Vintage Butterflies

Would you have thought that this card started from the scrap of Merry Merlot, and strip of Fine Art Floral designer series paper?  Well it did!  I am really enjoying these papers!  I didn't really have a plan for this card, so I kept adding different bits and pieces.

I cut a piece of Petal Pink the same size as the Merry Merlot (2 3/4" x 3 3/4" each) - then decided that they both needed to embossed using different folders.  More texture!  I used Painted Texture on the Merry Merlot piece, and Parisian Flourish on the Petal Pink piece.  I almost glued those down on the Mossy Meadow card base, but then I thought....that base was too plain.

Textured Essentials stamps to the rescue!  I went a bit overboard with the "flourishy" stamp - I started with just the 4 corners, but didn't like what was peeking out...so I covered the card base.  Even overlapped some.  :(  That was maybe a smidge too much.  Anyway - moving on...I glued the embossed pieces down directly to the card front.

I was ready to glue down the strip of designer series paper too, but decided I wanted to rip the edges.  Make it a little shabby chic.  I was undecided what to add next, but I had a teeny tiny scrap of the dsp - I looked to my left, and saw my new Brilliant Wings dies and thought - perfect!

Here's a tip - when you are trying to cut something very detailed out of designer series paper, it helps to glue/tape the dsp on to a piece of cardstock first.  You can cut the dsp just by itself, but sometimes a very detailed die makes the die-cut very flimsy to work with...even hard to get out of the die sometimes.  Make it a wee bit sturdier like this, and then die-cut.

So I did that with one of the butterflies, and cut another one out of Merry Merlot.  Not all of the bits came out of the buttefly wings, but I left it!  GASP!  I liked it...   Since I was getting a shabby or vintage vibe from the card, I tucked/glued some Very Vanilla Scalloped Lace trim under the dsp strip.

I finished by stamping "hello" from Quite Curvy, and hand-cutting it.  Pop that up, and then added a few Elegant Faceted Gems (the clear ones).

I hope you find some little scrap of paper or bit of something that inspires you!  You never know what's going to get your creativity going!
