Nutcracker Tags, Boxes, and Bags!

Happy Saturday Friends!  Today I'm sharing the projects that I made live on Thursday night.  Starting out with the Nutcracker Tag Kit, then I made a two-piece box, and a huge self-closing gift bag.  I always make Christmas gifties/treats for my pool teams, and these are SO roomy.  You could fit a lot of treats in them.

Unfortunately, the Nutcracker Tags are unavailable and I have no insight into their return.  Frankly, I would NOT expect them to restock this close to Christmas and the end of the year.  We'll see though.  If you did not get one of these adorable kits, you can certainly make ANY tag that you want.

Just a reminder that I am generally Live on-line every Thursday at 8:00pm ET.  I stream to BOTH YouTube and Facebook simultaneously, but I recommend viewing on YouTube.

If you are not able to catch me live, you can watch over on YouTube.  If the picture does not appear below, you can click HERE to get to it.

The Nutcracker Tags are all just about assembly.  Glue Dot and Mini Dimensional the pieces together.   I love the assembly-only kits like that.

In case you are wondering - what did I put in these boxes and bags?
  • Hot cocoa packet (single)
  • Lottery Scratcher card (folded up)
  • mini candy canes
  • Hershey's Miniature candies
  • Miniature bottle of booze (in the boxes), OR mug cake mix/icing  (in the bags)
You put whatever fits in the container and is suitable for the person you're gifting to.  You can fit a LOT in these boxes and bags!

The two-piece box is one of my favorite projects.  Well, any box project is a favorite.  :)  Two-piece means there is a top/lid and a bottom.   After I cut the two pieces of cardstock, I stamped trees all over the top/lid.  Shy Shamrock ink on Shy Shamrock cardstock.  I love a tone-on-tone background like this!

Side view.  I know it's hard to tell because I used the same color cardstock for the top and bottom, but can you see the bottom peeks out?  That's because the bottom piece is taller than the top/lid piece.  Normally, I would use a darker color cardstock for the bottom but it just wasn't possible this time.  I had nothing else that matched or coordinated close enough.

Here's the pattern, for a visual.  This is two patterns in one diagram.  Keep in mind that the bottom has to be a smidge (1/16") smaller in order for the lid to fit on nice and firm.  No wobbly lids!

Paper Measurements:
  • Shy Shamrock TOP/LID:  6 1/2" x 9 1/4", score at 1 1/2" on all 4 sides
  • Shy Shamrock BOTTOM:  7 7/16" x 10 3/16", score at 2" on all 4 sides
Then you'll just cut the tabs and assemble both pieces, according to the video.

I came up with the size for this box based on the largest item, which in my case was the Hot Cocoa packet.  It was about 3 1/4" x 6", so I started my pattern from there.

Tie your tag on with whatever ribbon you have.  I used some old Pool Party sheer ribbon for this box, but I don't have enough for all of them.  I'll have to use a hodge podge of ribbons.  Still CUTE!

Stamps:  Ornamental Christnas
Ink: Shy Shamrock
Paper:  Shy Shamrock
Other:  Nutcracker Tag Kit, Pool Party Sheer ribbon, treats

The next project is a Self-Closing Gift Bag.  I used a piece of Poppy Parade Two-Tone cardstock for this one, but you could also use Designer Series Paper.  Regular cardstock is too thick, and will not bend nicely for this style of gift bag.

Once I cut my two-tone cardstock, I again stamped trees all over.  Poppy Parade ink on the Poppy Parade two-tone cardstock.  (NOTE:  ink takes a little bit longer to dry on the two-tone cardstock.)  Make sure the pattern direction is going the right way.

Finished bag size is 7 3/4" tall.  Very roomy!

Paper Measurements:
  • Poppy Parade Two-Tone:  10 1/2" tall  x 12" wide
To score this correctly, start with the trees facing up, 12" side of your paper is at the top of your Scoreboard:
  • Score at 5 3/4", and 11 1/2".  Turn your paper to the RIGHT one turn.
  • Score at 2 3/4".  Turn your paper to the RIGHT one turn.
  • Score at 3 3/8", and 9 1/8" only going until you hit the score mark from the step above.
Pattern sketch so you get the idea.  You'll need to cut flaps and tabs according to the video for assembly.

Side-view shows how the top of this bag pinches together.  I punched holes and added ribbon, but you could also keep it closed with a paper clip or a binder clip.

Stamps:  Ornamental Christmas
Ink:  Poppy Parade
Paper: Poppy Parade Two-Tone Cardstock
Other:  Nutcracker Tag Kit, White Glittered Organdy Ribbon

Once I finish this post, I'm going back into my craft room to make the rest of these boxes and bags!

I've been researching Waterfall Cards for next week's projects.  I want to make something that will hold multiple gift cards, or something small/flat-ish like individually wrapped tea bags.  It will be a week before Christmas, and you might have a need for some last minute gifts that you can throw together quickly.  100% transparency - I have never made a waterfall card before!  In all of my 25+ years of stamping...never made one.  They always seemed too putzy for me, but I'm going to have it figured out by Thursday.  :)

Thanks for visiting, and Happy stamping!
