Mini Notepad Folios

Don't you just LOVE a decorated notepad?  I love making lists, so it's natural that I am drawn to note books, note pads, journals...anything I can write my lists on, or in, is a wonderful thing.

This week, I showed how to make a new folio-style cover for two different sized notepads.  One is very tiny - 3 1/2" x 5", and the other is 5" x 8".  I love these projects!

Just a reminder that I go Live on my Facebook Page every Thursday at 11:00am ET.

If you were not able to catch me live, you can still watch it on my Demonstrator Page later, OR on YouTube.  If the picture does not appear below, you can click HERE to get to it on YouTube.

My purpose in demonstrating both of these notebooks was to show you HOW to get the correct measurements for cardstock sizes and scoring that you need, depending on your notepad size.  You may/most likely have different sized notepads in your stash, so I show you how to come up with those measurements to fit what you already have.

Let's get to the first notepad!  It is tiny and adorable...3 1/2" x 5" in size.  For this folio, I added a diagonal pocket to the left-hand side.

Paper Measurements (keep in mind, these measurements only apply to the same exact size notepad that I used):
  • Purple Posy cardstock:  5 1/4" x 11".  Score across the long side at 3 5/8", 3 7/8", and 7 1/2".
  • White: 3 3/8" x 5:
  • Playing with Patterns DSP: 3 1/4" x 4 7/8"
  • scraps of Purple Posy, white, and the dsp to punch the ovals and butterflies.
Here's a picture that I drew during my video to explain the scoring. The 3 1/2 x 5 is the size of the notepad.  The dotted lines are scoring.  The 3 solid lines on the right hand side indicate where the notepad will be placed...up to that first score mark.  The border around the notepad is 1/8" on the 3 sides.
Inside, after you've folded everything, cut that last flap at an angle to make the pocket, and attached the notepad.

For the cover, I kept it very simple.  I don't like to add very much dimension to these covers because they are going to get a lot of wear and tear on them.  Constantly shoving them in and out of my purse, or my totebag is too much for these lovelies to handle.

I stamped "a little note" in Night of Navy ink, and use the Double Oval punch to make this layered greeting focal point.  All of that is glued flat.  Then I punched some butterflies out of the DSP scraps that I had and attached them.   I did add a few rhinestones - that's as 3-D as I will get for these covers!

The second notepad is bigger at 5" x 8".  I still want to have a pocket inside the cover flap, so I need to have TWO pieces of cardstock for my folio.

Paper Measurements (again, these measurements only apply to the same exact size notepad that I used):
  • A - Gorgeous Grape cardstock:  8 1/4" x 9 7/8".  Score across the long side at 2", 2 1/4", and 7 3/8".   ***IF you watched the video, you'll notice that I cut this piece 8 1/4" x 11" originally, but then I ended up cutting some off of the final piece for the fold-over pocket.  These measurements require no additional cutting.
  • B - Gorgeous Grape cardstock:  5 1/8" x 8 1/4".  No scoring.  This will just be glued to the back side of the notepad, AFTER the first piece of Gorgeous Grape is attached.
  • Highland Heather: 4 5/8" x 7 3/4"
  • Hydrangea Haven DSP: 4 1/2" x 7 5/8"
Here's a picture that I drew during my video to explain the scoring of Gorgeous Grape Piece A.  The 2" flap on the right side of this diagram gets glued on to the back of the notepad.  Then Gorgeous Grape Piece B gets glued on the back, and covers up that part of Piece A.

How the inside looks.  For this pocket, I did not angle-cut anything.  I just did a fold-over, so it's a side-tuck spot.

The front cover is just designer series paper at this point.  I will add a layered oval/scallop oval piece on the front, and probably die-cut my mom's initial.  I may add some punched out butterflies too.

I'll post a picture of the finished project next week.  No more time for the next few days!

I hope this helps you to figure out the precise measurements to cover your own notepad.

Thanks for visiting, and Happy stamping!
