Valentine with Holiday papers

When I sat down to create this card for my stamp club group, I wanted to find a non-traditional Valentine-y paper to go with it...to think outside of the normal pink hearts patterned paper.  I wanted something with RED, so I turned to my Christmas papers, specifically Under the Mistletoe.  Look at these great patterns, that are not ONLY for Christmas!  I see two plaids and a red and green speckles that work.   Come to think of it - the plaid in the top-left corner here will be great for some St. Patrick's Day cards.  SWEET!

 

Did you also notice that I used the new Stitched Rectangle dies?  The card base is Crumb Cake, and then I also cut a 5 1/4" x 4" layer of Crumb Cake.  Tone-on-tone.  I like it a lot!  Then I cut a rectangle out of the Crumb Cake layer, so that I could put the plaid paper behind it.  The plaid is taped down directly on the card base, and then the Crumb Cake layer is popped up with dimensionals.

I stamped and cut out the hearts using the Meant to Be bundle, with Real Red ink on Real Red card stock.  I also used the Sprig punch, and some Garden Green card stock to add some "leaves and vines" behind the hearts.  I attached all of the hearts with a combination of glue dots, liquid glue, mono-adhesive tape, and Stampin' Dimensionals...whatever it took.  :)  

I finished the card off with some Heart Epoxy Droplets (they don't show up that well in the picture) and a wee little greeting made on a 3/8" strip of Whisper White and the Thoughtful Banners stamp set.  I hand-cut that banner end.

I hope I've encouraged (or reminded) you to look at ALL of your patterned papers for your projects.  You may find just what you need in a pile you would not have considered.
