Pearlescent Paper Galaxy!

If you caught my video from Thursday, that's where I demonstrated this new-to-me technique with Pearlescent Paper (if you prefer learning by video, check that out).  I used different colors for that card, but used the same Stellar Birthday.  So cute!!!

This technique really is the COOLEST thing since sliced bread!

Do you see all the pearly-goodness on this background?  This technique is very similar to the currently-popular Vellum & Stampin' Blends with Alcohol technique.

Here's how you make this fun background:

1.  Select your Stampin' Blends markers.  I suggest using the DARKs.  For this galaxy background, I used Night of Navy, Misty Moonlight, Magenta Madness, Granny Apple Green, and Daffodil Delight.  All DARK.

2.  Scribble Stampin' Blends markers ALL OVER a piece of Pearlescent Paper.

3.  Spray ALL OVER liberally with 91% Isopropryl alcohol.  Let it sit for 20-30 seconds.  You'll see the "pearly" goodness start to bead up and float around.

4.   Blow around with either a blowie tool like I've got, or a straw.  The paper wants to curl, because of all the wet alcohol, so I kept blowing the run-off back up onto the card.

5.  Spray more alcohol and blow, until you get it the way you want.

6.  Set them off to dry.  You can stamp on them afterwards, but the ink takes a long time to dry, AND it seems like it dries lighter than you would expect.  That's because of the "pearly" coating.

Once I had all my background pieces, I stamped some astronauts and colored them in with more Stampin' Blends.  Hand-cut them, and run the Clear Wink of Stella all over their uniforms.

Add the greetings, and finish off with some Blue Adhesive-backed Gems.  I thought the blue ones would look more like stars!

This Pearlescent Paper has really surprised me.  It's not just for cutting and embossing.  I've seen plenty of folks ink blending color on it and that's cool...but this alcohol business is the best technique I've seen with it yet!

Supplies you'll need to create these (Stampin' Up, unless otherwise noted.  Items may be retired.):

Stamps:  Stellar Birthday
Ink: Night of Navy, Midnight (Catherine Pooler)
Paper:  Pearlescent
Other:  Double Oval punch, Stampin' Blends markers (your choice), Clear Wink of Stella marker, Blue Adhesive-backed Gems, 91% Isopropryl alcohol, blowie tool

Thanks for visiting, and Happy stamping!
