Floating Paper Strips Demonstration

You may recall my post from a few weeks back showing and explaining this Floating Paper Strips Technique.  I decided to make a video on the process, so you can see it come to life.  It's a really cool way to use up some of your paper strips. I know we ALL hoard some of our scraps - let's use those bits up!

Just a reminder that I go Live on my Facebook Page every Thursday at 11:00am ET.

If you are not able to catch me live, you can still watch it
on YouTube.  If the picture does not appear below, you can click HERE to get to it on YouTube.

The gist of this technique is you take different strips of paper - any paper - and glue to a piece of window sheet/acetate.  Then you put Foam Adhesive Strips behind some of those paper strips (to hide it), and pop it up on your card front.

I showed two different versions.  On the first card, I started with a rectangle of window sheet/acetate - like a regular card layer.

Paper measurements:
  • Basic White Thick: 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", folded in half at 4 1/4".
  • White: 4" x 5 1/4"
  • Acetate/Window Sheet/Transparency: 3 3/4" x 5"
  • White:  big enough piece to die cut your flower/leave and hand-cut the greeting
  • Designer Series Papers:  various colors/patterns cut in strips 3/8", 1/4", and 1/8" in width
Glue down your designer series paper strips.  I used liquid glue.  You could use Glue dots if you prefer.  Once that's dry, trim the edges off.

Add some Stampin' Foam Adhesive Strips to the back side of the acetate, placed behind some of the paper strips - so you don't see the adhesive foam from the front.

Mount your layers to the card front, and add your die-cut flower and greeting.

I finished it off with some In Color Enamel Dots (from last year, but let's use them up!).

Stamps:  Blossoms in Bloom
Ink:  Onxy Versafine
Paper:  White (thick and regular), In Color Designer Series Papers
Other:  Acetate/Window Sheet/Transparency, Meadows dies, In Color Enamel Dots, Foam Adhesive Strips

Next up is the same technique with the paper strips, but this time I cut the acetate out with a die first - so it's a shape.  I used the Layering Circles dies to cut a circle.

I also used the Metallic papers (Gold & Rose Gold) this time...I really like that!

Paper measurements:
  • Basic White Thick: 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", folded in half at 4 1/4".
  • White: 4" x 5 1/4", embossed with the Seashells embossing folder
  • Acetate/Window Sheet/Transparency: 2 5/8" circle
  • White:  big enough piece to die cut seahorse and greeting
  • Gold & Rose Gold papers: cut in strips 1/4" pieces
Same as the first card - glue the strips to the acetate, let it dry, trim it up.

I added more gold to this card with the seahorse and some Gilded Leafing.  I also embossed the greeting in Gold.  Finished it off with some Gold Metallic pearls.

I wasn't sure how all the different golds/rose gold would look together, but I love how it turned out!

Stamps:  Blossoms in Bloom
Ink:  Versamark
Paper:  White (thick and regular), Gold & Rose Gold Metallics
Other:  Acetate/Window Sheet/Transparency, Seascape dies, Seashells embossing folder, Gilded Leafing, Metallic Pearls (Gold), Foam Adhesive Strips
