October 2021 Virtual Workshop - it's Christmas Season!

Happy Thursday Crafty Friends!  Tonight, I aired my October 2021 Workshop LIVE on YouTube!  Yes, my first ever YouTube Live...Facebook was not letting me do a live, so I gave it a try with YouTube.  I like having this option, but it's a little different than I'm used to, so there will be some more learning involved.  :)

For October's Workshop, it's time to start thinking about Holiday cards, but I'm not entirely ready to go full-on Christmas yet.  I still want some Fall projects.  Christmas Season to the rescue!  This bundle offers BOTH Fall, Christmas, and Winter options.  It all depends on the colors that you use!

Workshop freebie for this month is the Gold Holly Leaves embellishments.  Click on my Workshop of the Month page for full details.

Just a reminder that as of now, I normally go Live on my Facebook Page every Thursday at 8:00pm ET.

If you are not able to catch me live, you can watch over on YouTube.  If the picture does not appear below, you can click HERE to get to it on YouTube.    NOTE (added 11/13/2021):  There is a glitch with  my video on YouTube - it gets stuck at about the 7:40 mark...I've sent in a help request to YouTube, but they probably won't answer me.  Since this was my very first YouTube Live...I can't point you to the Facebook video, because there isn't one!  All I can do at this point, is add much more words, to explain what I've done for each card.  I'm sorry for the technical issues!  :(

As always, we'll start in the upper left corner of the picture.  My first project was a Fall card - my idea was to have a Fall colored swag or bouquet, with some gold accents.  The beauty of the make-n-take kit is that you can use whatever stamps you have, and your choice of colors!  I really wanted to put pink in my Fall swag, but if you don't want pink, don't add it.

Colors that I used for my Fall swag - Sahara Sand, Mossy Meadow, Pumpkin Pie, Crushed Curry, Soft Suede, and Magenta Madness.

I stamped and die-cut all of the leaves and berries off camera.  I love these vibrant colors!  Glue those down on the card front.

I embossed the greeting in gold, and then hand-cut it.  Finished off with some of the Gold Holly Leaves and Gilded Gems.  It's VERY gold and eye-catching.

Paper measurements:
  • Soft Suede: 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored at 4 1/4"
  • Soft Suede: 4" x 5 1/4"
  • Very Vanilla: 4" x 5 1/4" (for inside of card)
  • Very Vanilla: 4 1/4" x 5 1/2", notched corner for stamping greeting and all the greenery
  • Peaceful Prints Designer Series Paper:  4" x 4" (this is a JUST retired Sale-a-Bration item)

Everything is glued down, except for the greeting.  That's popped up with Stampin' Dimensionals.  The whole front panel is popped up with Foam Adhesive.

Stamps:  Christmas Season bundle
Ink:  Sahara Sand, Mossy Meadow, Pumpkin Pie, Crushed Curry, Soft Suede, Magenta Madness, Versamark
Paper:  Soft Suede, Very Vanilla, Peaceful Prints designer series paper
Other:  Gold embossing powder, Gold Holly Leaves, Gilded Gems

Next up is a pine cones card.  I thought this is still kind of Fall-ish, but getting into Winter.  Great guy card, or someone who just loves fall things.  I would love this card!  I stuck with only greens and browns, but you could change that up as well.

I've got a layer of Early Espresso embossed with the Timeworn Type embossing folder - I just got it the other day and had to use it!  Leaves stamped in Garden Green - some stamped off.  Pinecones are stamped in Soft Suede and Early Espresso and cut out with their dies.

Staple on bit of Early Espresso 1/4" Faux Suede trim.  Pine cones are popped up, and then I finished with some Champagne rhinestones.

I stamped the greeting in two different colors.  "happy" is in Soft Suede, and "BIRTHDAY" is in Early Espresso.

Paper measurements:
  • Early Espresso:  5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored at 4 1/4"
  • Early Espresso:  4" x 5 1/4", embossed with Timeworn Type folder
  • Very Vanilla:  4" x 5 1/4" (for inside of card)
  • Garden Green:  3 1/4" x 4"
  • Very Vanilla:  3" x 4"
Stamps: Christmas Season Bundle, Biggest Wish
Ink:  Garden Green, Soft Suede, Early Espresso
Paper:  Early Espresso, Garden Green, Very Vanilla
Other:  Timeworn Type embossing folder, Early Espresso 1/4" Faux Suede trim, stapler, Champagne Rhinestones

My third project is a Tri-Fold card with a cut-out in the front panel.  I used the Layering Circles dies to get this cut out, with the largest Scallop, and then one of the circle shapes...to get that little bit peeking out.  This is actually two pieces - a regular Evening Evergreen card base, and then a 5 1/4" x 8" piece of Basic White Thick, folded in half for the inside panels.

Open that front panel, and you see the White layer.  I stamped the Thinking of You with the card CLOSD, so I could line it up within that cut out scallop/circle shape.  Then I went back and added all the greenery and berries.

Open that White panel, and then you get to the inside of the card.  I did a little bit of stamping on the inside, and had to add a few extra berries/greenery to cover up some stray ink from my finger!

Paper measurements (YES, there are only 3 pieces of paper to make this card!):
  • Evening Evergreen: 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored and folded at 4 1/4".
  • Basic White Thick:  5 1/4" x 8", scored and folded at 4".
  • Painted Christmas Designer Series paper:  4" x 5 1/4"
Here's a top view of the tri-fold card -

Stamps:  Christmas Season bundle, Thinking Thanks & Peace
Ink:  Evening Evergreen, Soft Succulent, Real Red
Paper:  Evening Evergreen, Basic White Thick, Painted Christmas Designer series paper
Other:  Layering Circles dies

Finally, we have a truly Christmas card.  I show a technique of using a clear block and a foam ink pad to add ink to the raised bits of the embossed layer.  I embossed a piece of Very Vanilla with the Merry Melody folder, and then used a clear block, dipped in my Crumb Cake ink, and swiped over the raised bits.  If you have a linen ink pad, you can swipe directly.  The newer foam pads are just too juicy and soft - the ink goes everywhere.

Otherwise, I'm adding some of the Cherry Cobbler & Gold ribbon (THIS IS GORGEOUS!), and gold-emboss the greeting panel.

Die cut some of the leaves, and run through various embossing folders to give it some texture.  Glue those behind the greeting panel.  Then add some Gold Holly Leaves to finish it.  Easy, but I think a beautiful end result.

Paper measurements:
  • Cherry Cobbler:  5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored and folded in half at 4 1/4"
  • Very Vanilla:  4" x 5 1/4", embossed with Merry Melody folder
  • Very Vanilla: 4" x 5 1/4" (for inside of card)
  • Very Vanilla:  3 1/2" x 4", die-cut with label

Stamps:  Thinking Thanks & Peace
Ink:  Crumb Cake, Versamark
Paper:  Cherry Cobbler, Old Olive, Garden Green, Very Vanilla
Other:  Seasonal Labels dies, Merry Melody embossing folder, Cherry Cobbler/Gold 1/2" ribbon, gold embossing powder, Greenery embossing folders.

Take a look at the stamps in your stash, and see if you have something that will work for BOTH fall and Christmas!  I bet you have something!  And don't forget to try some different color combinations.
