September 2023 Online Class - One Horse Open Sleigh 5" x 7" Cards

Hi Crafty Friends!

I hope you were able to watch my online class this month for some pretty awesome 5" x 7" cards. I'm featuring the One Horse Open Sleigh designer series papers, and the Snowflake Assortments. Since the DSP is pretty much the focal point of all the cards - you should be able to copy these using whatever greetings you have!  I love for you to case my cards if you have all the materials at home.  Otherwise, I also offer a class packet (US only, sorry).

I have a short turn around time for my online classes, so RSVP/$$ is due by Wednesday, September 20th if you are interested in this card class.  Details are all below the pictures.

Email me at tonistamps@yahoo.com to sign up.

Class packet includes:
  • (8) pre-cut card kits – all different designs, 5" x 7" cards
  • (8) envelopes
  • 1/4 pack of One Horse Open Sleigh Designer Series paper - YOU WILL CUT YOUR OWN DSP
  • Pack of Self-Adhesive Snowflake Assortment
  • PDF Tutorial emailed to you

Dates:
  • 9/20 – RSVP/$$ for class packet

  • 9/30 – Class packets ship out, available for pickup

If materials are late arriving, or there is some other catastrophe, I will let everyone know.

First off - let me repeat myself, so there are no surprises - you will be cutting your own Designer Series papers.  Follow along both day's videos for specific cutting guides.

Day 1 -  Click HERE if there is no video below.

First card of our Day 1 session is a Book Binding card. I love this style of card, and I really like the bigger version.  There is certainly more room to write in these 5" x 7" cards.  The focus here is the paper with the large house on it.  That green bit of DSP along the 'book binding" part is from the same piece of paper, just flipped over.

Otherwise, a very simple card.  I've added some of the new Night of Navy & Gold Glittered organdy ribbon.  I've shown two different ways to add the ribbon.  Tie it in a bow and glue-dot it on, or wrap it around the "book binding" bit before you glue that down.

Paper measurements:
  • Night of Navy:  (2) 5" x 7".  Score one of them at 1" on the long side.
  • Basic White:  4 3/4" x 5 3/4", for inside of card
  • One Horse Open Sleigh DSP (larger lit-up house print):  4 7/8" tall x 5 7/8" wide.
  • Scrap from what you cut above:  flip it over to the green side and cut 7/8" x 4 7/8"
  • Misty Moonlight:  1 3/4" circle
  • Night of Navy:  2" circle

Greeting is stamped, layered and popped up on the card front.  Add ribbon how you like.

I added some Gold snowflakes to my prototype, but forgot to add them in the demo.

Stamps:  Ringed with Nature
Ink:  Night of Navy
Paper:  Night of Navy, Misty Moonlight, Basic White, One Horse Open Sleigh Designer series paper
Other:  1 3/4" and 2" circle punches, Night of Navy/Gold Organdy ribbon, Snowflake Assortment

Next card is a very simple layered card, with a greeting popped up.  The center of attention on this one is the Fox!  I ended up with the fox kind of in the middle.  You can change where you cut yours.

I stamped some snowflakes all over, using Crumb Cake ink, stamped off once so it's very light.  Use any snowflakes you have, or leave them off - that's up to you.

Greeting is stamped in Copper Clay.  If you don't have that color, you could use Early Espresso or emboss with Copper embossing powder.  Cajun Craze might work too.

Paper measurements:
  • Crumb Cake:  7" x 10", scored and folded in half at 5"
  • Basic White:  4 3/4" x 6 3/4", for inside of card
  • Basic White:  4 1/4" x 6 1/4"
  • One Horse Open Sleigh DSP (Fox print):  4" x 6"
  • Basic White:  scraps to die cut label
  • Crumb Cake:  5/8" x 4"
Stamp greeting on label and glue to Crumb Cake strip.  Hand-cut dove-tail ends on Crumb Cake, and pop up.

Finish off with some Copper snowflakes.

Stamps:  Sparkling Snowflakes
Ink:   Crumb Cake, Copper Clay
Paper:  Crumb Cake, Basic White, One Horse Open Sleigh Designer series paper
Other:  Stylish Shapes dies, Snowflake Assortment

Third card is another simple layered card, with a little bird accent. Use any bird stamp that you have. I love the Petal Pink and Lemon Lolly in this piece of designer series paper. Makes me think of early morning sunrise.

Stamp your bird in black, and color in using whatever coloring medium you like. I used regular Stampin' Write markers to color this little bird in. Hand-cut and pop up, right at the corner of the greeting.

Paper measurements:
  • Misty Moonlight:  7" x 10", scored and folded in half at 5"
  • Basic White:  4 3/4" x 6 3/4", for inside of card
  • Boho Blue:  4 1/4" x 6 1/4"
  • One Horse Open Sleigh DSP (Petal Pink/Lemon Lolly/Misty Moonight trees in the light):  4" x 6"
  • Night of Navy & Basic White:  scraps to cut labels from Something Fancy dies

After I colored and hand-cut my bird, I covered her with Clear Wink of Stella.

Stamps:  Perched in a Tree, So Very Merry
Ink:   Night of Navy, Onyx Versafine
Paper:  Misty Moonlight, Boho Blue, Basic White, One Horse Open Sleigh Designer series paper
Other:  Something Fancy dies, Stampin' Write markers (Pebbled Path, Copper Clay, Boho Blue, Misty Moonlight, Cinnamon Cider)

Last card for Day 1 is probably my favorite.  This is a Triple-Panel Z-Fold.  I got the idea from my friend Sue, but for an A2 size.  After some trial and error, I got the measurements right, so I hope you enjoy!  This is a fairly heavy card, with all the layers.   You can't see the side  in this picture, which has some more embossed panels of cardstock.    Again - focus here is the designer series papers.  I stamped a very simple greeting from last year's holiday greeting set.  Popped the center panel and greeting up.  The rest of the card speaks for itself.

You will need to watch the video for assembly, so you get your panels glued on correctly.

Paper measurements:
  • Pebbled Path:  (2) 7" x 9".  Score each on the long sides at 2" and 4".  Cut ONE of these pieces into 2" x 9" strips.  You'll get 3 strips and a left-over bit (throw that out).
  • One Horse Open Sleigh DSP (pebbled path trees background):  trees facing horizontal (3) 1 3/4" x 4 3/4"
  • Pebbled Path:  (6) 1 3/4" x 1 3/4", embossed with Timber folder
  • Early Espresso:  3 1/2" x 5 1/2"
  • One Horse Open Sleigh (deer in the woods print):  3 1/4" x 5 1/4"
  • Pebbled Path & Basic White:  1 3/4" x 4", to stamp/hand-cut/layer greeting
  • Basic White:  4 3/4" x 6 3/4", for back (to write on)

Here's a look from the top, looking down to the card standing up.

Then a picture from the side, to show those embossed side panels.  Sorry about the light...it was so dark when I took these.  I tried to lighten the photo up some to get rid of the worst of the shadows.

Finish with some Copper snowflakes.

Stamps:  Framed & Festive
Ink:   Early Espresso
Paper:  Pebbled Path, Early Espresso, Basic White, One Horse Open Sleigh Designer series paper
Other:  Timber embossing folder, Snowflake Assortment

Day 2 -  Click HERE if there is no video below.

First card of our Second class session is a simple layered card.  Again, the DSP is key here.  Stamp any trees that you have directly on the DSP.  I used the new Forever Forest stamps in Mossy Meadow ink, but you can definitely substitute.

Notice in the picture - the card on the left was my prototype.  I stamped the "snow" stamp all around to make a background.  The card on the right does not have that...you have options.  Stamp a border or leave it plain.

The stamped DSP is layered onto Early Espresso and popped up.

Paper measurements:
  • Mossy Meadow:  7" x 10", scored and folded in half at 5"
  • Basic White:  4 3/4" x 6 3/4", for inside of card
  • Early Espresso:  4 1/4" x 6 1/4"
  • One Horse Open Sleigh DSP (trees on a hill print):  4" x 6"
  • Basic White:  1" x 4"
  • Green DSP from your scraps:  1 1/4" x 4"

Greeting is stamped, layered and glued down flat.  Finish with some of the White Snowflakes.

Stamps:  Forever Forest, Throughout the Year
Ink:  Mossy Meadow, Early Espresso
Paper:  Mossy Meadow, Early Espresso, Basic White, One Horse Open Sleigh Designer series paper
Other:  Snowflake Assortment

Next card is a fun fold that I'm calling a Front Flip Up Card.  I made these a few years ago, but never called it anything.  We've got a base of Pool Party, with an embossed layer on top of that, and then a 5" square card attached to the front of the card.

I embossed a layer of Pool Party with the Timeworn Type embossing folder.  You really just need the ends embossed...the sides that are peeking out.

Notice that the house is in a different spot on both of these cards?  That's all dependent on where you cut your piece of DSP.    Both look great!

Paper measurements:
  • Pool Party:  5" x 7"
  • Pool Party:  4 3/4" x 6 3/4", embossed both ends with Timeworn Type folder
  • Pool Party:  5" x 10", scored and folded in half at 5"
  • Basic White:  4 3/4" x 4 3/4", for inside of card
  • One Horse Open Sleigh DSP (Pool party/Copper Clay house print):  4 3/4" x 4 3/4"
  • Basic White:  scrap to die cut label from Autumn Leaves dies

Card flips open.  You can tell I didn't get this one centered perfectly.  You could attach the card more to one side, so it's not even on purpose.  That would look good too!

Finish off with some Copper snowflakes.

Stamps:  Sparkling Snowflakes
Ink:   Copper Clay
Paper:  Pool Party, Basic White, One Horse Open Sleigh Designer series paper
Other:  Autumn Leaves dies, Snowflake Assortment

Third card is another layered card that I'm calling a Window View card. Imagine you are inside somewhere, looking outside. In this case, my "window frame" is Misty Moonlight. You could make this part brown if you want, to make it more apparent that it's a window frame. If you want.

The key here is to cut your DSP into 2" x 3" pieces, and line them all up. You want even spacing in between and around the edges. Watch the video to see how I cut mine.

Paper measurements:
  • Night of Navy:  7" x 10", scored and folded in half at 5"
  • Basic White:  4 3/4" x 6 3/4", for inside of card
  • Misty Moonlight:  4 3/8" x 6 3/8"
  • One Horse Open Sleigh DSP (lonely tree along fence line print):  (4) pieces, 2" x 3"
  • Basic White:  2" circle
  • Night of Navy:  2 1/4" circle
Stamp the greeting and layer those circles.  Finish off with some Gold Snowflakes.

Stamps:  Throughout the Year
Ink:   Misty Moonlight
Paper: Night of Navy, Misty Moonlight, Basic White, One Horse Open Sleigh Designer series paper
Other:  2" & 2 1/4" Circle punches, Snowflake Assortment

Last card for Day 2 Session is a Large Bay Window Card!  OMG!  I love this card style!  Honestly, it took me a couple of tries to get the measurements right, but I am so happy with my final version!  I hope you take these measurements and create some of your own Large Bay Window cards.

You will need to watch the video for assembly, and to make sure you get your DSP panels cut correctly.

Picture on the upper left has White Snowflakes on it...can barely see them.  Picture on the right has Copper Snowflakes.  They actually look good with the Petal Pink base.

Paper measurements:
  • Petal Pink:  (2) 5" x 7".  Score ONE of them at 1 1/4" and 6 1/2".  Flip it over towards you and score at 2 7/8", and 4 7/8"
  • Basic White:  4 3/4" x 6 3/4", for inside of card
  • Petal Pink:  1 1/4" x 5
  • Petal Pink:  (2) 1" x 4 3/4", embossed with Timber folder
  • One Horse Open Sleigh DSP (larger trees with fence print):  you need (3) pieces that line up, so the tree scene doesn't get broken up.  (1 piece) 1 3/8" x 4 3/4", (1 piece) 1 3/4" x 4 3/4", and (1 more piece) 1 3/8" x 4 3/4".
  • Petal Pink & Basic White:  scraps to punch out with Double Oval punch

Here's a look from the top, looking down to the card standing up.

Whew!  I'm glad I could get this blog post up tonight.  I truly hope you love these cards, and will create some!  5" x 7" cards are a really nice change of pace for making cards.
