May 2024 Virtual Workshop: NEW In Colors!

Happy Saturday Crafty Friends!

I had a great time sharing the NEW 2024-2025 In Colors with you this past Thursday night.  Our new colors this year are Peach Pie, Petunia Pop, Pretty in Pink (a RETURNING color!!!), Shy Shamrock, and Summer Splash. I’ve put them together, and with other colors to share this month’s workshop projects with you.

If you don't have the same products that I'm using, I hope you've got something similar in your stash that will do the trick.  If you don’t have the ink colors, you could use something else close, or do some heat embossing.  Maybe gold, or even black ink is pretty generic.

Check out my Workshop of the Month page for details about this workshop, the ordering special and the online ordering code.

Just a reminder that I am generally Live on-line every Thursday at 8:00pm ET.  I stream to BOTH YouTube and Facebook simultaneously.

If you are not able to catch me live, you can watch over on YouTube.  If the picture does not appear below, you can click HERE to get to it on YouTube.

My first card is a design from Karen Titus, using 1” squares.  I’ve used the new In Color Designer Series papers, but this is a great card design to copy and use up some of your smaller scraps of paper.  I like the greeting in the bottom corner, but you can flip flop these - put a bigger greeting up top, and a smaller image on the bottom.  ANY image would work here - doesn’t have to be flowers.

This card features Petunia Pop and Shy Shamrock.  I love purples and greens!  It’s also fun to note that the patterns in the “family” packs of DSP change every year.  Don’t have these papers yet?  Don’t worry - your Make & Take kit will include (6) squares of the new In Colors.

Paper measurements:
  • Petunia Pop:  5 1/2" x 8 1/2”, scored and folded at 4 1/4”
  • Shy Shamrock:  3 3/4” x 5”
  • Basic White:  3 1/4” x 4 1/2”
  • Basic White:  4” x 5 1/4”, for inside of card
  • 2024-2025 In Color Designer Series Paper: (6) 1” x 1”
I finished off with some new In Color Shimmer Gems.

Stamps:  Simply Said, Cheerful Daisies
Ink:  Petunia Pop, Peach Pie
Paper: Petunia Pop, Shy Shamrock, Basic White, 202402025 In Color Designer Series Paper
Other:  2024-2025 In Color Shimmer Gems

The second card turned out to my FAVORITE.   I call it Double Background because…well…we’re using two different background sets.  It’s a really interesting effect, depending on your background stamps.  You want one that’s more coverage, and the second one to have a more subtle pattern.  I used the new Leaf collection as the base, and then added the Sketched Plaid over top with the lightest ink.

You’ll need a stamp positioner of some sort to stamp the Leaf Collection background, because you want to add two different colors of ink.   I used my ink pad direct to the stamp, started with Pumpkin Pie ink.  Randomly touch the ink pad to the background stamp, then use an ink blending brush to soften up any harsh lines or edges.  CLEAN the stamp (leaving it on your tool), then repeat with the Copper Clay ink.  Make sure you’re happy with the inked images before you pull your stamp off the tool.

Then add the Sketched Plaid stamp with the lightest ink color - Peach Pie in this case.  I love it!!

Paper measurements:
  • Copper Clay:  5 1/2" x 8 1/2”, scored and folded at 4 1/4”
  • Peach Pie:  4” x 5 1/4”
  • Basic White:  3 7/8” x 5 1/8”
  • Basic White:  4” x 5 1/4”, for inside of card
  • Basic White:  scrap to die cut greeting bit from Nested Essentials die
I think using the three different ink colors between the two different backgrounds really notches this card up.   Can you just see it in greens????

I only added some gems to the greeting layer.  I thought they would get lost in the backgrounds.

Stamps:  Leaf Collection, Sketched Plaid, Layering Leaves
Ink:   Peach Pie, Pumpkin Pie, Copper Clay
Paper:  Copper Clay, Peach Pie, Basic White
Other:  Nested Essentials dies, 2024-2025 In Color Shimmer Gems

The third card is using a card sketch from page 22 of the New Annual Catalog.  Card sketches!!!  Yes!!!  Lots of them!  Check that out, and make a note of the page number.  There are over 20 different card sketches to help inspire your projects.  This one uses 3 rectangle pieces, and a greeting.

I also used the Color Wheel from page 132 of the Annual Catalog to come up with this color combination - Pretty in Pink and Melon Mambo.  These are next to each other on the color wheel. That’s another page that will be a good resource for everyone.

I used three different embossing folders on the Pretty in Pink:  So Swirly (new), Zinnias (online Exclusive), and Dotted Circles (new).  If you don’t want to emboss, you could stamp something different on each panel.  Kits will come with these pieces already embossed.

Paper measurements:
  • Melon Mambo:  5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored and folded at 4 1/4"
  • Basic White:  4” x 5 1/4”, for inside of card
  • Pretty in Pink:  (3) 1 1/2” x 3 3/4”, embossed
  • Melon Mambo:  2” circle
  • Basic White:  1 3/4” circle

Finish with some of the In Color Shimmer Gems.

Stamps: Simply Said
Ink:  Melon Mambo
Paper:  Melon Mambo, Pretty in Pink, Basic White
Other:   So Swirly/Zinnias/Dotted Circles embossing folders, 1 3/4” & 2” Circle punches, Pretty in Pink ribbon, 2024- 2025 In Color Shimmer Gems

The last card is a FUN Stand-Up Box Card.  Still takes a standard half sheet of cardstock, with some easy folds.  Folded flat, the finished size is 4” x 5 1/2” - perfect to fit in a medium envelope!  The only tricky bit here is adding your hinges so that focal image pops up from that edge.  I’ve included extra pictures, but you should watch the video for assembly of this one.

I’m pairing Summer Splash with Coastal Cabana for this one - another color combination directly from the Color Wheel on page 132.

Paper measurements:
  • Summer Splash:  5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored and folded at 2”, 4”, 6”, 8”
  • Coastal Cabana:  (3) 1 3/4” x 5 1/4”, embossed with the So Swirly folder
  • Basic White:  1 3/4” x 5 1/4”, to write message on back.
  • Basic White:  4 1/4” x 5 1/2”, notched corner to stamp and hand-cut sea turtle and greeting
  • Coastal Cabana:  (2) 1” circles
This shot shows the back side of the card with the White layer for writing a message, and one of the hinges holding the sea turtle on.

Looking down inside the box card, and you see how the sea turtle is “hanging” on that edge.  It’s really glued down to the 1”circle hinges.

Finished off with some Clear Wink of Stella ALL OVER that sea turtle, and some 2024-2025 In Color Gems.

Stamps:  Simply Said, Sea Turtle
Ink:   Summer Splash, Coastal Cabana
Paper:  Summer Splash, Coastal Cabana, Basic White
Other:  So Swirly embossing folder, 1” circle punch, Clear Wink of Stella marker, 2024-2025 In Color Shimmer Gems

I really hope you enjoy these projects and will copy the designs - even if you use different papers/colors!

Next week, I’ll be having an Online Card Class featuring the Simply Zinnias Online Exclusive products.  Tune in Wednesday, 5/8 and Thursday, 5/9 at 8:00pm ET both evenings.  I’ll be making (4) different cards each night.  There will be a class packet available for purchase, but you can always follow the videos and re-create the projects with your own materials.
