It's Saturday night and Christmas movies started up on Hallmark Channel yesterday - so I'm happy to be home tonight. :) Hopefully I can watch the 8pm movie, then catch up on last night's! In the mean time, I'm so excited to share the projects that I made on Thursday night. I love to make little gifties and/or table favors for the holidays. These projects can work for ANY occasion though - change up the papers, and you've got something for Valentine's, or a baby/bridal shower, any theme you need.
NOTE #1: I have a note in the video description and want to point out the same here - the measurements for these projects are based off of the specific drink packets that I have. They can all be found at Walmart, although I've seen the spiced cider packets on Amazon. I'm leery of food/drink items from Amazon though - I got some coffee drink things from Amazon once and they were expired. Not doing that again! My point is - if you use different brands/different packets, you'll probably have to adjust the measurements.
NOTE #2! Peggy was ambitious and started creating right away. Yay! She discovered a flaw in my design, which I'm happy she told me about. My measurements are too precise. :( SO, I had to add some lee-way into the spines of the Cocoa Folders. The measurements in this blog post are the updated, correct measurements that should give a little more grace. I did not change the pocket or flap measurements. Only the base pieces. Thanks Peggy!
Just a reminder that I am generally Live on-line every Thursday at 8:00pm ET. I stream to BOTH YouTube and Facebook simultaneously, but I recommend viewing on YouTube.
If you are not able to catch me live, you can watch over on YouTube. If the picture does not appear below, you can click HERE to get to it.
First project is a Spiced Cider Double Pocket Folder. The Alpine Spiced Cider packets can be found at Walmart (or probably any store). The sugar-free that I have are harder to find. I wanted a pocket on each end, with a nice square area in the middle to write a message.
Finished size is 4 1/2" x 4 1/2".
The little apples in the More than Autumn bundle are too cute, and perfect for this project!
Paper Measurements:
- Gathering Moments DSP: 6" x 12"
- Score in at 3 3/4" from each end.
- Score up from the bottom at 1 1/2"
- Crushed Curry: 2 1/2" x 3 1/4", cut with postage stamp dies (mine are from Unity Stamp Co)
- Basic Beige: 2" x 2 3/4"
- Cajun Craze: 4 1/4" x 4 1/4"
- Basic Beige: 4" x 4"
- Very Vanilla: scrap to stamp/die-cut drink cup
You'll need to watch the video to see how much to trim off the pockets to leave the middle open like that. The pockets are only glued on the outer-most edge.
I attached some Basic Beige ribbon to the front of the folder only, and it wraps around to tie closed on the side. Finished off with some Streaked Dots. These new embellishments are part of the Autumn Toile collection, and look kind of like wood...not wood grain, but definitely a wood vibe.
Stamps: More than Autumn Bundle
Ink: Tuxedo (Memento), Early Espresso
Paper: Cajun Craze, Crushed Curry, Basic Beige, Very Vanilla, Gathering Moments Specialty Designer Series Paper
Other: Postage dies (Unity Stamp Co), Stampin' Blends markers (Pumpkin Pie/Cherry Cobbler, Old Olive), Streaked Dots, Basic Beige Bordered ribbon
The second project is a beast, but I love it! This double-flip out folder has FOUR pockets to hold hot cocoa packets. I designed this so that the top flap comes down over the cocoa and tucks INTO the pocket...keeping the cocoa packet safely inside the pocket.
Nothing will fall out, and I didn't have to use magnets or velcro to keep the flaps closed. The key is the top flap needs to be 1/16" narrower than the width of the pocket.
Closing it up, you fold in once, so the outer two pockets are stacked on top of each other. This is the part that Peggy discovered was a little too tight, so I added a smidge of extra space in the measurements.
Top view shows all of the top flaps in place - nothing will fall out of this thing.
Paper Measurements:
- Covers:
- Poppy Parade: (2) 6 1/2" x 9 3/8", scored at 3 1/2", 4 3/8", 7 7/8"
- North Pole Delivery DSP: (4) 3 1/4" x 6 1/4". I did (2) prints, (2) of each
- Pockets:
- Poppy Parade: (4) 3 1/4" x 4 7/8", scored at 3/8" and 3/4" on three sides (long side, turn, short side, turn, long side)
- North Pole Delivery DSP: (4) 2 1/4" x 3 1/8"
- Top Flaps:
- Poppy Parade: (4) 3 5/16" x 5 1/2", scored at 3/8" and 3/4" on long side
- North Pole Delivery DSP: (4) 3 1/16" x 4 1/2". Again, I used (2) prints, (2) of each
Flaps up show the cocoa packets tucked in their pockets. Instead of hot cocoa in all four pockets, you could also do something like chocolate bars, candy cane (full size), lottery scratchers...anything that will fit in the pockets.
I used the Real Red 1/2" Shiny ribbon for my closures. You definitely need some kind of ribbon, or even a belly band to keep this thing closed.
Stamps: Ornamental Christmas
Ink: Poppy Parade
Paper: Poppy Parade, Garden Green, Very Vanilla, North Pole Delivery Specialty Designer Series Paper
Other: Spotlight on Nature dies, 2 1/4" circle punch, Real Red 1/2" Shiny Ribbon, Antique Pearls
I showed my original prototype, which I had to turn into a TWO-pocket folder...because measurements didn't work out. I've updated these measurements to give a little more grace as well. I think I like the two-pocket version better, just because it's a little more management - and you can put a single packet of cocoa in one pocket, and then some candy/candycane/scratchers in the other.
I stamped the tree in White Craft ink on Secret Sea cardstock. Let that sit for a while to dry, then die-cut. I actually did two trees. One I glued down flat, then I added the second one right on top with Dimensionals.
Paper Measurements:
- Covers:
- Crumb Cake: 6 1/2" x 7 7/8", scored at 3 1/2" from each end
- Peaceful Gardens DSP: (2) 3 1/4" x 6 1/4"
- Pockets:
- Crumb Cake: (2) 3 1/4" x 4 7/8", scored at 3/8" and 3/4" on three sides (long side, turn, short side, turn, long side)
- Peaceful Gardens DSP: (2) 2 1/4" x 3 1/8"
- Top Flaps:
- Crumb Cake: (2) 3 5/16" x 5 1/2", scored at 3/8" and 3/4" on long side
- Peaceful Gardens DSP: (2) 3 1/16" x 4 1/2"
I used Secret Sea Faux Linen ribbon for this one, and some Iridescent Foil Gems to finish off.
Stamps: Ornamental Christmas
Ink: Secret Sea, White Craft
Paper: Crumb Cake, Secret Sea, Peaceful Gardens Designer Series Paper
Other: Spotlight on Nature dies, 2 1/4" circle punch, Secret Sea 3/8" Faux Linen Ribbon, Iridescent Foil Gems
I hope you love these projects as much as I do! I'm very excited to make some for my pool teams. I do feel like if I put a flat-ish Hershey bar and a candy cane in - I will glue-dot the candy cane to the chocolate bar, so it doesn't escape. I'll definitely keep you posted...that will likely be a December effort.
Join me this Thursday for a Vertical Paper Bag Mini Album using some gusseted bags that my friend Sharon gifted me. I'm probably going to have to do a video ahead of time just for building the album cover - covering the chipboard, spine, and making the hinge system. So there may be homework for this Thursday's live. hahaha!
Thanks for visiting, and Happy stamping!
