Side-Hinge Cards - a little something different

Happy Saturday folks!  It's back to being HOT and muggy here in Maryland.  Perfect weather for staying inside.  :)  I had a great time Thursday night, sharing these Side-Hinge cards with you.  The side-hinges give your cards a little something different, but still look like a standard card - until you open it and see the hinge.  They are also a good way to use up some more of your precious patterned papers.  I'm using three different prints of dsp on each card.

You can play around with the hinge size - as far as how long you want it to be.  I wouldn't go under 2 1/2", or else it becomes more wobbly.  We don't want wobbly for this card.

Just a reminder that I am generally Live on-line every Thursday at 8:00pm ET.  I stream to BOTH YouTube and Facebook simultaneously.

If you are not able to catch me live, you can watch over on YouTube.  If the picture does not appear below, you can click HERE to get to it on YouTube.

For the first card, I used some butterflies that I had stamped and already cut out from the last butterfly set that I had.  Butterfly Brilliance, I think.  Colored them quick with some ink blending.  Did a little stamping on the Peace Pie layer.

Paper Measurements:
  • Peach Pie base:  4 1/4" x 5 1/2"
  • Peach Pie Hinge:  1" x 3",  scored in half at 1/2"
  • Peach Pie Flap:  4" x 5 1/4"
  • Basic White:  3" x 4 1/4", for inside of card
  • Base DSP (Farmer's Market dots):  4" x 5 1/4"
  • DSP for both sides of the flap (Farmer's Market flowers, and wood grain):  3 3/4" x 5"
  • Peach Pie:  2 1/2" x 3 5/8"
  • Peach Pie:  2 1/4" x 3 1/2"
  • Basic White:  scrap to stamp greeting
Here's a picture of the inside, so you can see the other DSP prints.  If you want to make your Basic White bigger, go for it.  I wanted to leave a bigger border of the DSP, so I could see it.

You really see the hinge when you've got it open.  I added some In Color Shimmer Gems and Brass Butterflies to the front of the card.

Stamps:  Simply Said, Butterfly Brilliance, Spotlight on Nature
Ink:  Peach Pie, Pretty in Pink, Tuxedo (Memento)
Paper:  Peach Pie, Basic White, To Market Designer Series Paper
Other:  Brilliant Wings dies, 2024-2026 In Color Shimmer Gems, Brass Butterflies

For the second card, I used the Frames & Flowers Specialty Papers and die-cuts.  Petal Pink and Pretty Peacock for colors.  I stamped the "birthday wishes" and punch out with a 1 3/4" Circle punch.  Mounted that onto a 2" circle of Petal Pink and then popped it up.

Paper Measurements:
  • Petal Pink base:  4 1/4" x 5 1/2"
  • Petal Pink Hinge:  1" x 3 1/4",  scored in half at 1/2"
  • Petal Pink Flap:  4" x 5 1/4"
  • Basic White:  3" x 4 1/4", for inside of card
  • Base DSP:  4" x 5 1/4"
  • DSP for both sides of the flap:  3 3/4" x 5"
  • Petal Pink:  2" circle
  • Basic White:  1 3/4" circle
Again, here's a look at the inside so you see the different patterns of paper that I used:

For the last card, I used the Take to the Sky papers, and cut out one of the tags for the focal image.  Layered it with a scrap of Night of Navy and glued down flat to the card front.  I wanted the planes in the paper and on the tag to be the focal point.

Paper Measurements:
  • Night of Navy base:  4 1/4" x 5 1/2"
  • Night of Navy Hinge:  1" x 2 1/2",  scored in half at 1/2"
  • Night of Navy Flap:  4" x 5 1/4"

  • Copper Clay:  scraps to layer greeting

I added some Copper Clay Jute Twine to the tag, and then some In Color Enamel dots (retired) to the front.
