Sauerkraut jar - Home to Roost

So....I have a tendency to keep jars, thinking that I'll re-purpose them for something amazing.  However, my success rate has been pretty low.  I've had about 8 jars on my kitchen window sill for over a year - intending on painting them.  When I told my husband to save this sauerkraut jar, he gave me the look.  I know, I know!  I'm really going to use this one - it's a good size!

I don't know what I'm going to put in it yet, but I knew I wanted to use this rooster from the Sale-a-Bration set, Home to Roost.   I stamped him in Tuxedo Black Memento several times, using my Stamparatus, so I got him nice and dark.  Then I colored him in with some Stampin' Blends - Poppy Parade Dark, Cajun Craze Light, Daffodil Delight Dark, Old Olive Light, and Bermuda Bay Light.

I hand-cut him, and made a base for him to sit on.  The black doily is actually a Wilton 4" cupcake doily from the cake decorating supplies at Joann's.  I thought they'd come in handy - one side is shimmery and the other is flat.  I put another doily on top of that, then a 2 1/2" circle punched out after I stamped it with the Buffalo Check Background stamp.  I used Pear Pizzazz ink on Pear Pizzazz card stock.  Those three layers are Sticky Strip'ed together, so they won't come up.

Before I attached all the doilies, I wrapped a 2" x 12" piece of designer paper from the Floral Romance designer series paper pack around the jar.  The ends don't meet, so that's another reason for the doilies - to hide the bare spot.  I secured the paper, and the 5/8" Burlap ribbon around the jar with more Sticky Strip.

Here's a side view - you can't really see the pattern on the paper wrap, but it's an off-white wood-grain print.  It goes with the country vibe.

I finished it off with a few rhinestones, and stamping  the words "Enjoy the simple moments"...I hand-cut, but left off "the", so my jar is directing me to Enjoy simple moments!  I will, thank you!  Rooster and words are attached with Mini Stampin' Dimensionals.

Before you toss out your jars, look at them and think for a minute - can I put something in here, or make it pretty...give it new life!
