Gift Pocket Packaging - Gift card holder and/or Giftie

This project is a TWO-FOR.  It's a good-sized pocket that can either hold a flat-ish little gift, OR a card with a gift card and plenty of writing inside (probably will even hold 2 or 3 gift cards.

Finished size of the gift pocket package is 4 1/4" x 8" tall.

The one on the right is the giftie.  I added a belly band, and some gold cord.

The one on the left is the gift card holder, and I will go through how to make the pocket and the card inside.  When I was finished with all the insides, I tied some 5/8" Burlap and Gold Cord around it, tied off with some Shaded Spruce Metallic ribbon.

1.  Designer series paper, cut 8" x 9".  Score along the 9" side at 4 1/4", and 8 1/2".  That folds over to make the 4 1/4" wide pocket, with a 1/2" flap to close it.

2.  You'll need the larges size Oval die from the Layering Ovals & Scallops Thinlits.  You only want to cut a half-oval out of one of the sides - whichever side you decide will be the front.  I don't think it matters.

You need to tape the die down, and then fold the other side of dsp over  - otherwise it won't fit through the Big Shot.  The Big Shot is only 6" wide.  Remember, this piece of dsp is 9" wide, so we need to tuck in a little.

See here - how you have to fold the paper over, on top of the die.  The die is facing down, so it will only cut through the bottom layer.

It will leave a dent your paper, but don't worry about it.  This picture is from another set that shows the dent better.

3.  Once you have your oval cut out, add Sticky Strip/red line tape/any strong adhesive, along the very bottom of your pocket, and the 1/2" flap.  Seal it up.  Flap goes on the INSIDE of your pocket, so you don't see it.

(Sorry if the pattern is confusing you - I made the gift card holder and the giftie pocket using the same paper but opposite sides, but got pictures of both for my steps.)

That's really all it takes to make the pocket.

The finished giftie below.  I added a stitched/layered circle with a tag on the front.  Tied gold cord around the whole thing.

The finished card for a gift card below.  I made some banners, and a layered oval/scallop focal point.   TIP:  Use the Adhesive Sheets on the back of the Gold Glimmer Paper before you cut it out with the Big Shot.  It will make attaching it so much easier.

Measurements/layers for the CARD are below.
  • Old Olive:  8" x 7 1/2".  Score at 4" so the card base is 4" x 7 1/2".
  • Real Red: 7 5/16" x 3 13/16".
  • Shaded Spruce: 7 3/16" x 3 11/16".
  • DSP:  7" x 3 1/2".
For the Scallop/Ovals, I used the largest Oval Scallop, the largest Oval Stitched shape, and then the Whisper White piece to fit inside that.

I neglected to get a picture of the inside, but I made another pocket on the inside of the card.

  • Whisper White:  7 1/4" x 3 3/4".
  • DSP:  7 1/4" x 1 1/2" - only tape this along 3 sides, and place it at the bottom of the Whisper White so it makes a pocket to slide your gift card(s) into.

Here is a picture of the other two gift pockets that I made.  I love these papers!

I hope this gives you another idea for your gift packaging, that you can actually implement.  This works for any holiday, birthday, wedding, baby shower....whatever you need, as long as your paper print matches the occasion.  Go for it!
