Use up that 6" x 6" paper!

Happy ....SUNDAY!!!  Geez - I totally blanked on posting this after Thursday's video.  It has been a pretty stressful several days.  :(

In LAST week's video, I shared a few project ideas for using up your hoards of 6" x 6" papers.  I know I'm not the only one that has stacks and stacks of beautiful papers.  This also served as a reminder about my 2022-2023 Annual Catalog Paper Share!  check it out HERE and get back to me by tonight (Sunday, May 1st), if you want to get in on the paper share.

Just a reminder that I am Live on-line every Thursday at 8:00pm ET.  I am streaming to BOTH YouTube and Facebook simultaneously.

If you are not able to catch me live, you can watch over on YouTube.  If the picture does not appear below, you can click HERE to get to it on YouTube.

My goal was to provide MOSTLY ideas for projects other than cards.  I started off with a card and envelope set, and the rest are non-card items.  This idea uses up the entire sheet of 6" x 6".

Pay attention to the direction of any pattern, and cut your designer series paper accordingly.  Then the left over chunk covers most of your envelope flap.  Trim that down after you've glued it to your envelope flap.

Otherwise, this is a very simply layered card with some ribbon wrapped around and then a greeting stamped, layered and then popped up.

Paper Measurements:
  • Night of Navy:  5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored and folded at 4 1/4"
  • Basic White:  4" x 5 1/4"
  • Basic White:  4" x 5 1/4" (for inside of the card)
  • Beauty of the Earth DSP:  3 7/8" x 5 1/8" (for card front), 3 7/8" x 7/8" (leftover strip, put inside card), and 2 1/8" x 6" (to cover envelope flap)
  • Night of Navy:  2 1/2" circle
  • Basic White:  2 1/4" circle (stamp greeting)
Finished off with some Waves Rhinestones.

Stamps:  Merriest Moments
Ink:  Night of Navy
Paper:  Night of Navy, Basic White, Beauty of the Earth Designer series papers
Other:  Waves Rhinestones, Misty Moonlight ribbon

Next up is something fun!  Make your own drink umbrellas!  I had the really long toothpicks, which gives you room to add fruit or whatever you want - but regular toothpicks work too.  These are super quick, and you can get (4) of them from one piece of 6" x 6" patterned paper.

Paper measurements:
  • In the Wild Designer series paper:  2 1/2" circles

You need to cut a slit in your circle, then pull the paper around to make the umbrella.  Glue that together and then glue the toothpick inside.  The long toothpicks that I've got have a flat end on the top.

Up next is a sour cream container!  I used some Halloween papers from last year's Holiday mini.  You can make these for any occasion.  Shape and glue the 6" x 6" paper into a tube - it will look like a toilet paper roll.  Glue down one end, fill with candy/whatever you want, then glue the other end down in the opposite direction.

Score the ends if you want, or use a paper crimper to get that corrugated look on the ends.

Paper measurements:
  • Halloween DSP (I don't even remember the name of it!):  6" x 6"

Next up is a FAST little notebook, handy for your purse or a glove box.  Use a few sheets of copy/printer paper, cut down and folded in half for the inside pages.  I stapled this little booklet together.

Fold your 6" x 6" DSP in half.   Cut and fold up your printer paper, stuff inside and staple in the middle.

Round the corners if you want.  SO EASY!

I also used up the leftover papers from when I cut my pieces down to 5 3/4" x 5 3/4".  Who cares if they're not all the same size?  This is how people put their junk journals together too - all sorts of different types and sizes of papers.

My last project is a small gift box.  I LOVE making boxes!  They are my favorite!  I really love a two-piece box.  I love this size box.  It's 4" x 4" x however-tall-you-make-the-bottom.

You'll use the entire 6" x 6" piece to make the lid.  Score at 1" around all (4) sides.  Easy.

For the bottom - I used a piece of Just Jade cut 7 15/16" x 7 15/16".  Score at 2" on all (4) sides.

The key to getting a perfect fit for a two-piece box is that the  top/lid has to be a smidge bigger than the bottom.

This was the pattern that I drew out to figure out how big of a piece I needed for the bottom.  I cut 1/16" off for the bottom.  When I write "<4"...that's my shorthand to tell myself - cut this 1/16" shorter than 4".

I like making the bottom piece of the box taller, so that some of the color shows.  If I had made the bottom 1" tall, the same as the top, you wouldn't see any of the green on the sides.  BORING.  I want to see all of the colors!

I hope you enjoyed these ideas for using up your 6" x 6" papers!

This Thursday will be my May Workshop.  I'll give you a hint - it's going to be cards for mostly guys.  Obviously, there are plenty of gals who would love a sailboat or golf themed card, but I'm thinking of Father's Day coming up in June...trying to give you ideas for that.  Hope you can tune in!

Thanks for visiting, and Happy stamping!
