Rocker Cards! These are so cute and easy to make!

Welcome friends!

Have you ever heard of a Rocker card???  It's a card that rocks back and forth.  So cool!!!  It's all about using circles for the card base, and then when you add all your images/focal points/doo-dads...you want the weight to be distributed evenly.  Balanced.   That's it!  Now it's just a matter of choosing colors, papers, images for maximum enjoyment!

On this past Thursday's Live, I was only able to get the Rainbows and Otters cards finished before I ran out of gas.  :)  I made the Bird card last night, and then I've also got some MORE samples to share later in this post.

Just a reminder that I am Live on-line every Thursday at 8:00pm ET.  I am streaming to BOTH YouTube and Facebook simultaneously.

If you are not able to catch me live, you can watch over on YouTube.  If the picture does not appear below, you can click HERE to get to it on YouTube.

Like I said earlier, Rocker cards are all based on circles.  I used my old Creative Memories circle cutter to get my circles.  The dies that I have from Stampin' Up just are not big enough.  Use whatever you have to make concentric circles.  I'm providing my measurements below, but yours can be as big or small as you'd like!

I used mostly Sale-a-Bration stamps and papers for all of the Rocker cards from Thursday night.  You only have about 2 more weeks to get your Sale-a-Bration items free with your qualifying purchase!

Let's start with the first project.  I started by folding my Magenta Madness card base circle in half, and really creasing it down nice and firm with my teflon bone folder.  Then fold and press the designer series paper layer.  Glue those together, and that's your card base!  You really do want two layers here.  I find that glueing them together makes the base sturdier, and it won't slide apart and end up flat.

After creating the card base, it's just a matter of making a main layer to sit UP on your card front, and then add stamped images, punches, doo-dads...whatever you want.   I used circles for all of my layers, but you do not have to!  The only thing that HAS to be circles is the card base.  I went with a Mango Melody circle, followed by a Pool Party circle.  I embossed the Pool Party circle with the Gingham folder.  On to decorating...

Rainbows!!!  I do not have any rainbow stamp set, so I cut a few out of the Sunshine & Rainbows Designer Series paper.  I also hand-cut the clouds out of tha same paper pack.  Stamp the car from Driving By on Shimmery White cardstock, color it in, and hand-cut.

I embossed the greeting in White on Granny Apple Green, and then hand-cut that.  Now it's just a matter of placement, and adding doo-dads!  I end up adding rhinestones or things as needed, to balance the weight of the card.

Paper measurements for ALL of my Rocker cards (I won't list these measurements with every sample, they really are exactly the same.):
  • Card base: 5 3/8" circle
  • Card Base DSP layer:  5 1/8" circle
  • Main layer:  3 7/8" circle
  • Embossed layer:  3 3/8" circle

FINISHED CARD SIZE is 5" tall x 5 1/2" wide.  I would suggest using a 5" x 7" envelope, or you could make your own.  Reminder that square envelopes cost more postage.

I finished with the Iridescent Rhinestones.

Stamps:  Special Moments, Driving By
Ink:  Midnight (Catherine Pooler), Versamark
Paper:  Magenta Madness, Mango Melody, Pool Party, Granny Apple Green, Shimmery White, Sunshine & Rainbows designer series papers
Other:  Circle cutters (Creative memories), Gingham embossing folder, white embossing powder, Clear Wink of Stella, Stampin' Blends markers (Daffodil Delight, Coastal Cabana, Smoky Slate, Basic Black), Iridescent Rhinestones

Next project is an Otter Rocker card!  I've had these adorable Otters for over a month and have not used them before making this card.  They're so cute!!!

This time, I'm using the Simply Marbelous papers and the Awesome Otters - again...both are Sale-a-Bration items.  Colors for this card are Coastal Cabana, and Pool Party.

I added even more circles with the greeting.

I used the Bark embossing folder this time, because I think it looks like water with ripples.

After stamping the otters on Shimmery White card stock, I colored in with the new Natural Tones and Coastal Cabana Stampin' Blends.  Hand-cut the otters, and then run Clear Wink of Stella all over them.  They're cute!!!

I went a LITTLE overboard with the doo-dads on this one.  I was really trying to get it balanced, and never did get it exactly right.  That's okay!

Stamps:  Awesome Otters
Ink:  Midnight (Catherine Pooler), Versamark
Paper:  Coastal Cabana, Pool Party, Basic White, Shimmery White, Simply Marbelous designer series papers
Other:  Circle cutters (Creative Memories), Bark embossing folder, White embossing powder, Playing with Patterns Resin Dots, Iridescent Rhinestones, Clear Wink of Stella marker

I ran out of time/gas in my video, so I did not get to make this card Live.  For this bird Rocker card, I wanted to show some more ways to use the Natural Tones Stampin' Blends, and the All Together papers (that are available only while supplies last now, or until May 2nd!)

My main card base is Misty Moonlight, then I added a circle of the All Together papers that I colored with one of the Natural Tones Blends.  I don't remember which shade it was....it's kind of a medium-light shade.

Then my circle layers are Balmy Blue, followed by Misty Moonlight embossed with the Hive folder.  Then I added one of the Heart & Home Doilies.  I first embossed the Misty Moonlight doily with the Bark folder, but didn't like that it made the Hive embossed layer get a little bit lost.  So I flipped the doily over and scribbled some of the Natural Tones Stampin' Blends across it.  Again, I don't know which color I used.  I just wanted it to be brown-ish.

Stamp the bird and some flowers on Shimmery White, and then color in with Stampin' Blends.   Again, I used the new Natural Tones to get the bird all those shades of brown, then used Misty Moonlight, and Balmy Blue for the flowers.  Hand-cut all of those bits, and attach.

I finished this one off with some Square In Color Gems, along with some Iridescent Rhinestones.

Stamps:  Hello Friend, Special Moments
Ink:  Misty Moonlight, Onyx Versafine
Paper:  Misty Moonlight, Balmy Blue, Shimmery White, All Together Designer Series paper
Other:  Circle cutters (Creative Memories), Heart & Home Doilies, 2020-2022 In Color Square Gems, Iridescent Rhinestones

So what do you think about Rocker Cards???  FUN, right???    How about some MORE ideas!  These were made by some of my stamping friends.  We all got together on Zoom a few weeks back, and worked on our own.

Look at all of these great ones that Peggy made!

More from Peggy - I really love that Halloween card!

Made by Cindy M - SEW sweet!

These were my first Rocker cards.  I already mailed the Valentine off.

I hope I've given you some inspiration to try your own Rocker cards!

  1. What size envelope do these take?

  2. I'm glad I still had one of these cards laying around! I should have put the card measurements in the blog post, so I will fix that now. Card measures 5" tall x 5 1/2" wide, so a 5"x7" envelope would work. You could also make a custom envelope, but be careful about having to pay extra postage if it ends up square. Thanks for asking!
