Hello Crafty Friends!
Today I'm sharing the Halloween treat packaging ideas that I created on Thursday night. I like to give holiday treats to my pool teams, some of my work people, and then there are the trick-or-treaters. We don't get many trick-or-treaters, so I make them something special that holds a lot of candy.
This will be the 26th Halloween in our house, and for the past 24 Halloweens I always make some kind of treat container or box filled with candy. The first year, we didn't know what to expect and we only got a hand-full of treaters so the big bowl of candy I had was plenty. You know - the big Tupperware bowl that we all have. :) After that, I started making 20 of whatever I was doing that year, and always ended up taking most in to work after the fact. Or Dave would open them up and eat all the candy. Two years ago, we got 19 treaters and I panicked! We'd never even come close to hitting my limit! So I upped my treat boxes to 30 last year, and wouldn't you know it - we only got 7. HAHAHA!!! I had a lot to get rid of! This year, I'm going back to 20 boxes for the trick-or-treaters, and I made up the patten during my live so you can make some too. The boxes hold 3 full-size candy bars, and you can make them for ANY holiday, themed party, or special occasion.
Just a reminder that I am generally Live on-line every Thursday at 8:00pm ET. I stream to BOTH YouTube and Facebook simultaneously, but I recommend viewing on YouTube.
If you are not able to catch me live, you can watch over on YouTube. If the picture does not appear below, you can click HERE to get to it.
First up is a treat cup filled with miniatures. I got the cups AND the iridescent cello treat bags from Walmart. Sometimes they'll have shorter and wider treat cups. I think these are intended to drink out of. Either way - they work! The bags are not gusseted, but the cups do fit down in there. These are the easiest thing to make - all you have to do is tie the bag closed and make a tag.
Find whatever ribbon or twine that you have in your stash to tie the bags off and attach your tag. The bags do come with the twisty ties...I don't like them, so I toss those in the trash.
Paper Measurements:
- Basic Black: 2" circle
- Basic White: 1 3/4" circle
- Basic White: scraps to stamp/cut pumpkin and greeting
Finish with a few rhinestones.
These are easy to make in assembly-line fashion too. Stamp all the things, punch all the things, cut all the things...assemble.
Stamps: Party Celebrations, Good Greetings, one of the Halloween Paper Pumpkin stamps
Ink: Pumpkin Pie, Early Espresso, Tuxedo (Memento)
Paper: Basic Black, Basic White
Other: 1 3/4" and 2" circle punches, Pumpkin Pie/Basic Black Baker's Twine, rhinestones, Halloween cups & cello bags (from Walmart)
My second treat container involves a soup or vegetable can with the pop top. Don't open it with the pop top! You'll need to cut the top off with your Pampered Chef can opener - that leaves the edge SMOOTH. You won't cut yourself at all. Wash it out, then fill with candy. GLUE THE LID BACK ON. I was using my Art Glitter glue and it did not want to hold nicely. I would recommend using Crystal Effects (or whatever similar product is available) that we used years ago. That stuff really held these lids on nicely, and dried pretty quickly.
Once your lid is secured back on, wrap your can with whatever papers you want. This was a soup can, and I needed paper that was 11" wide...I forgot to cut that extra inch off, so I just kept wrapping it. No biggie. I added some of the Spooky Sweet ephemera pieces, and tied my tag on with some Petunia Pop ribbon.
Paper Measurements:
- Spooky Sweet Designer Series Papers: 3" x 12" piece, and a 2" x 12" piece
- Basic Black: scrap to layer tag
- Basic White: scrap to stamp tag
Again, you can use this can idea for any occasion or themed party. The fun is popping it open to see what's inside. I used a larger can for my friend's birthday one year. You'd be surprised what you can fit inside.
Stamps: Party Celebrations, Good Greetings, one of the Halloween Paper Pumpkin stamps
Ink: Tuxedo (Memento)
Paper: Basic Black, Basic White, Spooky Sweet Designer Series Paper
Other: Petunia Pop 3/8" Bordered ribbon
My final project is a BOX. I love making boxes, and I showed in the video how I come up with the perfect size for what I need. In this case, I needed it to hold three full-size candy bars. Pattern is below.
I would stamp on the paper BEFORE you score anything. I did not do that, but luckily it still worked out.
Here is the pattern that I came up with during the live. You can use cardstock, like I did, OR any kind of patterned paper. Patterned paper isn't as sturdy as cardstock - but really, it's a one-time use, so who cares? They have to rip it open anyway. This is a completely sealed box.
Paper Measurements:
- Grapefruit Grove: 8 1/2" x 8 1/2"
- Score top and bottom at 1 1/4"
- Turn and score at 2 3/4", 4", 6 3/4", and 8"
- Cut tabs according to video, and assemble.
- Fill with candy, and glue shut.
- Basic Black: scrap to punch starburst
- Basic White: scrap to punch label
Stamps: Party Celebrations, one of the Halloween Paper Pumpkin stamps
Ink: Pumpkin Pie, Timid Tiger, Tuxedo (Memento)
Paper: Basic Black, Basic White, Grapefruit Grove (retired)
Other: Starburst punch, 1 3/4" circle punch, Black/White polka dot ribbon (maybe Joann's)
Again - this box can be made for any theme or occasion as well. Don't you love ideas and patterns that work for anything?! I hope you can use some of my ideas!
This coming Thursday, I'll be sharing some Triple Easel cards that I learned how to make from Tricia over at Club Scrap. I'll also open up my 12 Days of Crafting Advent Calendar IF it gets here in time! I'll do that at the end of my video, so if you want to be surprised you can stop watching.
Enjoy your weekend.
Thanks for visiting, and Happy stamping!
