Northern Lights and Outer Space backgrounds

WOW!  Do you like???  I do!  You can find several different methods for making these backgrounds - choose the one that you like best.  I chose to use sponges and the same colors for both of these backgrounds.  Only difference is in HOW you sponge.

For both cards, you'll start with the lightest color first, then work up to the darkest.  You are stamping on a piece of Whisper White THICK card stock - cover the entire piece with color.  I suggest THICK because you are putting so much ink on it, regular weight card stock will get oversaturated and will take a long time to dry.

In order:  Daffodil Delight, Granny Apple Green, Melon Mambo, Night of Navy.  (Navy overlapping Mambo makes purple).

For the Northern Lights background, I sponged the colors straight up and down.  Then go all around, for a border, with the Night of Navy.  HEAVY on the Night of Navy.

For the Outer Space background, I sponged the same colors, same order (lightest to darkest), but this time all in a circular motion so you get patches of colors.

They don't look like much like that, but you will love your end result.

Finish the Northern Lights card by stamping a line of trees (Lovely as a Tree), in Black ink.  Tie some Silver 3/8" Metallic-Edge ribbon around, and add a greeting punched out using the Classic Label punch.  I finished off with dots using a White Sharpie fine-tip pen.   The pen gooped out on me, so that's what those two smears to the right are.  Oops!  At that point, I was NOT re-making the card.

Finish your Outer Space card with some sprinkles from Nature's Beauty, stamped in Silvery Shimmer Delicata ink, randomly all over for stars/galaxy.  Stamp the greeting from Well Said, in  Night of Navy and add some Silvery Shimmer sprinkles as well.  Staple on a bit of Gray Granite 1/2" Textured Weave ribbon.  Punch out with the Darling Label punch (box set), and pop that up on top of the ribbon.

Grand finale for this card - make a Big Dipper using rhinestones!  I just googled an image, and did my best to lay them down kind of in the right spot.  Close enough!

So, you see, these techniques really are not hard...but they are messy with all the sponging.

Give them a try!  Maybe even experiment with some different colors.
