Love It, Chop It Inspired

Today's post is inspired by the idea of Love It, Chop It.  We LOVE our pretty papers, and need to CHOP THEM UP.  I started with (3) pieces of designer series paper - 6" x 6" in this case.  These pieces are from the Playing with Patterns pack.

Cut them ALL the same way.  First, cut a 4' piece off, so you've got a 4" x 6" piece, and a 2" x 6" piece.  Then cut the 4" x 6" piece down to 4" x 5 1/4".  Save those little strips, because we'll flip them over and use them.  The 2" x 6" pieces can be cut down to 2" x 5 1/4", or 2" x 5 1/2" - depending on how many cards you want to get out of these pieces.

Then I mounted the designers series papers on to card bases, using the little strips as accents.

Once I had these base pieces done, I went through my stamps, looking for something that I liked.  For this first go at this, I wasn't concerned about using the same stamp set for all of them, or having them all look related.  Anything goes!

This is what I ended up with - I'll give you more info about each one, starting in the top left corner and working my way around.  I really LOVE these!

With the Crushed Curry and Night of Navy dominating this card, I wanted images that were a little bit larger.  These leaves were perfect!  I also wanted to keep as much color on this card as I could - so instead of stamping Night of Navy and Crushed Curry on White card stock...I didn't want that much white - I instead chose to emboss the images in white, ON the colored card stocks.  I like this look much better.

Then I also white-embossed the greeting, and punched it out.  Finished with some navy rhinestones and a bit of corduroy trim that I had left over.
Stamps:  Loyal Leaves
Ink:  Versamark
Paper:  Crushed Curry, Night of Navy, Playing with Patterns designer series papers
Other:  Everyday Label punch, White embossing powder, Holiday Rhinestones, Night of Navy Corduroy trim

Next up, I thought these stripes would go nicely with some birthday balloons.  Balloon Bouquet punch to the rescue!  Punch balloons in the same colors from the paper - Coastal Cabana, Crushed Curry, Calypso Coral, and Night of Navy. All of the balloons are popped up with Stampin' Dimensionals.

The greeting is from an old clown set that I used on another card.  Add strings (Silver/White Baker's Twine) to the balloons, and some Coastal Cabana/Granny Apple Green reversible ribbon across the card. Finished with some rhinestones.

Stamps:  Party Time
Ink:  Coastal Cabana
Paper:  Coastal Cabana, Calypso Coral, Crushed Curry, Night of Navy, Playing with Patterns designer series papers
Other:  Balloon Bouquet punch, Triple Banner punch, Rhinestones, White/Silver Baker's Twine

The next card was actually the toughest for me, and I made it last.  Calypso Coral and Purple Posy were the dominant colors, and I had a hard time thinking of what would go with it.  I didn't want to do flowers, because I didn't want to add any other colors.  Butterflies were my final answer!

Since I still had the white embossing powder out, I embossed these butterflies and punched them out.  Then I die-cut the ovals, and embossed the Purple Posy layer with the country Floral embossing folder.  It's retired, but still one of my favs.

Calypso Coral ribbon, and some pearls finish this one off.

Stamps: Butterfly Gala
Ink:  Versamark, Basic Grey
Paper:  Calypso Coral, Purple Posy, White, Playing with Patterns designer series paper
Other:  Layering Ovals dies, Country Floral embossing folder, Butterfly Duet punch, Calypso Coral ribbon, Basic Pearls

Finally, the piece d' resistence!  I spent the most time on the clown card.  Those dots in the papers really pushed me to this clown, which I had to dig out of my retired stamps.  I felt like he was in my stash just for this card!

A Night of Navy card base with the designer series papers.  I colored the clown in using ALL of the colors in those papers - Calypso Coral, Crushed Curry, Coastal Cabana, Purple Posy, Blushing Bride, Night of Navy, and Seaside Spray.  The clown and the cake are colored with regular markers, and hand-cut.  Then comes the glitter.  So much glitter!!!  :)

To carry through on the glitter - I used some of the Snowflake Splendor ribbon.  It's beautiful - shimmery and goes perfectly with a glittery project.  Clown and cake are both popped up with a LOT of dimensionals.  Finished it with some sparkly "goosebumps" (from Queen & Co.).

Stamps:  Party Time
Ink:  Midnight (Catherine Pooler), Night of Navy
Paper:  Night of Navy, White, Playing with Pattners designer series paper
Other:  Dazzling Diamonds glitter, markers, Snowflake Splendor ribbon, Iridescent Goosebumps (Queen & Company)

SO you may have counted my paper strips and figured out that I do have one 2" x 6" strip of the patterned paper left.  Sadly, I did not make a card with it.  BUT - just know that you could get another card out of this if you're really trying.  :)

Tomorrow, I'll share another set of cards that I made using this same paper cutting idea and the Whale of a Time  designer series paper - ALONG WITH cards that my stamp club friends made with their own papers!  Lots of great ideas!
