Irresistible Designs Papers - Irresistible Projects!

Happy Saturday Crafty Peeps!

I really enjoyed sharing some different ways to color the Irresistible Designs papers.  These papers are perfect for the Emboss Resist technique because the "emboss" part is already done for you!  Easy peasy!  All you have to do is add color, so I've shared some of my favorite ways to use these papers.  There are plenty of other methods to color these papers!

Just a reminder that I am generally Live on-line every Thursday at 8:00pm ET.  I stream to BOTH YouTube and Facebook simultaneously, but I recommend viewing on YouTube.

If you are not able to catch me live, you can watch over on YouTube.  If the picture does not appear below, you can click HERE to get to it.

My first project was a Jumbo Tag.  I like to use bigger tags to hang off of the plain white/kraft gift bags that you can buy in bulk from Michael's, Walmart, etc.  Finished size of this Jumbo tag is 4 1/2" x 6 1/2".

The coloring technique that I used for the tag was ink blending.  Ink blending brushes, or sponge daubers can give the same effect.  I suggest you start with the lightest color and work your way darker.  You ink blend/sponge the color on, then take a paper towel and swipe across the paper to pick up all ink that will sit on top of the embossed patterns.  You can see when you wipe it, that the pattern shows brighter/whiter.

I stamped and embossed the flower with white embossing powder on the same colors of cardstock.  Flower and leaves stamps are from the Month By Month stamp that is included in the Virtual Album Retreat kit.

Paper Measurements:
  • Timid Tiger:  4 1/2" x 6 1/2"
  • Darling Duckling:  4 1/4" x 6 1/4"
  • Irresistible Designs Paper (Flower print):  4 1/16" x 6 1/16"  (cut 3/16" off of 4 1/4" x 6 1/4")
  • Darling Duckling/Timid Tiger/Strawberry Slush:  scraps to emboss and hand-cut flowers
  • Strawberry Slush:  2 1/4" circle
  • Basic White:  1 3/4" circle, and scrap to stamp and hand-cut leaves
I popped the flowers up with Stampin' Dimensionals, kind of in a curved line.   Add Clear Wink of Stella all over the hand-cut flowers.  I know it doesn't show well in the picture, but they are VERY shimmery.

In the video, I think I said I was going to leave a greeting off, not knowing what I would use it for.  By the time I added the flowers, I decided it will be for a birthday.

Add a few different ribbons and trims, and finish off with some Flat Pearls.  The Timid Tiger Faux Linen ribbon is really cool!

Stamps:  Month by Month Album Kit, Simply Said
Ink:  Darling Duckling, Timid Tiger, Strawberry Slush, Versamark
Paper:  Timid Tiger, Darling Duckling, Strawberry Slush, Basic White, Irresistible Designs papers
Other:  1 3/4" and 2 1/4" Circle punches, White embossing powder, 2025-2027 In Color Flat Pearls,  Timid Tiger 3/8" Faux Linen Ribbon, Iridescent Striped 1/2" trim, White Baker's Twine

The second project is a card.  I used REGULAR Stampin' Write Markers to add color to the Irresistible Designs papers.  DO NOT use Stampin' Blends.  Any alcohol marker is not going to wipe off of the embossed part of these papers.  It will color the embossed parts.  I used the brush tip ends of the markers and hand-drew lines, going in the same direction as the papers.

Again, wipe off with a paper towel after every color.

I focused on the greeting and added some punched out balloons.  You could add anything - flowers, stars, cupcakes, whatever you want.

Paper Measurements:
  • Secret Sea:  5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored at 4 1/4"
  • Basic White:  4"  5 1/4", for inside of the card

  • Secret Sea/Timid Tiger/Darling Duckling: scraps to punch out balloons
Finish off with some Secret Sea Flat Pearls.

The last project is near and dear to my heart - another box!  I will say up front that the measurements for the BOX BOTTOM that I gave in the video did not work out.  What I list below is accurate.  I had to remake it, so it was perfectly sized.

The method that I used to color the Irresistible Papers for the Box Lid/Top was a take on Ink Smooshing.  Usually with ink smooshing, you would use a piece of window sheet or plastic bag to pick up a small amount of ink and smoosh it onto your paper.  A few years ago, I came up with Ink Smashing which is on a bigger scale using a glass mat.

This was in between.  For this method, I used a medium size ink block.  Swipe some ink on the block, then spritz with water (I did 4 spritzes).  Turn it over quickly and smear all over the cardstock.  I only used two colors, because I was afraid of muddying too many colors together.  You could certainly try three though...

Again, wipe the top of your patterned resist paper, then proceed to make the box like you normally would.  I also used a mini heat drying tool to speed up the drying process.  You're adding a lot of water to that Irresistible Designs paper, and it wants to warp.

Paper Measurements:
  • Irresistible Designs Paper (Leaves print):  6" x 8", scored at 1" on all sides
  • Granny Apple Green:  7 7/8" x 9 7/8", scored at 2" on all sides
  • Granny Apple Green:  2" circle
  • Basic White:  1 3/4" circle, and scraps to stamp/hand-cut leaves
I made a tag and some hand-cut leaves after, to add to the packaging.  I stamped the leaves in Granny Apple Green and Shy Shamrock, and then watercolored both in with their respective colors.   I stamped the greeting in Summer Splash - it seemed to look the best.

Side view of the box.  I LOVE making the bottom of the box taller than the lid, so that you can see the color.  Plus, it allows you to make a roomier box.

Stamps:  Layers of Beauty, It's Okay
Ink:  Granny Apple Green, Shy Shamrock, Summer Splash
Paper:  Granny Apple Green, Basic White, Irresistible Designs paper
Other:  1 3/4" and 2" Circle punches, 2024-2026 In Color Shimmer Gems, Apple Green grosgrain

Keep in mind - if you don't care for any of these pre-embossed patterned papers, you can make your own with ANY stamps you want, cardstock (probably white), and either white or clear embossing powder.  Give it a try!
