Hello Crafty Friends!
What did you do for Superbowl last weekend? I'll tell you what I did - I held a Superbowl Squares Stampin' Style event!!! We ran a football squares chart, and the prizes were $100 shopping sprees for Stampin' Up stuff. Then, to make it more fun for you all, I went on Facebook Live after EVERY quarter and made something. FUN, right?!
The day before Superbowl, I posted some challenges for each quarter, so that folks could stamp along with me if they wanted. Here were the challenges:
1st Quarter: Punch Art, sports theme
2nd Quarter: Bengals Color Challenge - Orange/Black/White
3rd Quarter: Rams Color Challenge - Royal/Gold
Final: Square Card (AND I also show you how to make a perfectly sized envelope for a 4 1/4" square card!)
These are the cards that I ended up making throughout the evening.
If you are not able to catch me live, you can watch over on YouTube. If the picture does not appear below, you can click HERE to get to it on YouTube.
1st Quarter Challenge: Punch Art, sports theme!
Now before we get into each project, I'll just say - the challenges were just a guideline, NOT a hard line requirement. If you didn't want to do punch art, or make it sports theme - that was completely fine. The challenges are always meant to be something fun.
For my first challenge card, I showed how to make a football (looks a little OVER-inflated) using a 2 1/2" circle punch and a post-it note, and the Hammered Metal embossing folder.
Paper measurements:
- Cinnamon Cider: 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", folded in half at 4 1/4"
- Basic White: 4" x 5 1/4" (2, one for inside of card)
- Just Jade: 3 3/4" x 5"
- Basic White: 3/16" strips, for yard markers
- Cinnamon Cider: 3" x 3" (2 pieces, to make football)
- Just Jade & Cinnamon Cider: scraps for greeting.
The Basic White 3/16" strips are glued down flat to the Just Jade, to make the footbal field.
Football and greeting are popped up. Finished off with some gold Brushed Metallic dots.
Stamps: Happy & Heartfelt
Ink: Versamark
Paper: Cinnamon Cider, Just Jade, Basic White
Other: Hammered Metal embossing folder, 2 1/2" circle punch, Triple Banner punch, White embossing powder, Brushed Metallic Dots
2nd Quarter Challenge: Bengals Color Challenge - Orange, Black, White
I used TWO shades of Orange for my challenge card - Pumpkin Pie, and Pale Papaya. I cut strips of each color - 3/16" and 1/4". Just glue them down flat on to a piece of Basic White, and then layer that on to Basic Black.
Paper measurements:
- Pumpkin Pie: 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", folded in half at 4 1/4"
- Basic Black: 4" x 5 1/4"
- Basic White: 3 7/8" x 5 1/8"
- Basic White: 4" x 5 1/4" (for inside of card)
- Basic Black/White: scraps for greeting
After gluing all of the orange strips down, add some Basic Black flower die-cuts using the Meadows dies. Then stamp and punch the greeting with the Double Oval punch.
Finished off with some Iridescent Rhinestones!

Ink: Onxy Versafine
Paper: Pumpkin Pie, Pale Papaya, Basic Black, Basic White
Other: Meadows dies, Double Oval punch, Iridescent Rhinestones
3rd Quarter Challenge: Rams Color Challenge - Royal Blue and Gold
I don't have ANY shade of blue in my stash that is Royal Blue...so I used Night of Navy. And frankly, the color says GOLD, but it's more yellow looking. I went with traditional gold - it's a challenge, not a life-or-death decision.
I wanted all blue and gold, so I tried to get some variation in the blue by stamping off for some of the flowers. It's not very noticeable in the end. :( I tried.
Using Night of Navy ink, I stamped flowers from Flowing Flowers all over the white layer. Fill it up. Then stamp some images from Tasteful Touches all over the Night of Navy strip.
Paper measurements:
- Night of Navy: 5 1/2" x 8 1/2", folded in half at 4 1/4"
- Basic White: 4" x 5 1/4" (2, one for inside of card)
- Night of Navy: 2" x 5 1/2"
- Basic White: scraps to stamp/cut flower and banner for greeting
- Gold Foil and Gold Metallic: scraps to punch and die-cut leaves
Before I mount the navy inked/white layer to the card base, I dragged my Versamark ink pad around all of the edges and added gold embossing powder.
Stamp and hand-cut a larger flower, and I added some gold embossing to the tips of the flower. Then I also gold-embossed the greeting on a label, cut from the Tasteful Labels dies.
Metallic Gold and Gold Foil papers were PERFECT for added touches of gold. I die cut the Metallic gold paper with the new Artfully Layered dies, and punched the Gold Foil with the Bough punch.
Finished with some Gilded Gems. They're so chunky and just right for this card!
Stamps: Flowing Flowers
Ink: Night of Navy, Versamark
Paper: Night of Navy, Basic White, Metallic Gold, Gold Foil
Other: Tasteful Labels dies, Gold embossing powder, Gilded Gems
Final Quarter: Square Card! In honor of our "Superbowl Squares" event!
For the last challenge, I wanted to make a square card, AND as an added bonus - I'll tell you how to make an envelope that is sized perfectly to hold this 4 1/4" square card.
I'm using the Cactus Cuties stamp set for this adorable 4 1/4" square card. I also went with non-traditional colors. I really like using outside-the-box colors for things. Pink cactus? SURE! Why not? It's pretty!
This card was actually very simple - stamp all the cactus pieces, and put some of them in pots. Emboss the greeting in white, and then attach everything.
Paper measurements:
- Magenta Madness: 4 1/4" x 8 1/2", folded in half at 4 1/4"
- Granny Apple Green: 4" x 4"
- Basic White: 4" x 4" (for inside of card)
- Sunshine & Rainbows Designer series paper: 3 7/8" x 3 7/8"
- Bermuda Bay: 1" x 4"
- Basic White: scraps to stamp/cut all of the cactus and pots
Emboss the greeting, and glue that layer down flat. Pop that whole layer up on to the card base.
After stamping and cutting out all the cactus plants and flower pots, I glued two of the plants to the pots. All of the plants are popped up with dimensionals.
Finish off with a bunch of Iridescent Rhinestones!
Stamps: Cactus Cuties
Ink: Versamark, Magenta Madness, Granny Apple Green, Misty Moonlight, Bermuda Bay, Daffodil Delight, Mango Melody
Paper: Magenta Madness, Granny Apple Green, Bermuda Bay, Basic White, Sunshine & Rainbows Designer series paper (Sale-A-Bration freebie with $50 purchase!)
Other: Tasteful Labels dies, Gold embossing powder, Gilded Gems
For the envelope - you'll need an Envelope Punch board. Cardstock is 7 1/4" x 7 1/4". First score mark is at 3 5/8"! Then continue turning your cardstock to the left and scoring like you normally do with the Envelope Punch Board. Awesome!!!
I really hope you enjoy these projects! It was a fun, but exhausting evening. I will definitely do this again next year, and will try to make some improvements!
Don't forget about my Workshop of the Month page for full details of this month's offer - which ends on Feb 28th at 9:00pm ET! I'm giving away a Calming Camellias stamp set - winner will be drawn from everyone who places their qualifying order on-line.
