Happy Monday! Only ONE week until Christmas! I'm almost ready. I think I've made all my purchases...just need to check that again, get everything wrapped, get the house cleaned up some, and make the grocery list. But for now, my 25 Days of Christmas 2017 ideas challenge continues!
Today I'm sharing with you a home decor item that I really enjoyed making, although my plans changed mid-way through making it. It's a 5x7 frame jazzed up with a holiday scene.
I sketched this out, intending to make it with colors - Cherry Cobbler, Garden Green, Early Espresso...traditional Christmas colors. When I was deciding on the background paper piece, my eye kept going to the metallic snowflakes...so Plan B! ALL Metallics! I got out every piece of metallic foil that I have and used it. Gold, Silver, Copper, and Champagne. I love them all together!
Flash ON the camera -
Flash off -
I don't know why it looks like two completely different things...but believe me, in real life it is beautiful! The frame color is actually a shabby-chic-looking-vintage-shiny-milky-vanilla-ish- flash OFF photo shows the actual frame color better.
I did tone-on-tone embossing for the gold (sleigh), silver (2 trees and wreath), copper (reindeer). I didn't have champagne embossing powder, so the third tree (far right) is white embossing powder on champage foil Still looks great.
To finish it off, I covered the bottom 1/5 or so of the paper with Crystal Effects (you could use liquid glue), Silver Glass Glitter (really chunky glitter, retired). That is my "snow".
All of the cut out pieces are popped up with one or two layers of dimensionals. The glass that came in this frame is behind everything, in the back, to keep it sturdy. I mounted the snowflake designer paper on a piece of Crumb Cake. The glass is behind that. With all this dimension, a shadow box would have been a good idea but I didn't have one. I like making framed art pieces that have the dimensional stuff sticking out like this though.
