Terrific Toadstools Projects!

Good evening Crafty Friends!

I hope you are enjoying your weekend.  I spent two hours at our local Joann's store earlier tonight, and came home with a bag full of stuff that I do not need AT ALL.  :)  I mean, the 10 skeins of yarn are to crochet scarves for a cancer donation group.  I needed those.  The fabric that I am telling myself I'm going to make placemats with, at some point this year...we'll see.  A few other bits and bobs.  They're going out of business, so I justify it in my head.

Anyway, you're here to read about the Terrific Toadstools projects that I made Thursday night.  I LOVE the toadstools!  The Toadstool Gardens 6" x 6" paper pack is a Sale-a-Bration item this year, so you can only get it for free with a $60 (before tax/sh) purchase.  I haven't seen any indication that it's low on stock, but all of the Sale-a-Bration freebies are while supplies last.  Just keep that in mind...

I hope you can see that if you do not have the Terrific Toadstools stamps, you just substitute whatever toadstool/mushroom images that you do have and whatever papers that you have.  Copy my designs!

Just a reminder that I am generally Live on-line every Thursday at 8:00pm ET.  I stream to BOTH YouTube and Facebook simultaneously.  NOTE:  Facebook has been sporadically giving me fits lately, so I recommend viewing on YouTube.

If you are not able to catch me live, you can watch over on YouTube.  If the picture does not appear below, you can click HERE to get to it on YouTube.

First card is an Easel card, and I used the Countryside Corners dies to make this one a shaped card.  Start out with a regular A2 size card, and carefully place the folded edge underneath the top cut line on the die.  I used the largest die to make the card base.  You'll need to cut out an extra piece of Granny Apple Green, same size die, to make your Easel.

Cut the designer series paper with the next size down die.  Stamp the hills directly on the DSP.  All toadstools are hand-cut here.

HINT:  I inked up the entire greeting stamp, and then gently wiped off the "hi" with paper towel.

Paper Measurements:
  • Granny Apple Green:  5 1/2” x 8 1/2”, scored at 4 1/4”, cut with largest die
  • Basic White:  4” x 5 1/4”, for inside of card, cut with second largest die
  • Toadstool Gardens DSP:  4” x 5 1/4”, cut with second largest die
  • Basic White:  enough to stamp and cut out all of your toadstool pieces and greeting
View of the card opened.  For an easel card, you need a stopper - something popped up to hold your card up and in place.

Finish off with some Transparent Adhesive-Backed Dots. I used clear and both shades of green.

Stamps:  Terrific Toadstools, Simply Said
Ink:  Granny Apple Green, Cherry Cobbler, Crushed Curry, Gorgeous Grape, Gray Granite, Crumb Cake
Paper:  Granny Apple Green, Basic White, Toadstool Gardens Designer Series Paper
Other: Countryside Corner dies, Transparent Dots

The second project uses one of the Large bags from the Gift Bag Combo pack.  I covered the front and back sides, added ribbon handles, and added some decorative stamping and layering.  The bag itself is sturdy, but the handle...not that great.  Do not use this for anything heavy, or use thicker ribbon for your handles.

I did use the Fresh Freesia 3/8" Seam binding - another Sale-a-Bration freebie with purchase.

Again, stamp and hand-cut all of your toadstool pieces.  I added a layer of vellum cardstock (that I got from scrapbook.com - it's a good enough replacement for the vellum cardstock that Stampin' Up no longer carries.)

Paper Measurements:
  • Toadstool Gardens DSP:  (2) 4 7/17" x 5 11/16"
  • Vellum cardstock:  3 1/2" x 4", cut with postage dies
  • Toadstool Gardens DSP (Purple striped):  2 1/2" x 3 3/8"
  • Basic White:  enough to stamp and cut all your toadstools
Notice that I did not add a greeting.  I'll do that when I know who/what I'll use this bag for.  I did add some of the Purple Sequins, which is yet ANOTHER Sale-a-Bration freebie with purchase.

Stamps:  Terrific Toadstools
Ink: Melon Mambo, Fresh Freesia. Pumpkin Pie, Gray Granite
Paper:  Vellum cardstock, Basic White, Toadstool Gardens Designer Series Paper
Other:  Postage stamp dies (Unity Stamp Co), Purple Sequins, Fresh Freesia 3/8" Seam Binding ribbon, Gift Bag Combo pack

My last project is a Back-Fold Card.  FULL DISCLAIMER:  I messed up the inside paper and scoring in my live video.  The measurements that I give you below are correct, and what you should follow.  I went in a completely different color direction for this one.  I wanted a more realistic, woodsy feel to this card.  I think this would look great with greens as the base colors as well...Mossy Meadow, maybe?  That's an idea that I will try out later!

Something to note - when I emboss more than one piece on a card, I usually try to use different folders.  That's on purpose, so we have more interest.  In this case, I went the opposite and used the Fern folder for both embossed pieces, so that it would tie everything together.  That was my idea anyway...

I also showed you how to add some more color to your stamped images to add accents of color or texture.  I used Stampin' Blends, but you could use ink blending, ink sponginge, watercolor pencils, watercolor crayons, stampin' Write markers, regular colored pencils...anything to add more color or texture to your stamped images.

I gave the medium size toadstool a little bit of darker coloring on the edges, and then I added some speckles to the largest toadstool.  I like it!   That's definitely something you should try with any solid-stamped image.

Paper Measurements:
  • Pecan Pie:  5 1/2" x 7 1/4", scored at 1 1/4", 4 1/4"
  • Basic White:  2 3/4" x 5 1/4", for inside
  • Country Woods Designer Series paper:  2 15/16" x 5 7/16"
  • Pecan Pie:  1 3/16" x 5 7/16", embossed with Fern folder
  • Early Espresso:  2 3/4" circle, cut with Spotlight on Nature dies
  • Basic White:  2 1/4" circle, embossed with Fern folder
  • Basic White:  enough to stamp and hand-cut your toadstools
Card opened.  See how the 1 1/4" flap on the right side flips backwards?

Stamps:  Terrific Toadstools
Ink:  Early Espresso, Pecan Pie, Crum Cake, Real Red
Paper:  Pecan Pie, Early Espresso, Basic White, Country Woods Designer series paper
Other:  Spotlight on Nature dies, 2 1/4" circle punch, Fern embossing folder, Stampin' Blends

I hope that you are inspired to try these out, or that you just enjoy looking at them.  :)  Sometimes I make stuff just because it's pretty and I like to look at it.  That's okay!

Next week I'm going to be sharing some projects made with the Mediterranean Blooms paper pack.  I did not get the matching stamps, so I'll be doing some fun folds and other ways to use the paper as the focal images along with various greetings.  I think we need ideas like this when we get papers in a Paper Share, which is how I ended up with this pack.  I did not like the coordinating stamps enough to get them, but I like the papers well enough.  See what gorgeous beauties I come up with!

Thanks for visiting, and Happy stamping!
