Shutter Cards AND a LARGER Gatefold Pizza Box

Good morning Crafty Friends!  I hope you had a great day Valentine's Day yesterday!  I was able to successfully donate blood again yesterday, so I'm very happy about that!  My iron has been too low the last few times, so I was pretty stoked that it was good enough.   Other than that, I'm off to another round in a pool tournament today, so wish me luck!  :)

So let's talk about what I made on Thursday night - Shutter Cards!  They're actually easier than you might think, and pretty cool to open up and see the shutters open.  I also shared a BIGGER version of my Gatefold Pizza Box!  I was so happy to figure out the larger size for that - still using 8 1/2" x 11" cardstock.  SWEET!

Just a reminder that I am generally Live on-line every Thursday at 8:00pm ET.  I stream to BOTH YouTube and Facebook simultaneously, but I recommend viewing on YouTube.

If you are not able to catch me live, you can watch over on YouTube.  If the picture does not appear below, you can click HERE to get to it.

First up is the Shutter card.  This is a neat fun fold card.  My only hang-up about this is the lack of room inside the card to write your greeting or message.  There's already so much cardstock and dsp involved, that it's pretty heavy.  I feel like adding a layer on the back to write something would put it over the 1 oz. limit.  BUT, it's a cool card regardless!

Let's look at my prototype first.  I used the Turtley Cute DSPs, and hand-cut a turtle, cake, and hat for the front.

Open up to see the shutters open, revealing your message inside.  It's not a very big area for that message.

I used the Perennial Lavender papers and an old butterfly stamp set for the version that I made live.  I love these papers, and I have a feeling they're on their way out with the end of this catalog.  We've had them for two years already, which is a year longer than most!

I used some of my new Springtime Fun dies for the front of the card.  That Gorgeous Grape circle is actually a detailed die with leaves cut out of it.  You'll see more with that soon.  One of my butterflies that I ink-blended with Highland Heather and Gorgeous Grape.

I added plenty of Purple Fine Shimer gems and Brass Butterflies to the front as well.

Let's look at the inside:

Paper Measurements:
  • Gorgeous Grape:  5 1/2" x 8 1/2, scored at 2 1/8" on one side.  Then fold the other side in to meet perfectly in the middle
  • Perennial Lavender DSP:  (4) 1 7/8" x 5 1/4".  I used two different pattern, 2 of each
  • Gorgeous Grape Bridge:  3" x 5 1/2"
  • Perennial Lavender DSP:  2 3/4" x 5 1/4"
  • Gorgeous Grape Shutters:  (2) 3 1/2" x 4", scored at 1/2" on the 4" side.   Find center point and draw pencil lines to corners opposite of the score line.  Cut that V out.
  • Crumb Cake:  2 3/8" circle to stamp "birthday wishes" for inside shutter
  • Gorgeous Grape/Basic White/Crumb Cake:  scraps to stamp/die cut butterflies/decorative front panel/greeting

You'll definitely need to watch the video to see how to attach the bridge, shutters, and inside greeting bit.

Stamps:  Sketched Butterflies bundle, Simply Said
Ink: Gorgeous Grape, Highland Heather, Midnight (Catherine Pooler)
Paper:  Gorgeous Grape, Crumb Cake, Basic White, Perennial Lavender Designer Series paper
Other:  Springtime Scenes dies, Purple Fine Shimmer Gems, Brass Butterflies, Clear Shimmer Brush

Next is a LARGER Gatefold Pizza Box.  My original version was 3" x 3" x 1 1/4".  I wanted to see how big I could go, still using 8 1/2" x 11" cardstock....finished size is 4 1/4" x 4 1/4" x 1 1/4".  Pretty cool!

I didn't add anything to the top of this box, because I'm not sure who it's for or when I'll need it.  I can add butterflies, or more flowers...at this point it's still pretty generic this way.   The point was just to show you the bigger version.

Paper Measurements:
  • Gorgeous Grape:  6 3/4" x 11".  Score according to the pattern below.
  • Perennial Lavender DSP:  (2) 1 7/8" x 4", for the top of the two gate doors
  • Perennial Lavender DSP:  (4) 1" x 4", to cover all four sides
Pattern:

I did use different patterns of the DSP on alternating sides, just to be different.

Stamps:  None
Ink:  None
Paper: Gorgeous Grape, Perennial Lavender Designer Series Paper
Other:  None

Join me this Thursday for an Easter Mini Album!  I think I'm going to use cereal box for the cover instead of chipboard....double it up, and it's just as good as a lightweight chipboard.

Thanks for visiting, and Happy stamping!
