Awash in Beauty 5" x 7" cards AND a multi-purpose box!

Greetings Crafty Friends!

Thanks for stopping by today.  My live video this week featured some 5" x 7" cards AND a coordinating BOX that can hold 5" x 7" cards with their envelopes, OR something fun like the 5" x 8" index cards that I found at Walmart a week or so ago.  I am always thrilled to find index cards in other sizes, and this was the first time I saw them 5" x 8".  I had to buy two packs!

I like 5" x 7" cards because there is so much real estate to work with as far as decorating.  There's also plenty of room to write a long message, or if you need a card for a lot of people to sign.

Just a reminder that I am generally Live on-line every Thursday at 8:00pm ET.  I am streaming to BOTH YouTube and Facebook simultaneously.

I should note that I used the Awash in Beauty Designer series papers for ALL of these projects.  I had just a few whole sheets, plus a bunch of odd bits to work with.

First project is a bright and cheerful card with a floral background and then a "flower arrangement" to the side.  I made my floral arrangement by cutting out several flowers and leaves right from the DSP.  I backed it with Basic White cardstock first, to make the die-cuts a little bit sturdier.

Polished Pink base, with the pink floral background.  The labels are from the NEW dies - Something Fancy.  These are going to be very versatile for making layered tags and labels.  Some of the flowers are popped up, the greeting is popped up, then the entire layer is popped up with foam tape.  LOTS of dimension!

Paper measurements:
  • Polished Pink:  7" x 10", scored in half at 5"
  • Basic White:  4 3/16", x 6 3/16"
  • Awash in Beauty DSP:  4" x 6", plus another pattern to die cut all the flowers/leaves from
  • Basic White:  4 3/4" x 6 3/4", for inside of card
  • Calypso Coral:  2 15/16" x 4 3/16"
  • Basic White:  2 3/4" x 4"
  • Granny Apple Green: scraps to die cut letters
  • Basic White:  scrap to die-cut label

Finished off with some of the Pastel Sequins from the Jan-Apr catalog.  The pack comes with Turquoise, Pink, and Gold sequins.  I think I used ALL of the colors on this card!

Stamps:  Biggest Wish, Queen Bee
Ink:  Granny Apple Green, Merry Merlot
Paper: Polished Pink, Granny Apple Green, Basic White, Awash in Beauty Designer series paper
Other:  Something Fancy dies, Polished Pink Sheer ribbon, White Crinkled Seam Binding, Pastel Sequins

Second project is a tri-fold 5" x 7", WITH a matching envelope (that I made after the fact.  Ran out of time.)  Watch the video to see where I placed my magnets to keep this tri-fold card closed.    Easy enough card to make, but I think the tri-fold and different patterns of DSP make it interesting.

I always get asked - where do you get your magnets.  Here's where I get mine (this is an affiliate link): https://amzn.to/3b8p7Pk

Paper measurements:
  • Blackberry Bliss:  7" x 11", scored on the long side at 3" and 8"
  • Basic White:  4 3/4" x 6 3/4", for inside of card
  • Awash in Beauty Designer series paper/Mossy Meadow prints:  (2) 2 13/16: x 6 13/16"
  • Polished Pink:  4 1/4" x 6 1/4"
  • Awash in Beauty Designer series paper/Pink and Merlot print:  4" x 6", 9 1/2" x 9 1/2" piece to make envelope
  • Vellum/Blackberry Bliss/Basic White: scraps to die cut labels

Picture shows the tri-fold opened up.  You could add more Basic White to the insides of the flaps if you need more room to write.  You could also add a pocket on the bottom flap to hold cash/checks/gift cards/pictures...

The only thing popped up is the greeting labels, and then I finished off with some Gold Butterflies (they're so small, they don't show up in the picture).

Stamps:  Country Bouquet
Ink:  Mossy Meadow
Paper:  Blackberry Bliss, Polished Pink, Basic White, Vellum, Awash in Beauty designer series paper
Other:  Something Fancy dies, Brushed Gold Butterflies, magnets

Third project is a BOX made out of an entire sheet of 8 1/2" x 11" cardstock.  Very simple box that will hold these 5" x 8" Index Cards AND some 5" x 7" cards WITH their envelopes!  I love a multi-purpose project!  I just wanted to make the basic box - I didn't do any embellishing or dolling up of my box, but you can go to town on yours!  I may decide to add a flower or butterfly...not sure quite yet.

Paper measurements for the Center Step cards:
  • Old Olive:  8 1/2" x 11", scored according to diagram
  • Calypso Coral: (2) 2 3/4" x 7 3/4"
  • Awash in Beauty DSP: (2) 2 1/2" x 7 1/2"

Pattern that I drew out in my video:

Stamps:  none
Ink:  none
Paper:  Old Olive, Calypso Coral, Awash in Beauty Designer Series Paper
Other:  5" x 8" Index Cards (Walmart)
