Cactus Cuties - in some not so traditional colors!

Hello Crafty Friends!

I have been wanting to share these outside-the-box color combos with Cactus Cuties for so long, and I'm glad I finally got to it!  I LOVE, LOVE, absolutely LOVE non-traditional colors for things - any things, all the things.  Pink cactus plants were at the top of my list...I want to try orange too.  :)  I hope you like these!

Just a reminder that I am Live on-line every Thursday at 8:00pm ET.  I am streaming to BOTH YouTube and Facebook simultaneously.

If you are not able to catch me live, you can watch over on YouTube.  If the picture does not appear below, you can click HERE to get to it on YouTube.

First up was my favorite of all the cards - PINK!!!  Pink cactus plants?  Yes, please!  I also decided to make this one a 4" x 6" card, AND I made the envelop out of a piece of Polished Pink cardstock.  NOTE:  I did weigh it in the morning, and it IS over 1 oz. so I'll have to put extra postage on it.  So worth it!

This one is a Magenta Madness card base, with Polished Pink layer, both colors of Designer Series papers, and then some Flirty Flamingo thrown in with the inks.  LOTS of pinks!

Paper measurements:
  • Magenta Madness:  6" x 8", scored and folded in half at 4"
  • Polished Pink:  3 3/4" x 5 3/4"
  • Basic White:  3 3/4" x 5 3/4" (for inside of card)
  • Basic White:  3 5/8" x 5 5/8" (to layer dsp on)
  • In Color Designer Series Papers/Magenta Madness & Polished Pink: (4) pieces 1 3/4" x 2 3/4"
  • Polished Pink:  1" x 5 5/8" (emboss greeting on)
  • Basic White: 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" (to stamp/cut all cactus and planters)
I started out layering all of my DSP rectangles on the White, then on to the Polished Pink.

Then stamp and hand-cut all of the cactus plants and planters.  Glue them together - put whichever plant and planter together that you want!

White-emboss the greeting, and glue that down flat.  Pop all of the plans up with Stampin' Dimensionals, and then pop the entire layer up with more dimensionals or foam tape.

Finish off with a combination of Iridescent Rhinestones, and some shimmery looking sequins from a Paper Pumpkin kit.

I really love all the different shades of pink, along with the different patterns of paper.  Sweet!

Use an Envelope Punch board to make the custom size envelope for this 4" x 6" card.

Stamps:  Cactus Cuties bundle
Ink:  Magenta Madness, Polished Pink, Flirty Flamingo, Gray Granite, Smoky Slate, Tuxedo Black, Versamark
Paper:  Magenta Madness, Polished Pink, Basic White, In Color designer series papers
Other:  White embossing powder, Iridescent Rhinestones, random Paper Pumpkin sequins

Next up is a Black & White.  I love anything in black and white!  I also took advantage of this opportunity to use some more of the All Together Designer Series papers, which are only available WHILE SUPPLIES LAST!

Paper measurements:
  • Bsaic Black:  5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored and folded in half at 4 1/4"
  • Basic White:  4" x 5 1/4" (2 pieces, one for inside of card)
  • Basic White:  4 1/4" x 5 1/2", for stamping/punching/cutting cactus and planters
  • All Together Designer Series paper (2 different prints):  3 7/8" x 5 1/8", 1 1/2" x 5 1/8"
I started this card off by layering the DSPs on the Basic White cardstock.  I actually had my white-embossed greeting left over from something else - so that was just a matter of figuring out where I wanted to put that.

I only wanted to use two colors on this card - gray and black!  So I stamped a mix of gray and black cactus and planters and then mixed those up.  I wanted a gray cactus with a black planter, and the opposite.

Pop the cactus plants up with Stampin' Dimensionals, and then I finished off with some Opal Rounds.

Ink:  Smoky Slate, Tuxedo Black, Versamark
Paper:  Basic Black, Basic White, All Together designer series papers
Other:  Pick a Banner punch, White embossing powder, Opal Rounds

For the last card, I finally got to try something out that I've had on my TO DO list for almost an entire year!  I've wanted to emboss this Paper Lattice with some metallic color.  This Paper Lattice reminds me of a wall of shelves to hold plants.  I decided to pair Copper with Night of Navy - and I love it!  The brown tone of the copper really works nicely with the Night of Navy.

Paper measurements:
  • Night of Navy:  5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored and folded in half at 4 1/4"
  • Night of Navy:  4" x 5 1/4", embossed with Parisian Flourish folder
  • Very Vanilla:  4" x 5 1/4" (for inside of card)
  • Very Vanilla and Night of Navy scraps:  for stamping/punching/cutting cactus and greeting
I had pre-embossed the Night of Navy layer with the Parisian Flourish folder...I am so sad that this folder is retiring!!  It has been a true favorite of mine for the past few years.

So I really started off this card with all of the embossing.  To emboss the entire Paper Lattice, I smashed my Versamark ink pad all over it. I worked on half at a time.

After embossing the Paper Lattice, I embossed the flower pot and greeting, both on Night of Navy.  I really don't know WHY I embossed the flower pot on Navy when I was cutting it out...oh well!

Stamp the largest cactus plant in Night of Navy on Very Vanilla, and hand-cut that.

Place the cactus and greeting - pop them up with Stampin' Dimensionals, and then add a few Copper dots from the Brushed Metallic Dots.

Ink:  Night of Navy, Versamark
Paper:  Night of Navy, Very Vanilla
Other:  Paper Lattice, Copper embossing powder, Brushed Metallic Adhesive-backed Dots

I still have so many other non-traditional colors that I want to try with this Cactus Cuties bundle.  It's available until June 30, 2022 in the mini catalog so there's still plenty of time!  This is one bundle that is NOT carrying over to the new catalog, so get it while it's still available!

Next Thursday, I'll be presenting my Retirement Workshop.  Every year, when the Last Chance/Retirement list comes out, I focus my last workhop of the catalog year on those products.  Tune in for some ideas on things you may already have, or want to grab before they're gone!

Thanks for visiting, and Happy stamping!
