Hello Crafty Friends!
Today, I'm sharing my video and projects from this past Thursday. I was in the mood to make SLIMLINE cards, AND a custom-sized box to hold them in. I was able to make a perfect-fitting box using 8 1/2" x 11" cardstock! That's always a plus in my book. I hope you enjoy!
Just a reminder that I am Live on-line every Thursday at 8:00pm ET. I am streaming to BOTH YouTube and Facebook simultaneously.
If you are not able to catch me live, you can watch over on YouTube. If the picture does not appear below, you can click HERE to get to it on YouTube.
The Slim Line Envelopes that are available for sale now come in a pack with three colors - Soft Succulent, Smoky Slate, and White/Black. I decided to make a card to coordinate with each envelope color.
For the first project, I paired the Texture Chic 12" x 12" Designer series papers with the Paradise Palms and Slim Saying stamps. I wanted to make the gold in the papers really stand out, so I gold-embossed everything...the groups of trees and the greeting.
Paper Measurements:
- Soft Succulent: 7" x 8 1/2", scored and folded in half at 3 1/2"
- Petal Pink: 3" x 8"
- Texture Chic Designer Series Paper: 2 13/16" x 7 13/16"
- Basic White: 3 1/4" x 8 1/4" for inside of card
- Soft Suede: scraps to die cut lattice
- Basic White: scrap to stamp/emboss/die-cut palm trees
- Basic White: 1" x 8", to stamp/emboss greeting
Once you have everything gold-embossed and die-cut, assembly is pretty easy. The second group of palm trees is glued down flat to the card front.
Glue the Soft Suede lattice pieces on the back side of the greeting, then pop that whole bit up with some foam tape. Add the remaining two palm tree clusters with foam tape/Stampin' Dimensionals behind the tops, and glue the trunks to greeting strip
Finish off with some of the NEW In Color Opal Rounds. The Pale Papaya matches close enough to the Petal Pink in this case. It works!
Stamps: Paradise Palms bundle, Slim Sayings
Ink: Versamark
Paper: Soft Socculent, Petal Pink, Soft Suede, Basic White, Texture Chic Designer series paper
Other: Metallics embossing powders (gold), 2022-2024 In Color Opal Rounds
My second slimline card uses ALL die cuts from the Horizon dies. Greeting is again the from Slim Sayings stamps. Very easy card to put together - cut all your landscape pieces in black and all of the shades of gray and then build your scene.
Paper Measurements:
- Smoky Slate: 7" x 8 1/2", scored and folded in half at 3 1/2"
- Basic White: 3" x 8"
- Smoky Slate: 2 7/8" x 7 7/8"
- Basic White: 3 1/4" x 8 1/4" for inside of card
- Basic Black/Basic Gray/Smoky Slate/Gray Granite: scraps to die cut horizon bits
- Basic White: scrap to stamp greeting.
All of the horizon pieces are glued down flat. I put some Black Mini Stampin' Dimensionals behind the two larger trees, but the rest of that die cut is glued flat.
I stamped the greeting in black, and hand-cut it. Popped it up. Add some Clear Wink of Stella to the "moon".
Stamps: Slim Sayings
Ink: Midnight (Catherine Pooler)
Paper: Smoky Slate, Basic White, Basic Black, Basic Gray, Gray Granite
Other: Horizon dies, Clear Wink of Stella marker, Classic Matte Dots
I made the third card ahead of time, because I just didn't think I'd have time for it - and it's a good thing that I did. This one features the flowers/leaves from the Ranunculous Rose bundle. Just die-cut those pieces and glue together. I used the new In Color - Sweet Sorbet - for the detailed top layer of the flower, and Poppy Parade for the solid bottom layer. Leaves are cut from Parakeet Party.
I also used the All Together designer series papers, and the Here Together stamp for the greeting. Remember - these products are ONLY available through 5/31/2022!!!
Paper Measurements:
- Basic Black: 7" x 8 1/2", scored and folded in half at 3 1/2"
- Basic White: 3 3/16" x 8 3/16"
- Basic White: 3" x 8"
- All Together Designer Series Paper (diagonal print): 2 7/8" x 6"
- Basic White: 3 1/4" x 8 1/4" for inside of card
I added some White 3/8" Glittered Organdy around the white layers here, and finished with a few more Classic Matte Dots (black)
Stamps: Here Together
Ink: Midnight (Catherine Pooler)
Paper: Basic Black, Basic White, Sweet Sorbet, Poppy Parade, Parakeet Party, All Together designer series paper
Other: Ranunculus dies, White 3/8" Glittered Organdy ribbon, Classic Matte Dots
NOW - for the BOX that will hold all of these cards and envelopes (with room for at least 2 more cards and envelopes).
I made the first box on video using this pattern that I drew out and explained. The box measurements are based on the size of the envelopes - 3 7/8" x 8 7/8"...means that my box needs to be 4" x 9" to give a wee bit of wiggle room.
I know the green marker may be hard to read. You'll need these two pieces of paper to make this box as originally planned:
- Bottom/Basic Black: 5 15/16" x 10 15/16" - Score all sides at 1".
- Top/Petal Pink: 5" x 10" - Score all sides at 1/2".
This will give us a 4" x 9" x 1" tall box, and the lid/top will have 1/2" sides.
I talked in the video about wanting a longer side piece for the Top. 1/2" seemed too small, so I made an Alternate Box Top with a 3/4" edge...Alternate pattern here in blue.
I used Basic Gray for my alternate top: 5 1/2" x 10 1/2". Score all sides at 3/4".
This shows the lids/tops side by side, so you can really see the difference. I do prefer the 3/4".
What else could you fit in a box this size? I'm thinking a tie, maybe dress socks, jewelry, tickets to an event maybe...lots of possibilities! I hope you find it useful!
I'll be presenting my June Workshop this Thursday, 6/2 at 8:00pm.
