the long side at 1/4", and 4 1/2", then flip it over towards YOU. Score at 1 1/2", 3 1/4", and 5 1/2".
- Night of Navy: 1" x 4 1/4"
- DSP pieces: (2) 3/4" x 4", (2) 1" x 4", and (1) 1 1/2" x 4"
- Basic White: 4" x 5 1/4", for inside of the card
I punched a scrap of Basic White with the Decorative Circle punch, then stamped some bubbles across in Pool Party ink. Add the greeting in Night of Navy ink so it stands out a little bit. Turtles are popped up.
Finish with Iridescent Rhinestones.
Stamps: Sea Turtle, Inked & Tiled
Ink: Balmy Blue, Coastal Cabana, Pool Party, Night of navy
Paper: Night of Navy, Basic White, Seaside Bay DSP
Other: Decorative Circle punch, Crystal Effects, Iridescent Rhinestones
With the last card, I wanted to show that you can create a "window scene". The outer two panels are the same - here I embossed with the Timber folder, and then the 3 inner most panels are cut sequentially from your paper so the edges all line up. I cut apart one of my cards from this month's Paper Pumpkin for this card! I love that kit!
I added some Linen Thread and kept the greeting simple. Layered it and popped it up.
Paper Measurements:
- Copper Clay: 4 1/4" x 11", score on the long side at 1/4", and 4 1/2", then flip it over towards YOU. Score at 1 1/2", 3 1/4", and 5 1/2".
- Copper Clay: 1" x 4 1/4"
- DSP/embossed CS pieces: (2) 3/4" x 4", (2) 1" x 4", and (1) 1 1/2" x 4"
- Basic White: 4" x 5 1/4", for inside of the card
Again - I embossed the 3/4" x 4" strips of Copper Clay with the Timber folder. It really makes me think of the bay window we had at our house growing up - with the wood paneling walls!
