Valentine Box and Matching Card

Anyone else last minute on a Valentine treat for your #1 person?  I went to Costco earlier and got a container of some Turtle candies for hubby.  Came home and made this box to hold it - and I'm going to give you measurements and step-by-step instructions on how to make one yourself!

I based the measurements on the plastic container that I needed to hold.  Finished box is 7 1/2" x 7 1/2" x 2 1/4" tall.

For the box you will need:

(1) piece card stock, 12" x 12" for the BOX TOP - I used Real Red.

(1) piece of card stock 11 7/8" x 11 7/8". for the BOTTOM - I used Sahara Sand.

(1) piece of coordinating card stock, 6 1/2" x 6 1/2".  I used Whisper White.

(1) piece of coordinating designer series paper, 6 3/8" x 6 3/8".  I used a piece from last year's Valentine paper...I can't even remember the name of it.

1.  Score both the Real Red and Sahara Sand pieces at 2 1/4" on EVERY side.   Since the bottom is a wee bit smaller, that's what will make the lid fit.

2.  Cut the flaps as shown here.  The middle section at the top and bottom is what will be the side of the box, so that cut is straight, on the score mark.  Cut in an angle to make the flap.

Closer picture of the cut you need to make - this is the bottom left corner.

3.  Fold all score marks, and adhere flaps with either glue or Red-line tape (something STURDY).

4.   Put your gift/treat in the box bottom.  I don't usually bother with tissue paper, but that's your call.

5.  Add a punch on two sides of the Real Red, for grips so you can pull the lid up and off the bottom.

6.  Build your center piece for the top of your box.  I used some old heart dies to cut Whisper White (smaller), and vellum (larger).  Ran the vellum through with an embossing folder.  Glued the white heart to the back side of the vellum.

7.  Front side has some die-cut words glued on.

8.  Layer your designer series paper and coordinating card stock to the top of the box, and attach this centerpiece with Stampin' Dimensionals.

Here it is again, with the top view of the box:

I made a matching card with some of the leftover designer series paper, and some Valentine's Mini Strips (from Taylored Expressions), embossed in white on Real Red and Melon Mambo card stock.

Finished the card with some small punched hearts (3 different foil papers - Silver, Red, Lovely Lipstick) popped up.

I hope you are inspired to make a box for something!  They're really not that hard, and I love to make custom boxes.
