Christmas in July 2023 - a few projects using So Very Merry

It's a HOT one today folks!  At least here in Maryland.  :)   For now, I'm inside and cool.  Going to a cook-out in a few hours though.  We'll see how long I can stand it.  HA!

I was glad to be able to eek out a few Christmas in July projects for you on Thursday night.  I got this So Very Merry stamp set at the beginning of the month, and have just not had time to play with it.  This is one of the Online Exclusive items, so it will not be in any catalog.  It's online only, and we also don't know how long it will be available.

Speaking of availability, the Trucking Along Bundle (stamps and punch) has been so popular - it's gone out of stock three times now.  It too is an Online Exclusive item.  Right now, the punch won't be available again until the week of OCTOBER 16th.  That's right.  October!

Just a reminder that I am generally Live on-line every Thursday at 8:00pm ET.  I am streaming to BOTH YouTube and Facebook simultaneously.

If you are not able to catch me live, you can watch over on YouTube.  If the picture does not appear below, you can click HERE to get to it on YouTube.

I started off with a card to show you the "Stained Glass" technique.  Basically, you stamp or emboss on vellum, then color on the back side with markers.  I used a circle punch for this one, and you can see - it only goes DOWN the card so far.  If I was making this again, I would use circle dies, so that I could cut out the circle lower on the card.  You need to cut the circle out of your card base, AND the embossed layer.  The vellum is sandwiched in between.

I embossed the angel image with silver, and colored on the back with regular (non-alcohol) markers.

Paper measurements:
  • Boho Blue:  5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored and folded in half at 4 1/4"
  • Boho Blue:  4" x 5 1/4", embossed with Merry Melody folder
  • Basic White:  4" x 5 1/4", for inside of card
  • Vellum:  scrap...might have been 3 1/2" x 3 1/2"ish
  • Boho Blue:  scrap to emboss greeting and hand-cut banner
I popped the greeting banner up. and added some Iridescent Pearls.  Brush on Clear Wink of Stella on the front of the vellum - her wings and head.

Stamps:  So Very Merry
Ink:  Versamark
Paper: Boho Blue, Basic White, Vellum
Other:  Merry Melody embossing folder, 2 1/2" circle punch, Iridescent Pearls, Metallics embossing powder (Silver), Stampin' Write Markers (Boho Blue, Misty Moonlight, Wild Wheat, Bumble Bee), Clear Wink of Stella marker

My second project is another card.  Similar style with a tone-on-tone embossed layer on the card base.  This time in Copper Clay, and one of the Basics embossing folders (another Online Exclusive item).   I love these larger dots!

I stamped the gingerbread house on a scrap of Shimmery White cardstock and colored in with a few different Stampin' Blends (alcohol) markers.  Hand-cut it, then pop up on some layered circles.

I had a 2" x 4" piece of designer series paper from the One Horse Open Sleigh pack (yet another Online Exclusive item!), and ripped the top and bottom off.  I like torn edges.  If you like neat and clean lines, then don't rip yours.

Untwist a length of the Copper Clay Jute, and tie around the layers before securing to the card front.

Paper measurements:
  • Copper Clay:  5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored and folded in half at 4 1/4"
  • Copper Clay:  4" x 5 1/4", embossed with Basics #2 folder
  • Basic White:  4" x 5 1/4", for inside of card
  • Copper Clay:  2 1/2" circle
  • Real Red:  2 3/8" circle
  • Shimmery White: scrap

Gingerbread house is hand-cut and popped up.  Finish with some Copper Clay enamel dots.

Stamps:  So Very Merry
Ink:  Early Espresso
Paper:  Copper Clay, Real Red, Shimmery White, One Horse Open Sleigh Designer series paper
Other:  Basics embossing folder, 2 3/8" & 2 1/2" circle punches, In Color Jute (Copper Clay), Stampin' Blends (browns and reds)

Third project is a tag that has a pocket on the back to hold a gift card/check/cash.  It's the same shape as the tag base, cut in half and glued down on the sides/bottom.  I wanted to show watercoloring on this one.  Specifically, the wet-on-wet watercoloring technique.  This method gives your inks more spread...they move and drift out more.  I only worked in one or two sections at a time, to minimize bleeding.  The most important part I can say about watercoloring is to use a stamp positioner tool and stamp with a permanent ink and let it dry!  I used my Stamparatus and stamped 3 times with Onyx Versafine ink and let it dry overnight.  You could also emboss the image.

I used the largest two Countryside Corners dies for the base and the wood-grainy dsp piece.  Hand cut the red dsp layer...it's not perfect, but that's okay!

Paper measurements:
  • Crumb Cake:  (2) 3 3/4" x 5 1/2, cut with largest die
  • One Horse Open Sleigh (wood grainy print):  one whole 6x6 piece, cut with second largest die
  • One Horse Open Sleigh (red print):  attach piece from above to the 6x6 sheet and hand-cut
  • Watercolor paper:  scrap to stamp santa
  • Crumb Cake:  scrap to stamp greeting
I like to use more than one ribbon, so I used the Real Red & Burlap ribbon combo pack here.  Jumbo eyelet is from years and years ago.  Finish with some of the red Festive Pearls.

Stamps: So Very Merry
Ink:  Onyx Versafine, Real Red, Old Olive, Crumb Cake
Paper:  Crumb Cake, watercolor, One Horse Open Sleigh Designer series paper
Other:  Countryside Corners dies, 2 1/4" circle punch, Real Red & Burlap ribbon combo pack, Festive Pearls, aqua painters, Pewter Jumbo eyelet.

For my last project, I made a small gift bag using a 6" x 12" piece of the Naturally Gilded Designer Series paper. This is another Online Exclusive item - still available!  A few score marks and cuts, and you've got a small gift bag!    This time I added just one handle going across the whole thing.   You could do a traditional two handle bag if you prefer.

Gold emboss a tag.  I left mine uncolored, but you could change that up!

Pattern for the gift bag.  Pay attention to the direction of your print, if there is one.  Use cardstock for an even sturdier box.  Finished box size is 4" wide x 1 3/4" deep x 4 1/2" tall.

Add the tag with the same Gold/Vanilla ribbon.

Stamps:  So Very Merry
Ink:   Versamark
Paper:  Very Vanilla, Naturally Gilded Designer Series Paper
Other:  Something Fancy dies, Gold & Vanilla 3/8" Satin Edged ribbon, Metallics embossing powders (gold)

I hope you like these projects!  I encourage you to take even just one idea from one of the projects and use it in your next creation.   Have fun with it!

Join me this Thursday as I present my August Virtual Workshop featuring the Darling Details bundle.  ANY flower set that you have can be used to copy my projects.  Seriously.  We all have a million flower stamps, right?

Thanks for visiting, and Happy stamping!
