Book Boxes - two different sizes

Book Boxes!  You know how much I love making boxes, and these were a very happy surprise!  These are a great project, and easy enough to make.  They are called "Book Boxes" because from the outside, they look like a book.  Here's a side-view.   The idea is that you make a box first, and then the "book cover".

If you did not catch me live on Facebook the other day, you can still watch it on my Demonstrator Page later, OR you can click the picture below to view it on YouTube.   If there is no picture, you can click HERE to view it on YouTube.

You're really going to need to watch the video, at least to see how to assemble the boxes.  I put all of the card stock measurements in the Description of the video on YouTube anyway.  I had not made a box this way before, and I like it.  You get a sturdy finished box.   This is what the OPEN Book Box looks like -

The gist of this project is first you make the box, then you make the cover.  Glue/attach the box inside the cover, and then decorate.  Make a card to go inside the box, if you'd like to.

Now I will show you my finished projects, and tell you a little about each.  Supplies are listed under each project (some products may be retired).

This first one was my prototype that I showed at the start of the video.  Base color is Flirty Flamingo, and I used some of the Field & Flowers papers to go with it.  Stamped and die-cut flowers using the Art Gallery bundle.  Card is 3 3/4" square, and fits inside the box perfectly.

Stamps:  Art Gallery bundle
Ink:  Flirty Flamingo, Mango Melody, Shaded Spruce, Granny Apple Green, Tuxedo Black
Paper:  Flirty Flamingo, Basic Black, White, Vellum, Field & Flowers designer series paper
Other:  Stitched So Sweetly dies, Ladybug Trinkets, Clear Wink of Stella pen, Basic Pearls, Basic Black Scalloped trim

Then I made a box, start to finish, using the same measurements as above but with Misty Moonlight cardstock.  Same pack of papers - Field & Flowers.  I wanted this one to be a little more whimsical, so I used the Hey Chick and Hey Birthday Chick bundles.

Color in all of the chickens with watercolor pencils, and a blender pen.  I added a bit of chicken wire, using one of the dies from the chicken bundles.

Stamps:  Hey Chick, Hey Birthday Chick (both bundles), You are Amazing
Ink:  Midnight (Catherine Pooler)
Paper:  Misty Moonlight, Basic Black, Just Jade, White, Galvanized Metal, Field and Flowers designer series paper
Other:  Stitched Shapes dies, 2 1/2" circle punch, Wrapped in Texture embossing folders,  Basic Black Scalloped trim, Just Jade 1/4" ribbon, watercolor pencils, Blender Pen, In Color Enamel Dots (they barely show up on the book cover...kind of blend in with the papers).

Lastly, I wanted to make a box using an entire sheet of 8 1/2" x 11".  I REALLY love how this turned out!  Very masculine, or for someone who likes to travel.  I did not put a greeting on this card, because I don't know who I will give it to yet, or for what occasion.  My plan is to stamp a sentiment on a small strip of Very Vanilla, and add it to the card.

Don't you just love these World of Good papers???  I like this map print.  I added some dimension to the top of the box with the Ornate Layers dies, and Old World Paper embossing folder.

To give you a closer look at the top book cover, you can see I used some of the Antique Corners, and some Gilded Gems.  I also enjoyed using the Blending Brushes to add some Cinnamon Cider to the greeting panel.  I cannot tell you how much smoother the ink goes on your projects using the Blending Brushed versus a sponge or dauber.  Game changer!

Here's another close-up, just because I really liked all the details I added.  :)  See how perfect that Old World Paper embossing folder looks on the layer of Cinnamon Cider?  And the lighthouse really fits the theme.

Stamps:  High Tide, Beautiful World
Ink:  Midnight (Catherine Pooler), Tuxedo Black, Cinnamon Cider
Paper:  Cinnamon Cider, Basic Black, Very Vanilla, World of Good Designer series paper
