Happy Sunday Friends!
Do you have any paper collections that you're just not sure what to do with? This sometimes happens to me when I do the Paper Shares, and get 1/4 pack of everything. I'm not ALWAYS wild about ALL of the papers. Or I like the papers well enough, but don't like the rest of the suite - so all I have is the papers. That's the case with these Mediterranean Blooms papers. I like lemons and oranges...but not enough to buy a stamp and die set specifically. Good thing about the designer series papers is - if you're not a fan of the "main" side, the "B" sides are always fabulous! In this case, Night of Navy and Balmy Blue with some beautiful prints.
I sure that I'm not the only one in this boat, so I wanted to give you some ideas of what to do with those papers - focusing mostly on the papers. Use these designs with ANY paper pack that you have! I was able to use up TWO entire 6" x 12" pieces on two of the projects. I really only have a little bit of this paper left, so I'm happy about that.
Just a reminder that I am generally Live on-line every Thursday at 8:00pm ET. I stream to BOTH YouTube and Facebook simultaneously. NOTE: Facebook has been sporadically giving me fits lately, so I recommend viewing on YouTube.
If you are not able to catch me live, you can watch over on YouTube. If the picture does not appear below, you can click HERE to get to it on YouTube.
First up is a card design that I've used plenty of times, but never realized it had a real name. This is called a "Chair Rail" card. You can see where the name comes from, right? It would stand out even more if that bottom piece of DSP were wood panels or something. :)
Basically, you've got two different prints. One a little bit bigger (top) than the other (bottom). Add a little strip to cover where they almost meet. That's the chair rail part.
Paper Measurements:
- Night of Navyn: 5 1/2” x 8 1/2”, scored at 4 1/4”, cut with largest die
- Basic White: (2) 4” x 5 1/4”, for inside of card, and front layer
- Mediterranean Blooms DSP print #1: 3" x 3 3/4"
- Mediterranean Blooms DSP print #2: 2" 3 3/4"
- Night of Navy: 3/8" x 3 3/4"
- Basic White & Night of Navy: scraps to die-cut label pieces
Finish off with some regular Basic Rhinestones.
Stamps: Kind Expressions, With You in Mind
Ink: Balmy Blue, Night of Navy
Paper: Night of Navy, Basic White, Mediterranean Blooms Designer Series Paper
Other: Nested Essentials dies, Basic Rhinestones
The second project is one of my favorites for gift giving or treats. It holds quite a bit. It's a Box in a Bag. I had a 6" x 12" piece of the DSP, but found out I really needed to cut about an inch off...so my measurements will be adjusted accordingly. Then I made a coordinating tag, where I hand-cut one of the orange clusters. I'll add a greeting later.
You make the little box as the base first, then wrap/glue the DSP around the box. It's really easy, and a great way to use larger pieces of DSP. This one is pretty big, but you can downsize.
Paper Measurements:
- Night of Navy: 5" x 6", scored at 1 1/2" on all 4 sides.
- Mediterranean Blooms DSP: 6" x 11"
- Night of Navy: 2 5/8" x 4 1/4", cut with Countryside Corners dies (I think the third size down?), embossed with Cane Weave folder
- Night of Navy: scrap to glue Cane Weave embossed shape on and trim around for another layer.
- Mediterranean Blooms Oranges print: hand-cut one cluster
I punched a couple of Keeping Tabs out of Night of Navy and glued to the top of my bag. Punch holes and close with Navy/Gold Glittered ribbon. Add some Iridescent Foil Gems to finish the tag
Stamps: None!
Ink: None
Paper: Night of Navy, Mediterranean Blooms Designer Series Paper
Other: Cane Weave embossing folder, Keeping Tabs punch, Navy/Gold Glittered Organdy ribbon, White Baker's Twine, Iridescent Foil Gems
My third project is a Double Pocket Insert. I got this idea from @Septeria18. She's on YouTube, and I love her projects! You can use these pockets to send happy mail to someone, or fill it up and add to a journal. Either clip it in a journal, or you could add a hinge on the back and glue it in.
This double pocket is made with a 6" x 12" piece of DSP. Score at 4" and 8". You'll need to watch the video for assembly, but it's super simple. The time comes from making the tags and inserts.
I did hand-cut a lemon cluster and glued at the very tip of my pocket flap-over. I only glued where it's touching the flap, so that I could tuck that Daffodil tag under.
Paper Measurements:
- Mediterranean Blooms DSP: 6" x 12", plus separate piece to hand-cut lemon cluster
- Tag #1:
- Night of Navy: 3 1/4" x 5 1/2"
- Mediterranean Blooms DSP: 3" 5 1/4"
- Tag #2:
- Mediterranean Blooms DSP: 2 3/4" x 6", fold up both ends.
- Daffodil Delight: scrap to die-cut tag
Picture of the tags. See the tag on the very right has a tiny tuck spot at the bottom. I did not measure -just folded down about an inch from the top, glued that all down. Then fold up a little bit from the bottom and just glue up the sides, to make the tuck spot. That's just a scrap of folded up Night of Navy to show it holds something.
Use lots of different ribbons on your tags. The more the merrier!
