Fabulous Foil Projects!

Happy Saturday Folks!

I ended up taking off work yesterday for some appointments, so today feels like a Sunday.  I'm going to enjoy the extra day off tomorrow, for sure!  Let's look at what I made for you on Thursday night.  It was all about using our beautiful FOIL papers.  To be honest, I've got a new appreciation for foil papers and the Stampin' Blends now.  I really like coloring on the foil!  As much as I've typically NOT been a fan of the Stampin' Blends (for various reasons), I am in love with using them on foil.  That being said - you should be able to use Sharpie markers, or any other alcohol marker to get similar results.

I also got into an oldie but goodie technique - Faux Tarnished Foil.  I really love that one!

Just a reminder that I am generally Live on-line every Thursday at 8:00pm ET.  I stream to BOTH YouTube and Facebook simultaneously, but I recommend viewing on YouTube.

If you are not able to catch me live, you can watch over on YouTube.  If the picture does not appear below, you can click HERE to get to it.

I started off working with the NEW Earthen-Toned Metallic Specialty Papers, from the NEW Sep-Dec 2025 Catalog.  I just call this Brown Foil  IT IS GORGEOUS.  SO pretty.   I brought in some retired SU and NON-SU things for these cards - check your stash for what you might have that works.

First card features a Non-SU embossing folder - Fall Leaves from HoneyBee.  This is a 3-D folder that I bought at the Stamp & Scrapbook Expo...maybe last year.  I can't remember.  I love it though.  The beautiful brown foil really goes with fall or outdoorsy things, in my opinion.

I paired the embossed background with some die-cuts from the Circle of Seasons dies, which are still available (as of 9/13/2025 anyway).  I die-cut TWO of the circles in Pecan Pie, and embossed one of them with the Forever Plaid folder.  Glue those together just so it's a little bit more sturdy.  Then add some acorns and the greeting.  I love a monotone card!

Paper Measurements:
  • Pecan Pie:  5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored at 4 1/4"
  • Pecan Pie:  4" x 5 1/4"
  • Basic White:  4" x 5 1/4", for inside of card
  • Earthen-Toned Metallic Foil:  3 7/8" x 5 1/8"
  • Pecan Pie/Foil:  scraps for die-cuts/greeting
Finish with a few Neutrals sequins, which are unfortunately retired now.

Stamps:  Birthday Fancy (stamps from this all-inclusive kit)
Ink:  Early Espresso
Paper:  Pecan Pie, Basic White, Earthen-Toned Metallic Specialty Foil
Other:  Forever Plaid embossing folder, Fall Leaves embossing folder (HoneyBee), Neutrals Sequins

My second card with the "brown" foil uses a full card front Trees die from Gina Marie Designs.  Stampin' Up had a similar die recently - Grassy Grove, so if you have that one, drag it out!  This die cuts a panel that truly is a full card front size, 4 1/4" x 5 1/2".  I die-cut the trees out of the Foil, stamped background trees on my designer paper, then glued the die-cut trees to the dsp.  THEN, cut that layered piece down to 3 7/8" x 5 1/8".    Mount to a layer of Early Espresso, then glue to the card front.

Paper Measurements:
  • Crumb Cake:  5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored at 4 1/4"
  • Early Espresso:  4" x 5 1/4"
  • Basic White:  4" x 5 1/4", for inside of card
  • Earthen-Toned Metallic Foil:  4 1/4" x 5 1/2"
  • Full of Life Designer Series Paper:  4 1/4" x 5 1/2"
  • Crumb Cake:  scrap for greeting
Finish off with some of the Berry Burst gems from Charming Shimmer Faceted Gems.

Stamps:  Forever Forest, Simply Said
Ink:  Early Espresso
Paper:  Crumb Cake, Early Espresso, Basic White, Full of Life Designer Series papers, Earthen-Toned Metallic Paper
Other:  Trees Background (Gina Marie Designs - I can't find it on her web site now.), Charming Shimmer Gems

I shared this card that I made ahead of time, using some of the Foil scraps and an old tree embossing folder.  This is ALL tone-on-tone.  Early Espresso, and the Earthen-Toned Metallic is a great combination.  For the greeting, I swiped my Versamark ink pad on a piece of Early Espresso and embossed with Copper powder.  Then die-cut "hello" out of that.

Next up, I shared the Faux Tarnished Foil Technique.  I really love using the Silver Foil paper for this technique.  Start by embossing a piece of Silver Foil.  Add Gold and Copper embossing powders, to create this multi-colored background.  Finish off your Tarnished Foil piece by rubbing a Black Staz-On ink pad all over the top.

Mount and embellish as you see fit.  I went back and silver-embossed some butterflies to add to this one.  They would probably stand out more if I had embossed with Copper powder.  Oh well...  Try this with different embossing folders!

Paper Measurements:
  • Basic Black:  5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored at 4 1/4"
  • Basic Black:  4" x 5 1/4"
  • Basic White:  4" x 5 1/4", for inside of the card
  • Silver Foil:  3 7/8" x 5 1/8", embossed with Forever Plaid folder
  • Basic Black:  scraps to emboss greeting and butterflies
Add a few Copper Metallic Gems to finish it.   I also colored all over the butterflies with Clear Wink of Stella to make them extra shimmery.

Stamps:  Beautiful Butterflies Bundle
Ink: Versamark
Paper: Basic Black, Basic White, Silver Foil
Other:  Forever Plaid embossing folder, Metallic embossing powders (Gold, Silver, Copper), Clear Wink of Stella marker, Metallic Gems

My last two cards feature the Gold Foil paper and Stampin' Blends.  I think these are my favorites!  They also give me a new appreciation for foil papers and the Stampin' Blends.    Emboss your gold foil with whatever folder you have that has a pretty large image.  I used the Sunflower folder.  The Country Floral from a couple of years ago would work too.  You want something that you can color the raised bits.

I recommend using the DARK shades of whatever Stampin' Blends colors you decide on.  The darks show up better.  Color each flower once, then I went over each again for a second time.  These are SO pretty in real life!

Every embossing machine is a little different, as far as pressure.  When I embossed my Gold foil, there were a few small tears in the gold foil...it's not the end of the world.  Just color over the white rips with your markers.  It will blend in, trust me.

I colored the pink one live in the video.  I used Berry Burst, Pumpkin Pie, Calypso Coral, Mossy Meadow, and some brown Stampin' Blends.   Greeting is from the Birthday Fancy kit.

Then I shared this one that I made ahead of time in more traditional "sunflower" colors.  Stampin' Blends were Calypso Coral, Daffodil Delight, Mossy Meadow, and the same two browns.

Paper Measurements:
  • Berry Burst/Mossy Meadow:  5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored at 4 1/4"
  • Basic White:  4" x 5 1/4", one for inside of the card
  • Basic Black/Early Espresso:  4" x 5 1/4"
  • Gold Foil:  3 7/8" x 5 1/8", embossed with Sunflower folder
  • Berry Burst/Mossy Meadow:  scrap for greeting
I added some Brass Butterflies to the Berry Burst card, and Mossy Meadow Low Profile Sparkle Dots to the green one.

Stamps:  Birthday Fancy kit
Ink: Onxy (Versafine), Versamark
Paper: Gold Foil, Berry Burst, Basic Black, Mossy Meadow, Early Espresso, Basic White
Other:  Sunflower embossing folder, various Stampin' Blends markers, Gold embossing powder, Brass Butterflies, Low Profile Sparkle Dots

I hope YOU also have a new appreciation for the Foil papers and have some ideas brewing now for some embossing folders you might have in your stash.  Get them out and start playing!

Next Thursday, I plan to make a Mini Album using the Weekend Adventures Scrapbooking Workshop Kit, Designer Series Papers, and coordinating Two-Tone cardstock.  I haven't decided on the album size yet, but I'm thinking maybe 8" x 8"....something bigger than I normally do.

Thanks for visiting, and Happy stamping!
