Happy Sunday Crafty Peeps!
I'm so excited to finally share this Waterfall Folio project with you! Up front - I did mess up the ribbon closure on the waterfall...I should have attached the bottom bit of ribbon to the back side of the piece I put it on...not the front, where the tape interferes with my pocket. Watch the video and you'll know what I'm talking about. We all make mistakes, right?
In this video, I'm showing you how to make the folio with a waterfall, pockets, and a few tags/journaling tags/photo mounts. You use this folio however you want! I intend to put some camping pictures in mine, but this would be a great quick little project for Father's Day or a birthday.
Drawing inspiration from several other paper crafters, I came up with my own measurements for this folio to use ONE piece of 8 1/2" x 11" cardstock as the base. I specifically did not want to use 12" x 12" cardstock. I used the He's the Man Designer Series papers to decorate my pages, but you can change all of these colors and papers around to suit your need.
Just a reminder that I am Live on-line every Thursday at 8:00pm ET. I am streaming to BOTH YouTube and Facebook simultaneously.
If you are not able to catch me live, you can watch over on YouTube. If the picture does not appear below, you can click HERE to get to it on YouTube.
Let's go over the paper measurements first. I'm not listing colors, because I want you to use what suits you. Remember, the base of this folio is ONE piece of 8 1/2" x 11" cardstock. I added covers to the inside and outside covers, to make it a little sturdier.
Paper Measurements:
- Folio Base:
- (1) 8 1/2” x 11”, scored at 5 3/8" and 5 5/8" (this gives you a 1/4" spine)
- Cover layers, inside and out (4) 5 1/8” x 8 1/4, emboss (2) for F&B covers.
- Waterfall flaps and pocket on right side of folio:
- (7) cardstock, 4 5/8” x 5 1/8”, scored at 1/2” on short side
- (7) DSP, 4” x 5”
- Two pockets on left side of folio:
- (1) 3 1/8” x 5 1/8”
- (1) 3 5/8” x 6 1/8”, scored at 1/2” on 3 sides
- (2) DSP, 3” x 5”
I'm only going to show you some highlight pictures. This shows the open folio. I've got the Waterfall, and a pocket on the right side, and two more pockets on the left.
After you cut and score all of your card stock and designer series papers you can match up which pieces of DSP you want to put with which colors of cardstock for your waterfall. You might choose to use only one color of cardstock for all of your pieces - that would look nice too!
I glued down my 4" x 5" pieces of DSP to ALL but the first and last flaps. I left the first and last without DSP, because you'll want to add a ribbon BEFORE you add the DSP. I actually messed up the bottom piece of ribbon.
Starting at the tippy top of (1) of the 5 1/8” x 8 1/4 pieces, attach your waterfall layers with the 1/2" flap DOWN. Start with your first flap that should NOT have DSP on it at this time. Then you'll butt the next waterfall page right underneath that flap, and continue down the page. Once you have all (6) waterfalls glued down, go back to the first piece and add ribbon with strong adhesive, before you add that piece of DSP.
I would glue your pocket on (use liquid glue, not sticky tape), and then add the ribbon to the back side. Then take that whole layer and glue down to the right hand inside of the folio.
This just shows some random bits of cardstock that I folded to make for journaling spots, or adding little pictures...whatever you want, to tuck inside that bottom pocket.
Then I moved to the left side of the folio to add (2) more pockets, and some more tags/journaling tags/photo mounts. You'll need to watch the video to see how I attached these two pockets. The upper pocket is only glued down on the two sides. The bottom pocket has flaps on (3) sides to fold in and glue - it makes for a little bit roomier pocket.
The "You're Flippin' Awesome" ephemera is only glued down on two sides, making it a tuck spot.
After I got all of the base pieces, waterfalls, and pockets done - I went back in to each page or pocket and added some ephemera from the He's the Man DSP pack.
I did NOT decorate the cover just yet because I want to cut out letters for the camp ground...and I wasn't sure of the name. Mom and I talked out earlier today and figured out it's Camp Harmison. We used to go there with our church.
I thought this is a really fun, and fairly quick project to pull together. I have to find my camping pictures to add to mine!
