July 2023 Virtual Workshop - Cheerful Daisies

Hello Crafty Friends!

If you weren’t able to join me live on Thursday night, please check out the video.  This month's Workshop features the Cheerful Daisies products.  I LOVE this two-step stamp set, and the dies cut beautiful flowers that can totally stand on their own, as you’ll see.  My plan is always to design projects that you can make whether you have the stamps that I’m using or not.  Maybe you have a different daisy stamp, or even a different flower entirely.  I hope you can take these ideas and have fun creating!

Check out my Workshop of the Month page for details about my workshop, the ordering specials and the online ordering code.  Short version:  Use code BTD7GRVW when qualifying placing your order online this month and get some freebies -
  • $50 online order (before tax/shipping) will get you the Make-n-Take kit (all the paper pieces and envelopes) for this workshop.
  • $75 online order (before tax/shipping) will get you the Make-n-Take Kit AND a pack of the NEW In Color Jute Trim that I used on two of the projects.
Just a reminder that I am generally Live on-line every Thursday at 8:00pm ET.  I am streaming to BOTH YouTube and Facebook simultaneously.

If you are not able to catch me live, you can watch over on YouTube.  If the picture does not appear below, you can click HERE to get to it on YouTube.

First project uses the Masking technique, and gives you the opportunity to choose your own flower colors.  Stamp the outline images of your flower of choice, and color in using whatever medium you prefer.  I did ink-blending.  You could color in with markers of any kind, watercolor pencils, regular colored pencils, water coloring with an aqua painter, chalks, crayons…anything you want.

I’ve provided Basic White THICK cardstock in the kits, because it is better for some of those coloring techniques:  alcohol markers and water coloring.

Paper measurements:
  • Basic Black:  5 1/2" x 8 1/2”, scored and folded in half at 4 1/4”
  • Basic White:  4” x 5 1/4”, for inside of card
  • Basic White Thick:  4” x 5 1/4”
  • Basic White Thick:  3 13/16” x 5 1/16”, to stamp on
Use Reverse masking to color in the flowers using ink blending brushes.  I thought I added a little Clear Wink of Stella to the flower petals, but now that I’m looking at it up close…I don’t see any.  Add it!  More shimmer never hurt anybody.

I finished off with some Iridescent Rhinestones.  Even though it’s a sympathy card, you can still add some shiny bits.

Stamps:  Cheerful Daisies, Kindest Expressions
Ink:  Onyx Versafine, Fresh Freesia, Bubble Bath, Lemon Lilly
Paper: Basic Black, Basic White (Thick and Regular)
Other:  Iridescent Rhinestones, Clear Wink of Stella

For this second project, I’m giving you all three die-cut layers for the flower cluster so the only stamp you need is a greeting!  I used Old Olive ink, but it was suggested that Basic Gray would look nice too…and I agree!  I do like yellow and gray together!

The piece of vellum is embossed, and then I attached the adhesive sheet to the back side before attaching to the Basic White strip.  This is the only way that I’ve found to add vellum to a project without seeing the glue.  If I don’t use Adhesive Sheets, I will sometimes strategically place glue dots under the vellum where I know I’ll be adding a gem or something to cover it up.  Make sense?

Paper measurements:
  • Lemon Lilly:  5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored and folded in half at 4 1/4"
  • Basic White:  4" x 5 1/4", for inside of card
  • Lemon Lilly:  4" x 5 1/4", embossed with Exposed Brick folder
  • Basic White:  2 1/4” x 5 1/4”
  • Vellum:  2” x 5 1/4”, embossed with Basics #2 folder
  • Adhesive Sheet:  2” x 5 1/4”
  • Basic White:  1/2 sheet to die cut all the flower layers and the greeting label
After I assembled the card, I went back and added Clear Wink of Stella to the very TOP layer of the flowers.  Close up to see the shimmer -

Pop that greeting label up, along with the daisy cluster.  Finish with some of the Lemon Lolly gems.

Stamps:  Cheerful Daisies bundle
Ink:  Old Olive
Paper:  Lemon Lolly, Basic White, Vellum
Other:  Exposed Brick and Basics #2 embossing folders, Adhesive Sheets, Lolly Gems, Clear Wink of Stella

My third project is a card showcasing some of the beautiful papers, and coloring on white embossed images.  The center of the daisy - I embossed both the daisy and the centerpiece in White powder, heat it up, and cut them out.  Then take a yellow Stampin’ Blend (I used Dark Daffodil Delight) and carefully dot/color over all of the embossed area of the centerpiece.  I don’t recommend this technique for a large area, because you’ll get some white residue on the tip of your Stampin’ Blend marker.  It’s not permanent, but why risk it?  This technique would let you emboss and color images on something dark - like, Basic Black for instance.  Very cool possibilities that I may explore more with you later.

Wrap some of that beautiful Copper Clay Jute around the card layers and pop up the flower and greeting.

Paper measurements:
  • Copper Clay:  5 1/2" x 8 1/2", scored and folded in half at 4 1/4"
  • Pretty Peacock:  4" x 5 1/4"
  • Cheerful Daisies DSP/bolder flower print:  3 7/8” x 5 1/8”
  • Basic White:  4" x 5 1/4", for inside of card
  • Cheerful Daisies DSP:  4” x 4”, to stamp and die-cut flower and center
  • Basic White:  1” x 4”, to stamp greeting on
I punched one end of my greeting strip with the Happy Labels Pick a punch.  Glued it down, and cut off what was hanging over the edge.  I did this before I mounted to my card front.

Finish off with some Iridescent Rhinestones.  Can you tell that I love those things??

Stamps: Cheerful Daisies bundle
Ink:  Pretty Peacock, Versamark
Paper:  Copper Clay, Pretty Peacock, Basic White, Cheerful Daisies Designer series paper
Other:  Happy Labels Pick a Punch, Basics embossing powders (white), Iridescent Rhinestones, In Color Jute, Dark Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blend marker

The fourth project is a really nice size tag.  3 1/2” x 6”.  I love extra large tags like this!  Tie this one on a Kraft gift bag, or add to a scrapbook or journal.  I used a small piece of the Cheerful Daisies designer series paper which has Moody Mauve and Wild Wheat together.  I like it!

For this tag, you’ll have the die-cut daisy pieces ready to go.  Stamp a background of your choice, and the greeting.  I hand-cut the greeting.  You may want to use a punch.

Paper measurements:
  • Moody Mauve:  3 1/2” x 6”
  • Wild Wheat:  2 1/4” x 3 1/2”
  • Cheerful Daisies Designer Series paper/Moody Mauve-White-WildWheat print:  2” x 3 1/2”
  • Moody Mauve/Basic White:  enough to die-cut the flower clusters and back layer
  • Basic White:  4 1/4” x 5 1/2”, to stamp and cut or punch out greeting
Add a Jumbo Eyelet to the top, tie some Moody Mauve and Wild Wheat Jute through.  I have seen people fray this twine, like all the way.  It’s a really cool look, but I did not have the patience to do that.  I will definitely try it with another project and share my results.

Finish off with some In Color Dots!

Stamps:  Cheerful Daisies Bundle, Kindest Expressions, Sketched Plaid
Ink:   Moody Mauve, Wild Wheat
Paper:  Moody Mauve, Wild Wheat, Basic White, Cheerful Daisies Designer series paper
Other:  In Color Jute, In Color Dots, Pewter Jumbo eyelet
