May 2022 Virtual Workshop - Cards for mostly Guys

It's Friday and I'm getting my video and projects from last night posted!

In this week's video, I wanted to give you some ideas for "mostly" guy cards.  With Father's Day coming around the corner, I thought this would be a good time for some guy cards.  However, I wanted to be clear that these are not JUST for guys.  I've got plenty of girl friends who would love these cards too.  So I hope everyone enjoys them!

Just a reminder that I am Live on-line every Thursday at 8:00pm ET.  I am streaming to BOTH YouTube and Facebook simultaneously.

If you are not able to catch me live, you can watch over on YouTube.  If the picture does not appear below, you can click HERE to get to it on YouTube.

I started off with a sailboat card.  I used the Sail Boat Builder punch with Basic White and Early Espresso cardstock.  I hand-drew the lines on the sails...I could have done a better job, but you get the idea!

Colors are pulled directly from the Sun Prints designer series papers that I used a 2 1/2" circle of - Night of Navy, Pacific Point, and the NEW Starry Sky!  I embossed the Starry Sky with a new folder, Cascading Ruffles.  I flipped the embossed piece over and sideways, and ripped it in half.  It looks enough like waves to suit me.

Paper Measurements:
  • Night of Navy:  5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored and folded at 4 1/4"
  • Pacific Point:  4" x 5 1/4"
  • Starry Sky:  4" x 5 1/4", embossed with Cascading Ruffles folder
  • Basic White:  4" x 5 1/4" (for inside of the card)
  • Sun Prints designer series paper:  2 1/2" circle
  • Basic White: scrap to stamp greeting, and punch out sails
  • Early Espresso:  scrap to punch out boat body
The greeting and the sail boat are the only things popped up.    Finished off with some Classic Matte Dots.

Stamps:  Happy & Heartfelt
Ink:  Night of Navy
Paper:  Night of Navy, Pacific Point, Starry Sky, Basic White, Early Espresso, Sun Prints designer series paper
Other:  Sailboat Builder punch, Cascading Ruffles embossing folder, Starry Sky Stampin' Blends markers, 2 1/2" circle punch, Classic Matte Dots

Next up is golf-themed card.  Loosely...  I used the body of the sail boat punch to make the golf flag.  It looks close enough.  The little bit of ground around the flag is Soft Suede, punched with the Double Oval punch then hand-trimmed to round the edges.  You could even cut something like that out by hand entirely.

These New Horizons papers are in the January - June 2022 Catalog, and available through June 30, 2022.  The watercolory backgrounds look like scenes.   This print in particular made me think of grass on the bottom (the greens), and then the sky up top (purples/blues).

Paper measurements:
  • Evening Evergreen:  5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored and folded at 4 1/4"
  • Evening Evergreen:  4" x 5 1/4", embossed with Painted Texture folder
  • New Horizons Designer series paper:  2" x 5 1/2"
  • Basic White:  4" x 5 1/4" (for inside of card)
  • Basic White:  4 1/4" x 5 1/2", notched corner for greeting and to punch out golf flat
  • Soft Suede:  scrap punched with Double Oval punch to make ground

I colored the tip of the golf flat with a Parakeet Party marker, but that might not have been a great color choice.  Live and learn!!!  I don't know much about golf.  :)

After I stamped the greeting, and cut the flag end by hand - I ink blended some Evening Evergreen and Fresh Freesia around that.   My intention was to pull some of the colors from the designer series paper back in.

Everything on this card is glued down flat.

I finished this one with a lot of the NEW Rustic Metallic dots...they are gorgeous!

Stamps:  Happy & Heartfelt
Ink:  Evening Evergreen, Fresh Freesia
Paper:  Evening Evergreen, Basic White, Soft Suede, New Horizons Designer Series paper
Other:  Sailboat Builder punch, Painted Texture embossing folder, Double Oval punch, Parakeet Party Stampin' Blends, Rustic Metallic Dots

Next up is a WALLET!  Yes, a wallet card.  The new He's the Man papers and dies are perfect!  Notice how I rounded just the corners on the right.  The label die is from the All That dies.  Simple, but effective for the front of this wallet.

Paper measurements:
  • Early Espresso:  4 1/4' x 11", scored and folded at 5 1/2"
  • Early Espresso:  2 1/2" x 11", scored and folded at 5 1/2"
  • Early Espresso:  1 3/4" x 5"
  • He's the Man Designer Series Paper:  4" x 5 1/4"
  • Very Vanilla:  3 3/4" x 5" (2 pieces for inside pockets)
  • Very Vanilla:  scrap, cut with All That die
The 2 1/2" x 11" piece of Early Espresso is what will make the inside pocket.  I cut the out the a slim "V" shape from the score line, not completely down to the bottom.  Cutting this "V" out makes the card open and close nicely, and the cardstock doesn't buckle up at the center.  I glued down both sides, and across the entire bottom before attaching it to the base.

I realize now that I should have inked all the edges, so that the pockets stand out.  The smaller piece of Early Espresso goes right on top of the pocket, and holds a gift card.

Seems like my Very Vanilla pieces are a smidge too big, so I'll have to trim those down.  I must not have kept my glue close enough on the edge, when I joined those two pieces.  I still like it, and trimming down the Very Vanilla cards is certainly easy enough.

I finished this one with the Rustic Metallic dots as well.  I love these things!

Stamps:  Biggest Wish, Happy & Heartfelt
Ink:  Early Espresso, Soft Suede
Paper:  Early Espresso, Very Vanilla, He's the Man Designer Series paper
Other:  Rustic Metallic dots, corner chomper

Last project is the piece d' resistence!  A record album card!!!  My first thought was to make a record card using this stamp - emboss clear on black cardstock, cut it out, and make a round card the same size.  Did that, and I love it - but it was teeny tiny.  So THEN I thought...let's build an album cover for it!

For the album cover - I stamped some records in black, and colored in the little hearts with Real Red Stampin' Blends markers.  Add some sprinkles and stars from Peaceful Deer set in Real Red.  Emboss the greeting in white on a strip of Basic Black.  Then I colored some Champagne Rhinestones with the Real Red Stampin' Blends.  You could obviously use Red Rhinestones if you have them, but the Champagne Rhinestones are one of my free gift choices this month, and I wanted to show you how you can easily color them to suit your project.  The Champagne rhinestones are extremely versatile like that.

Let me first show you all the inside pictures, then we'll get into the pattern (that I have re-drawn after the video), and paper measurements.

So you open the album cover, and see a little bit of All Together Designer series paper for interest, and then the side pocket which holds the record card inside of a sleeve...this really turned into a whole big thing.

Pull the record sleeve out.  This is a 3 1/2" x 7" piece of vellum cardstock, folded in half then glued up the sides.  Punch a half circle at the top.  The fact that you can still see the glue through the vellum does not bother me.

Then we pull the mini record card out of it's sleeve - can you stand it????

And it's really a little card!  Use a 3" x 6" piece of Basic White, folded in half and then cut with the largest size plain circle from the Layering Circles dies. Put the fold line just below where the die cuts, so you're left with that little bit that keeps the card in one piece.  Card is about 2 7/8"

Here's a clean pattern and cutting/scoring guide.

On the 8 1/2" side, score at 4", and 8".

Turn your paper to the left once, and on the 8 1/8" side, score at 4 1/8" down the whole thing.  On the top half only score from the top down to the horizontal score line, at 3 5/8".  On the bottom half only, score from the bottom up to horizontal score line, at 4".

Cut the X-d out corner piece and flap.  You end up with a flip over pocket with 2 tabs that tuck under so they are invisible.  You get a roomy pocket.

Paper measurements:
  • Real Red:  8 1/8" x 8 1/2"
  • Basic Black:  3 3/4" x 3 3/4"
  • Basic White:  3 5/8" x 3 5/8"
  • All Together Designer Series paper:  3" x 3" plus leftovers from a 6" x 6" piece.  Use the leftovers to doll up your envelope.
  • Vellum:  3 1/2" x 7", carefully scored and folded in half at 3 1/2"
  • Basic White:  3" x 6", scored and folded at 3" to cut with circle die to make record card
  • Basic Black:  4 1/4" x 5 1/2", notched corner to stamp/emboss/cut record and greeting strip

Stamps:  For the Record, Peaceful Deer
Ink:  Midnight (Catherine Pooler), Real Red, Versamark
Paper:  Real Red, Basic Black, Basic White, Vellum, All Together Designer Series paper
Other:  Layering Circles dies, Champagne Rhinestones, Real Red Stampin' Blends, 1" circle punch, Clear and White embossing powders

The record album mini card was probably my favorite project of the bunch!

Next week, I've got an Abstract Beauty class on Monday and Tuesday.  8:00pm ET both nights, live on YouTube and Facebook.  We'll be making 8 cards, and then there will be (2) bonus project tutorials in the video and written instructions for those who participate.

Thanks for visiting, and Happy stamping!
