Loaded Pockets and Envelopes Tutorial

Hi Friends!

First of all, I have to apologize for dropping the ball on getting these loaded pocket/envelope projects posted.  Time was not on my side the past week and a half, but I'm trying to catch up today.

While I had intended to have these posted last week, in case you needed a last minute Valentine's project - you can really use them for ANY holiday, or even sending happy mail to a friend.  Fill them with whatever treasures you can slide in.  A lot of people use these loaded pockets to tuck into their journals, or even clip into a scrapbook.

Just a reminder that I am generally Live on-line every Thursday at 8:00pm ET.  I am streaming to BOTH YouTube and Facebook simultaneously.

If you are not able to catch me live, you can watch over on YouTube.  If the picture does not appear below, you can click HERE to get to it on YouTube.

This first loaded pocket is 5 1/2" x 8" finished, and has a total of 4 pockets.  The main on, then two more when you fold up the end, and then I added a gusseted pocket on the back side.  It's very roomy!  I used a piece of the Most Adored papers that are a Sale-a-Bration item this year.

The furst thing to consider here is pattern of your paper - is it directional?  As you can see, when you flip up the bottom to make the front two pockets, the pattern is now upside down.  I was originally going to cover up more of that bottom flap, but changed my mind.

You'll need to watch the video for assembly, but after you score your side flaps, you'll want to fold the top corners down.  I folded mine back/in, so we get this V look.  Some fold them out and you get a shirt collar look.

Paper measurements:
  • Most Adored DSP:  12" x 12".  Score in from each side (left and right) at 3 1/4".
  • Real Red and Flirty Flamingo:  scraps to die cut/punch hearts and letters
  • Basic White:  scraps to stamp/punch bee and wings
  • Real Red (for back gusseted pocket):  4 3/4" x 6 7/8",  scored in 1/4", 1/2", and 3/4" from each side, and 1/2" up from bottom
  • Real Red:  3 3/4" x 5 1/4"

After you fold the top corners down, and glue the flaps in together, score at 8" from the top and fold that bottom flap up to make pockets.

Flip over and add a gusseted pocket.  Pattern is below.  I added another layer of Real Red.  Stamp random shapes all over it.

Side view of this gusseted pocket - it's quite roomy.

Decorate your loaded pocket to your liking.  I added an old doily, button, shaped paper clip, and some letters.

Stamps: Bee Mine bundle, Of Art & Texture
Ink:  Daffodil Delight, Flirty Flamingo, Tuxedo Black (Memento)
Paper:  Real Red, Flirty Flamingo, Basic White, Most Adored Designer Series Paper
Other:   Mini Alphabet dies, Alphabet a la Mode dies, Layering Heart dies (Unity Stamp Co), Layered Floral embossing folder, swirl clip, red button, heart doily

After I making the first one with 12" x 12", I wanted to see if I could make a pocket using 6" x 6" paper.  Yep!  You'll need 2 pieces of the same pattern DSP for the base pocket, then another piece of 6" x 6" for the front pockets.

The diagonal overlapping pockets are from one sheet of 6" x 6".  Score and cut so you get a flap to attach each pocket to the base piece.

Paper measurements:
  • Bright & Beautiful DSP:  (2) pieces one pattern, (1) piece another pattern
  • Lemon Lime Twist:  3 1/4" x 3 1/4" cut from largest circle Everyday Details dies
  • Lemon Lime Twist:  2 3/4" circle, embossed with Cane Weave folder
  • Berry Burst:  scrap to die cut "Happy", and layer Easter
  • Basic White Thick:  scrap to stamp/hand-cut bunny, and greeting
  • Lemon Lime Twist HINGES for front pocket:  (2) 3/4" x 2 7/8", score in half at 3/8";  (1) 3/4" x 5 7/8", scored in half at 3/8".
Here's the pattern for making the overlapping pockets.

The front pocket is made from the ONE piece of 6" x 6" DSP,  and some hinges on the side and bottom to attach it to the front.

Score the DSP in half at 3", then fold one piece down 1/2" to make the cuff.  Watch the video to see attaching the hinges.

I ended up going with an Easter theme on this one, but ANY theme will work.

Stamps:  Heartfelt Hellos, Bunny (don't remember the set, I only have the bunny from it)
Ink:   Pretty Peacock, Tuxedo Black Memento
Paper:  Berry Burst, Lemon Lime Twist, Basic White Thick, Bright & Beautiful Designer Series paper
Other:  Everyday Details dies, Layering Circles dies, Merry Christmas dies, Cane Weave embossing folder, sequins, Clear Wink of Stella, Stampin' Blends
