Sending Cheer Projects - not just Christmas!

Happy Sunday Crafty Friends!

I'm tired from our little day trip to NYC yesterday, but I'm happy to get this blog post up for you all.  Short version of NYC trip:  way too many people, too many stairs for my knees, we're not good with maps, subways smell like pee, and going on a weekend was probably the worst time to go.   :)  

I used the Sending Cheer bundle this past Thursday night.  My goal was to give you some different ideas - not all Christmas, since there are plenty of those out there!

Even though I was trying for non-Christmas ideas, I just HAD to start off with the Gingerbread cookie and make a wobble card!  Wobble cards are SO fun.  These are the ones that I purchased from Amazon a couple of years ago:  https://amzn.to/47FR21o  I've also seen smaller packs in Joann's and sometimes Michael's.

I started off by ink-blending some Crumb Cake in the center of this Crumb Cake panel.  Just to give it a landing spot.  Stamp and die-cut your gingerbread cookie,   Then I guestimated where I would attach Ginger and stamped some of the little stars in the set, just for accents.

Attach Ginger with a wobble, and add the greeting.

Paper measurements:

• Pecan Pie:  5 1/2" x 8 1/2”, scored and folded in half at 4 1/4”
• Basic White:  4" x 5 1/4", for inside of card
• Crumb Cake:  4" x 5 1/4"
• Basic White:  scraps to stamp and cut out gingerbread and greeting

I added a few Speckled Dots - which are apparently no longer available now.  :(

Ink:  Pecan Pie, Crumb Cake, Sweet Sorbet

Paper:  Pecan Pie, Crumb Cake, Basic White

Other:  Speckled Dots, Wobble (see link above for where I got mine)

The purpose of my second card was to show you how to make a background using one of the stamps (the present).  I used Tahitian Tide to make my background.  Stamped full strength, then turn the stamp around and stamp again (second generation).  Stamp your images like a puzzle to fill the whole background.  This could be really effective with some bolder color choices...not just the monotone that I did here.  Maybe red and black?  Blue and gold?  Pink and green?  Orange and blue?  Have fun with this idea!

After I made my background, I stamped a few snowflakes on top using Starry Sky ink.

I also showed how to selectively ink up a stamp to get a partial image.  The "warm" from this greeting is actually from Ringed with Nature "warmth & love".  Just be very careful inking up your stamp.

Paper measurements:

• Tahitian Tide:  5 1/2” x 8 1/2”, scored and folded in half at 4 1/4"
• Basic White:  4” x 5 1/4", for inside of card
• Starry Sky:  4" x 5 1/4"
• Basic White:  3 13/16" x 5 1/16"
• Starry Sky/Basic White:  scraps to stamp/cut out greeting

I added some Glitter Sequins to finish off.  Once again - these are also on the Last Chance list, so get some while you can, if you want them!

Stamps:  Sending Cheer, More Wishes, Ringed with Nature

Ink:  Tahitian Tide, Starry Sky

Paper:  Tahitian Tide, Starry Sky, Basic White

Other:  Glittered Sequins, Postage stamp punch (retired)

The last thing I made is a Joy Fold Card Valentine.  Too early?  Probably!  But, it's a different idea with this bundle.  I used magnets to close this card.  These are the ones that I use all the time.  https://amzn.to/4a6XxMo  When I bought them, this 200-pack was the best deal.  

Designer series paper in the background is from the Stargazing pack!  It had the colors that I wanted, so why not use it?

I think the best idea with this card was inking up the "LOVE" with two colors.  Good thing these are photopolymer stamps, so you can see through.  I started off inking the top half of the stamp with Bubble Bath ink.  Then carefully ink the bottom half with Berry Burst.  Use an ink blending brush to tap the middle, so it softens up that ink and blends the colors a little bit.  Give it a try - always ink up your lightest ink color FIRST.  Less risk of contaminating your ink pads this way.

Paper measurements:

• Berry Burst:  4 1/4” x 8 1/4”, scored at 5 1/2"  The 8 1/4 is intentional.  I normally cut my Joy Fold cards differently, but I wasn't paying attention and this is what I ended up with.  Finished size is still 4 1/4" x 5 1/2".
• Stargazing Designer Series paper:  4" x 5 1/4"
• Berry Burst:  2 1/2" x 4", embossed with Basics #3 folder
• Berry Burst:  3" x 8"
• Basic White:  (2) 2 3/4" x 3 3/4"
• Berry Burst:  scrap to stamp and hand-cut love letter
• Bubble Bath:  scraps to die-cut little hearts

I did hit the little Bubble Bath hearts with Clear Wink of Stella...but you can't tell from the pictures.  Finish with a few Basic Rhinestones.

Craft Roulette Challenge #191 - A Winter Bird

I feel like I'm posting this EARLY for a change...not waiting until the last minute Thursday night.  :)  I had different ideas written down for this week's challenge, but I like how things changed and ended up.  This Winter Birdie Swag from Unity Stamp Co is so cute!

Just realized this is my 50th submission for Craft Roulette!

Now that I look at it - I should have dragged that greeting down some, to cover up where the branch just appears out of thin air.  Geez...!

Episode #191 parameters, and how I met them:

• Project:  Drop Down - snowflakes are dropping down

• Colors:  Supper Table - my mom had plenty of tablecloths with pink and blues in them.

• Element:  Season(s) - winter

• Random: Shiney - the rhinestones are shiny.

Stamp some random blue snowflakes, and then ink blend the edges with Crumb Cake.

Postage panel is popped up.  Greeting has some Fine Art ribbon behind it, and that's popped up.

I colored the bird and branch with Stampin' Blends.  Finish off with some Champagne Rhinestones

Santa Digis!

Have you ever used digitals in your paper crafting?  It's an entirely different rabbit hole that you can get lost in.  :)  And by get lost, I mean - find some REALLY cool images and papers that you must have.  

I'm no expert, but I have been using a few digital images/stamps, even patterned papers, here and there for a few years now.  I've used some jpgs, but mostly PDFs.  PDFs are pretty easy - you print out the file, and you get what you get.  No resizing or moving things around.  I like this - no experience required!  Mostly, I print a sheet of patterned paper, or a sheet of images to color in and create a card front with.

I mostly get digitals on etsy, but I'm sure Mr. Google can point you to plenty of choices.  I got this file from Scrapbooking With ME.  Printed out 3 or 4 full sheets on 32 lb. printer paper with my Brother  Laser printer.

I had to hand-cut all the santa images, then I layered them onto some Crumb Cake cardstock.  Ink blended the edges.

I did a couple of different backgrounds.  Used two different embossing folders, then decided to try out some Distress Oxide spray on one of them....meh....I need more practice with sprays.  Mounted all the embossed backgrounds onto Crumb Cake card bases, and ink blended all the edges.

Stamped that greeting, punched it out and inked those edges.   Popped up the Santa panels and greetings.

Finished off with different gems and glittery bits.

Stamps:  Glimmering Greetings (Unity Stamp Co)

Ink:   Crumb Cake, Cherry Cobbler

Paper:  Crumb Cake, Cherry Cobbler

Other:  Snowflake 3-D folder (Sizzix), Tufted embossing folder, 2" circle punch, gems/sequins, Crochet trim

I printed another file that I'll work on next - it's got colorful trees and a few snowmen!  Digitals are definitely different to work with, compared to stamping everything.  You can really get some beautifully detailed images - that I could personally never color that well.

Craft Roulette Challenge #190

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!  I hope you're enjoying your day so far.  I'm in between cleaning toilets and vacuuming, so I thought I'd share my Craft Roulette challenge for this week.

I used my friend Sue's idea for a Slit Z-fold card this week.  Check out her video here, to see how to make this.  Skip through to about the 8:30 mark to get down to the card making part.

• Element:  November - good month to get cozy with a book

• Random: 3-item cluster -  stack of 3 books

If you want more than that little scrap of Crumb Cake to write a message on, you can certainly add a bigger panel to the back of the card, maybe behind the stack of books paper.

The bird panel is popped up with Dimensionals.  

You can see how the card folds up from this picture.  Fits in a medium envelope!

Finished off with some Rustic Metallic Dots.

Beary Christmas Memories & More Mini Albums Tutorial

Good morning?!  I can't believe t's already after midnight, and I really wanted to get this blog post finished about 6 hours ago when I got home. :(  It's been a busy, but fun, weekend.   Now let's think back to this past Thursday...I made a really CUTE Mini Album using the Beary Christmas Memories & More Card pack AND the Cards & Envelopes pack.  I actually made two of them using these products.  The red one was my prototype and is oriented portrait-style.  I made the blue one live, and it is done in a landscape orientation.  I just wanted to try both styles.

I did come up with these mini books and measurements on my own, so if something is wrong - it's entirely my fault.  :)  My stroke of brilliance was to use the greeting cards from this kit to create the pocket pages for these albums.  Works out great!!!  I was also able to incorporate a U-Hinge system that I learned from Club Scrap.  It's a really easy hinge and binding system to use.  

Each album has four pages, or signatures.  I made two different styles for the fronts of the pages, and all of the backs are the same (gusseted pocket).

I made this Balmy Blue mini album during my live video.  You can see - I didn't have time to finish the cover, and frankly...I won't do that until I figure out which pictures I'm going to put in it anyway.  It will definitely be a winter or Christmas theme album.  Leaning towards winter fun.  Notice that I've also used cardstock to cover the spine, and then designer series paper to wrap the rest of the front and back covers.  This was something new I wanted to try, and I really like it.

I'm going to show you some of the different pages, and give you the chipboard and paper measurements for the base album and pages.  I won't go into any layering details (i.e. when I added an embossed layer to pockets).   

Finished size for BOTH albums is 4 3/4" x 6 3/4" x 1 1/4". 

Cutting guide for Blue Mini Album (Landscape orientation):

• Chipboard/Cover pieces:  (2) 4 3/4" x 6 3/4",  (1) 1 1/4" x 4 3/4"
• Adhesive Sheets to put on chipboard:  (2) 4 3/4" x 6 3/4",  (1) 1 1/4" x 4 3/4"
• Cover Wrap:  (1) 3 1/2" x 6 3/4" Balmy Blue card stock, (2) 6" x 6 3/4" Balmy Blue DSP
• Inside Covers:  Balmy Blue cardstock for all - (1) 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" for middle/spine, (2) 4 1/2" x 6 1/2" for inside front/back covers
• U-Hinges:  (2) 1 1/4" x 4 1/2" Balmy Blue.  On the 1 1/4" side, score at 1/2" from each end.
• Front of page Flip-Outs:  (2) 4" x 5 1/2", scored at 5"
• Back of page pockets:  (4) 2 1/2" x 7 1/8", scored at 1/2" on two short sides and one long side to make gusseted pocket.  I made (2) in Misty Moonlight, and (2) in Balmy Blue.

This page style has a flip out with magnetic closure.  Magnet is underneath this embossed layer. You have a 1/2" hinge to attach to the front of the page.  Pages 1 & 3 are this style.

You can obviously see where I put the magnet on this, but it will get covered up with a picture or ephemera when I fill this album.

Back of page shows that each page is a pocket, made out of the Memories & More card.  See the notch I made for a thumb pull.  Add an insert and pull tab.  Gusseted pocket shown on bottom of this page.  All of the back sides are all the same - gusseted pocket.

This is the second style of page front.  I took one of the 4" x 6" Memories & More Cards from the card pack, and glued it onto the front of the page on 3 sides...to make another pocket or tuck space.  I did not add gussets so it's a pretty tight pocket.  Pages 2 & 4 are this style.

This just shows the back of another pocket - they're all the same.  Notice here that I'm moving the punched out thumb pull area, and tab on the insert.

Now let's look at my prototype and I'll give the measurements.  I did a little more decorating on this one, and added a cover layer.

Cutting guide for Red Mini Album (Portrait orientation):

• Chipboard/Cover pieces:  (2) 4 3/4" x 6 3/4",  (1) 1 1/4" x 6 3/4"
• Adhesive Sheets to put on chipboard:  (2) 4 3/4" x 6 3/4",  (1) 1 1/4" x 6 3/4"
• Cover Wrap:  (1) 3 1/2" x 8 3/4" Real Red card stock, (2) 5" x 8 3/4" Red stripes DSP
• Inside Covers:  Real Red cardstock for all - (1) 2 1/2" x 6 1/2" for middle/spine, (2) 4 1/2" x 6 1/2" for inside front/back covers
• U-Hinges:  (2) 1 1/4" x 6 1/4" Real Red.  On the 1 1/4" side, score at 1/2" from each end.
• Front of page Flips (up and down):  (4) 3 1/4" x 4 3/4" Real Red, scored on long side at 4 1/4"
• Back of page pockets:  (4) 2 3/4" 4 5/8", scored at 1/4" on two short sides and one long side to make gusseted pocket.  Why did I score at 1/4" on this one, and 1/2" on the blue one???? Because this red one was my prototype, and I thought 1/4" would be fine.  It's a little small to work with.

This page style has a top and bottom flip with magnetic closures.  Make the flips, attach your magnets, and then add your choice of 3" x 4" cards from the Memories & More Card pack.  Pages 1 & 3 are this style.

Flips show the front of the page where you can still add pictures/ephemera/journaling.

Back of the first page shows the gusseted pocket at the bottom.  Also see the notch at the top of the page pocket and an insert.  You also see the other style of page fronts.  Take a 4" x 6" card from the Memories & More card pack and glue it to the front of the page on 3 sides...leaving a tuck space/pocket for more things.  In this red album, I made the openings on the right side.

Just a look at the second page with the top/bottom flips.  I used different cards.

I didn’t add any extra rhinestones or bling - there’s already so much INSIDE the shakers…but you could add more if you wanted to.

Paper:  Balmy Blue, Misty Moonlight, Real Red, Old Olive, Misty Moonlight, Beary Christmas Memories & More Card Pack, Beary Christmas Memories & More Cards & Envelopes

Other:  Exposed Brick & Distressed Tile embossing folders, Round Tab punch, 1" circle punch, adhesive sheets, chipboard, magnets 

I hope you find these measurements useful, and I really encourage you to give it a try if you're at all interested in making your own mini books.  I find it to be a lot of fun, and creatively rewarding.

Shining Brightly Holiday Cards

Happy Veteran's Day Friends!

Today I'm sharing the cards that I made Thursday night.  My focus was on the Shining Brightly Designer series papers and Navy/Gold Glittered ribbon.  I had planned for this to be a Stamp-a-Stack class, but alas - inventory unavailability got me again.  :(  You can still copy my card designs with your own materials - maybe even change up the papers and colors!  I used four different stamps, and couple of die sets.

First up is a set of "stained glass angel" cards.  I used the Countryside Corners dies to cut out the frame.  Emboss the image on vellum in GOLD, then color on the back side with markers for the stained glass effect.

The one on the left was my prototype, and the one on the right is the one I made live.  Lighter vs darker.  Which do you like better?

Paper measurements:

• Very Vanilla Thick:  5 1/2" x 8 1/2”, scored and folded in half at 4 1/4”
• Very Vanilla:  4" x 5 1/4"
• Shining Brightly Designer Series Paper: 3 7/8" x 5 1/8"
• Vellum (cardstock):  3 3/4" x 5"
• Very Vanilla:  1" x 4"

I didn't add any doo-dads to this one, because that paper looks embellished already.  I did add Clear Wink of Stella to the angel's wings.

My second card might be my favorite from this batch because they're just so striking with all those gold trees on the Night of Navy back drop.  The designer series paper creates the perfect background for this card.  Die cut some gold glitter trees, and emboss a greeting to pop up. 

Paper measurements:

• Night of Navy:  5 1/2” x 8 1/2”, scored and folded in half at 4 1/4"
• Very Vanilla:  4” x 5 1/4", for inside of card
• Night of Navy:  4" x 5 1/4"
• Shining Brightly Designer Series Paper:  3 7/8" x 5 1/8"
• Gold Glitter paper:  scraps to die-cut trees
• Night of Navy:  scraps to stamp/emboss/hand-cut greeting

I added a couple of Sparkle Gems, but they get kind of lost on that background...so maybe don't bother.  Star Trinkets would have been perfect, if they hadn't completely run out of inventory.

Stamps:  Merry Christmas to All (retired)

Ink:  Versamark

Paper:  Night of Navy, Very Vanilla, Gold Glitter, Shining Brightly Designer Series paper

Other:  Navy & Gold 3/8" Glittered ribbon, Sparkle Gems

The third set of cards is done two ways.  My prototype is the one on the left - navy vase, vanilla layer.  I decided to make the one on the right live and have everything opposite...so vanilla base, navy layer.  Even placed the rectangles of DSP opposite.

Paper measurements:

• Night of Navy/Very Vanilla Thick:  5 1/2” x 8 1/2”, scored and folded in half at 4 1/4”
• Basic White:  4” x 5 1/4”, for inside of card (only needed in the Navy card)
• Very Vanilla/Night of Navy:  4" x 5 1/4"
• Very Vanilla/Night of Navy:  3 3/4" x 5"
• Shining Brightly Designer Series Paper:  (4) 1 7/8" x 2 1/2" - you want 2 navy and 2 vanilla prints
• Night of Navy/Very Vanilla:  scraps to punch out for greeting

Gold emboss the greeting, no matter which color you use.  Add a swoop of Navy/Gold Glittered ribbon to the card front before you pop your greeting on top.  I think I did add some gems to the card on the right - but again, they kind of get lost in that beautiful paper.

Stamps:  Throughout the Year

Ink:   Versamark

Paper:  Night of Navy, Very Vanilla (thick and regular), Shining Brightly Designer Series paper

Other:  Decorative punch, 2" circle punch, Navy & Gold 3/8" Glittered organdy ribbon, Metallics embossing powders (gold)

The last set of cards was also done two ways.  My prototype is the one on the top done in Very Vanilla.  Bottom card is the one I made live in Night of Navy.  These are Floating Cards...VERY COOL if you haven't seen this before.  Watch the video.  You need a piece of acetate or transparency to glue the little strips of DSP on, then use Foam Adhesive Strips to pop that acetate layer up on your card front.  It's really cool - but does not picture well

• Very Vanilla (Thick)/Night of Navy:  5 1/2” x 8 1/2”, scored and folded in half at 4 1/4”
• Basic White:  4” x 5 1/4”, for inside of card (only needed in the Navy card)
• Night of Navy/Very Vanilla:  4" x 5 1/4"
• Acetate/Transparency sheet:  3 3/4" x 5"
• Shining Brightly Designer Series Paper:  3/8" strips from 2 different patterns
• Gold Foil:  scraps to die-cut words and deer for the Navy card.
• Very Vanilla/Night of Navy/Gold Foil:  scraps to stamp greeting

The greetings (stamps and dies) are from a retired bundle called Merry Christmas to All.  I love the ability to mix and match stamps and die-cut words.  I die-cut the words out of Gold Foil AND the white cardboard backer that comes in most packs of designer series paper.  Glue those together, to make things a little sturdier.  Then glue to the card front.
