Who is ready for a few more sneak peeks of some upcoming Sale-a-Bration freebies?! This week, I'm using the Summer Shadows dies, which are a Sale-a-Bration freebie with your $100 purchase. They match the Shaded Summer stamp set, which was NEW in our latest Annual Catalog.
When I first got my Annual Catalog, the Shaded Summer was on my short list to buy first, but I really didn't fancy the idea of having to hand-cut those flowers...so I did not buy it until I saw the matching dies in the Sale-a-Bration catalog. I had to have them!
Just a reminder that I normally go Live on my Facebook Page every Thursday at 11:00am ET. NOTE: This will change starting August 1st, when I go back to day shift hours at work. I'll move my Lives to 8:00pm ET.
If you were not able to catch me live, you can still watch it on YouTube! If the picture does not appear below, you can click HERE to get to it on YouTube.
Let's start with the Criss Cross Pocket first. My design is loosely based on the Criss Cross Card Tutorial on splitcoaststampers, however, I no longer like the idea of using two pieces of cardstock to make the base. I have made plenty of Criss Cross cards in the past 20 years with the original method, but now I'm changing it up!
The base of my Criss Cross pocket is just ONE piece of card stock, scored to make flaps. Then the flaps are trimmed off at angles, to fold in as you see here. Notice that the flaps only reach part of the way across the front - that's okay! It still makes a pocket!
Keep in mind that this pocket can be used in any journal or scrapbook also. Put your favorite bits of ephemera inside, along with journaling cards and/or pictures. Use this pocket however you want!
I cut my flowers ahead of time using the Summer Shadows dies. I used card stock and Shimmer Vellum in some of the new In Colors - layering the shimmer vellum on top of the same color card stock. I like it!
- Fresh Freesia: 5 1/2" x 11", scored at 3 3/8", and 7 5/8".
- Pansy Petals Designer Series Paper: 3 1/4" x 5 3/8", cut in half diagonally. (Pansy Petals DSPs are 15% off now, through 7/31!!!)
- Pale Papaya: 4" x 5"
- Basic White: 3 13/16" x 4 13/16"
- In Color Shimmer Vellum: bits to die-cut flowers
- Polished Pink/Fresh Freesia/Pale Papaya: bits to die-cut flowers
- Basic White: scrap to punch out oval for greeting
Once you score and cut your base piece, you'll cut the designer series paper and attach to the front of the Criss Cross flaps. Seal up the pocket along the bottom.
Then I moved on to stamping the card insert. I stamped some tone-on-tone flowers on the back side of the Pale Papaya, so it's not so plain when you see it in the pocket. Stamp some Fresh Freesia flowers on the front bit, and mount it on the Pale Papaya. My thinking is that I want whatever I write on the card to be flipped over, so you don't see it immediately.
After you slide the card in, wrap some Fresh Freesia ribbon around the pocket and then attach the flowers. Glue some down flat, and pop some up with Stampin' Dimensionals.
Then I stamped the greeting, and punched out with the Double Oval punch. I was going to mount the greeting on a white scallop, but changed my mind.
Finish off with some Loose Flower Flourishes - they are SO teeny tiny, but the perfect little accent here.
Stamps: Shaded Summer
Ink: Polished Pink
Paper: Fresh Freesia, Pale Papaya, Polished Pink, In Color Shimmer Vellum, Basic White, Pansy Petals designer series paper
Other: Summer Shadows dies, Double Oval punch, Fresh Freesia 3/8" Open Weave ribbon, Loose Flower Flourishes
Next up is a tag, which I have to say is my absolute FAVORITE project out of the three. I went with a Gold and Vanilla theme for this jumbo tag.
Again, I die cut the flowers ahead of time - using Gold Metallic and Gold Foil papers. These are SO pretty together! Sparkly AND shiny.
Paper measurements:
- Very Vanilla: 3" x 6", embossed with the Tasteful Textile folder
- Simply Elegant Designer Series paper: 2 13/16" x 5 13/16"
- Gold Metallic and Gold Foil: bits to die cut flowers
- Very Vanilla: 3" x 3" piece to stamp and punch greeting
I first layered the Simply Elegant dsp on to the embossed Vanilla tag base. Punch a hole up top, and tie on a few different ribbons and trim.
Emboss the greeting, and punch out. I popped that up on the tag with Stampin' Dimensionals. Then add your gold flowers... I can't stand how pretty this really is!
I added Gold Metallic Pearls to the centers of the smaller flowers - this was to cover up the white Stampin' Dimensional that I could see through the holes. It worked! Also added some Gilded Gems to finish it off.
Stamps: Shaded Summer
Ink: Versamark
Paper: Very Vanilla, Gold Metallic, Gold Foil, Simply Elegant designer series paper
Other: Summer Shadows dies, Label Me Lovely punch, Gilded embossing powder (Brutus Monroe), Gold 1/4" Shimmer Ribbon, Scalloped Lace Trim, Vanilla Baker's Twine, Metallic Pearls, Gilded Gems
Lastly, I made a 5" x 5" card. This was pretty simple, but I wanted to use the die that cuts the entire bunch of flowers.
Paper measurements:
- Cinnamon Cider: 5" x 10", scored and folded in half at 5"
- Cinnamon Cider: 4 3/4" x 4 3/4", embossed with the Brick & Mortar folder
- Just Jade: 4 1/4" x 4 1/4"
- Sweet Symmetry Designer series paper (also 15% off through 7/31!): 4" x 4"
- Very Vanilla: scrap to stamp flower bunch and greeting
I attached all my layers first - pop the Just Jade layer up with Stampin' Dimensionals.
Then I stamped the flower bunch in Cinnamon Cider, and die cut it. That is popped up with Stampin' Dimensionals as well.
Greeting strip was punched with the Banners Pick a Punch, and glued down flat.
I finished the card with some new gems - the 2020-2022 In Color Square Gems. They are faceted and really a great accessory!
I hope you enjoyed my sneak peek at the Summer Shadows dies. There are a lot of other amazing products in the Sale-a-Bration catalog, which goes live on August 3rd. I'm looking forward to sharing more great ideas for these freebies with you!
