I am in love with the Shimmer Vellum papers - available in the latest batch of In Colors! HINT: there are Gold Shimmer Vellum papers coming in the July-December Catalog...I can't wait to get those too.
In fact, you can get a share of GOLD Shimmer Vellum for FREE if you join my Paper Share! I need RSVPs and payment by Sunday (8/1 - this is the last call!)...so let me know asap if you want in on that.
Just a reminder that I normally go Live on my Facebook Page every Thursday at 11:00am ET. NOTE: This will change starting NEXT WEEK on August 5th. I go back to regular day shift hours at work, so I'm moving my Lives to 8:00pm ET.
If you were not able to catch me live, you can still watch it on YouTube! If the picture does not appear below, you can click HERE to get to it on YouTube.
Let's start with the paper measurements, since they are the same for all (5) of the In Color cards:
Paper measurements:
- Basic White Thick: 4 1/4" x 11", scored in half at 5 1/2".
- 2021-2023 In Colors (Fresh Freesia, Pale Papaya, Soft Succulent, Polished Pink, Evening Evergreen) CARD STOCK: 4" x 5 1/4"
- 2021-2023 In Color Shimmer Vellum (same colors as above): 4 1/2" x 6"
- 2021-2023 In Color Designer Series Paper: torn strips approx 1 1/2" x 5".
- Basic White: 5 1/2" x 8 1/2" piece, use all of the Meadows dies to cut flowers/weeds; scrap to die cut label for greeting.
I made these cards in a semi-assembly line fashion. I had run all of the 4" x 5 1/4" layers through with the Stitched Greenery die ahead of time. First step, is to glue all of those down to the card bases.
Then I added the Shimmer vellum pieces. I started out with those at 4 1/2" x 6", because that is the size of the Stitched Greenery die. I knew I would want to cut them in 1/2, so I was planning for extra.
WELL.
Using the Stitched Greenery die on the Shimmer vellum did NOT have the effect that I expected. It barely cut through the vellum. I tried cutting it right side up, and then on the opposite side of another color - not happy with the results. I also tried running it through the die TWICE. That was also not a great idea - it cracked and ripped the vellum.
For the last two pieces - Polished Pink, and Pale Papaya - I used embossing folders on those. I think this is how I will continue to use the Shimmer Vellums - die cutting or punching things out of it and embossing bits. It's really very pretty though, and you only need to use a little bit as an accent to your projects.
Next, I ripped pieces of the In Color Designer series papers. Glue the vellum down first, then glue the dsp down slightly overlapping the vellum. Hold those down for a minute.
Pick out your flowers/weeds - I added two bunches to each card. Glue those down flat.
Then add your greeting popped up with Stampin' Dimensionals, and the bow. I tied two ribbons together - White Crinkled Seam Binding, and White Baker's Twine.
I finished all of the cards with a variety of baubles - In Color Jewels, Pearls, and Rhinestones.
During the video, I made mention of having an extra card base, and possibly making a card with a White layer. After filming, I cut a white piece with the Stitched Greenery die, and went to work. Here's what I came up with -
Glue down some flowers/weeds, and add a greeting. This time I stamped the greeting on a label from the Ornate Labels dies.
Finished off with the same White Crinkled Seam binding/Baker's Twine bow, and some In Color Jewels. I used one of each jewel color, near it's color.
I am really pleased with this card!
I hope you catch my August Workshop - it will feature lots of TREES.
I'll also be switching my Live time to 8:00pm ET. My work schedule is changing back to "normal" hours. I've been on eve shift for the past year, with COVID restrictions at work.
