Tarnished Foil background
How about this for a neat background? This is called "Tarnished Foil". It gives you the look of grungy, old metal. I love it! I did some searching, and there are some different tutorials out there. I didn't do things EXACTLY the same, so I'll walk you through my process.
The gist is you emboss a piece of Silver Foil paper with the embossing folder of your choice. Smear on some Black Staz-On, then smash Versamark and add embossing powders (heat it up) until you get the look you want. Finish off with a final swipe of Black Staz-On across the whole thing.
How about we slow it down, and go through those steps a little more in depth?
1. Pick an embossing folder that you like, and emboss a piece of Silver Foil paper with it. Then rub some Black Staz-On ink across it, willy nilly. You need Staz-On, so that it will dry on the foil paper.
2. Smash/smear your Versamark ink pad on randomly, and add COPPER embossing powder. (We're going darkest to lightest in the embossing powders, so it's important to use Copper first). Heat it up.
3. Smash/smear your Versamark ink pad on randomly, and add GOLD embossing powder. Yes, you can do this right on top of the Copper bits. Get it scattered. Heat it up.
4. Smash/smear your Versamark ink pad on randomly, and add SILVER embossing powder. Heat it up.
5. Go back and rub the Black Staz-On over top of everything to finish it off.
Here's a closer look at the Pinewood Planks piece.
6. Mount your finished background piece on some other card stock. I used Soft Suede, and then mounted on a Basic Black card base.
I finished the card off with an embossed greeting, and then I added some cut and punched out gears for a masculine card. I did swipe the gear bits with the Black Staz-On as well, so they'd look aged. I don't know what I'll put on the wood planks piece yet. I'm holding on to that one!
I hope you enjoyed this technique! It's very basic embossing steps, just multiple times. :)
