Pearlescent Paper Techniques - TWO ways!

Hey Crafty Peeps!  You are going to LOVE these techniques using the Pearlescent Paper from Stampin' Up.  Both are very cool, and I know you'll have fun playing and making some really interesting and SHIMMERY background pieces.

Just a reminder that I go Live on my Facebook Page every Thursday at 11:00am ET.

I am really in love with both of these, and I don't know who I can send these cards to!  hahahaha!

If you are not able to catch me live, you can now watch it on YouTube.  If the picture does not appear below, you can click HERE to get to it on YouTube.

You will really need to watch the video if you are interested in the techniques.  For these techniques you'll need:
  • Pearlescent Paper
  • 91% alcohol in a spray bottle
  • blowie tool (either a straw, or the squeezy tool that blows air around)
First up is Pearlescent Transfer - I don't know if this technique has a name yet, but this is what I'm calling it.  You will drop reinkers (I used Stampin' Up Classic ink reinkers - these are water-based) directly on to the Pearlescent Paper, spray fairly liberally with alcohol, blow the colors and pearly stuff around, and then lay a piece of regular White/Vanilla cardstock on top.  That lifts (TRANSFERs) the color AND the pearl to your White/Vanilla.  Let everything dry for a bit.

You can continue to use the same Pearlescent piece over and over until you get all of the Pearly bits off.  Just keep putting more reinkers, more alcohol, more blowing around... you'll end up with a bunch of really cool backgrounds.  USE BOTH sides!!!  When you can't get any more use out of that piece of Pearlescent Paper, then you can stamp directly on it if you want, and use it to make something pretty.  Nothing goes to waste.

On this first card, the tree leaves - bottom and top layer are both from a transfer piece.  I cut the bottom from a piece that didn't get a lot of the pearly bits.  But the top - you can see it looks white in this picture...that's all pearl!

Here's a closeup, at an angle, to hopefully show that beautiful pearl.  I've used the Beauty in Friendship bundle for this tree...I'm really going to have fun with this bundle.

Otherwise, you can see that I embossed a piece of White cardstock with the Parisian Flourish folder, and then ink blended some Crumb Cake all around it.  The top layer of tree/leaves is popped up with dimensionals.  Everything else is glued down.

Stamps:  Beauty of Friendship bundle
Ink: Early Espresso, Crumb Cake, Soft Suede
Paper: Early Espresso, Soft Suede, Crumb Cake, White, Pearlescent Paper
Other:  Parisian Flourish embossing folder, Embroidered Ribbon, Gilded Gems

Next up is another fabulous technique with the Pearlescent Paper.  This time I used Stampin' Blends (alcohol markers), and colored all over the Pearlescent Paper.  Again, spray liberally with the alcohol, and then blow everything around to move the colors and pearls.  You'll see the Pearly stuff come to the top, and swirl around when you're blowing the liquid around.  Let it dry for a bit.  It's SO COOL!

I envisioned a galaxy scene when I decided to try this, so I'm glad I had this Stellar Birthday set.  It's perfect!

For my galaxy background, I used (4) Stampin' Blends markers - Rich Razzleberry DARK, Blackberry Bliss DARK, Coastal Cabana DARK, and Melon Mambo DARK.

Here is a close up of this one so you can see the pearly bits better. (NOTE:  I will have a step-by-step with pictures of this technique using different colors posted this weekend.)

You can stamp directly on the Stampin' Blends/Pearly piece, but it does take a while to dry, and the ink seems to dry a lighter color than I expected.

To finish this card, I stamped some of the astronauts (on Thick white) and colored them in with Stampin' Blends.  Cut them out, and popped them up.  Run some Clear Wink of Stella all over them.  Finished off with some rhinestones for stsrs!

Stamps:  Stellar Birthday
Ink:  Midnight (Catherine Pooler), Misty Moonlight
Paper:  Rich Razzleberry, Misty Moonlight, White Thick, Pearlescent Paper
