Stack the Deck Mini Album Project

Sunday Greetings Craft Friends!

Last Thursday, I demonstrated how to make a mini album using the "Stack the Deck" system.  You can use this to make hinges for mini books, OR for the pages themselves as I did here.  Warning - I did have one oopsie when I was making the covers.  It happens.  :)  It wouldn't be ME, if something didn't go wrong. hahaha!  I love the end result, and have a few pictures of the inside of the album below.

This album is 4 1/2" x 6 3/4" with a 1 1/2" spine, finished.

Just a reminder that I am generally Live on-line every Thursday at 8:00pm ET.  I am streaming to BOTH YouTube and Facebook simultaneously.

If you are not able to catch me live, you can watch over on YouTube.  If the picture does not appear below, you can click HERE to get to it on YouTube.

Did you notice that my book is LANDSCAPE???  I usually make my albums and books in a portrait orientation, but I knew that most of my pictures from last Easter and Mother's Day were landscape.  It's my book, so I decided to turn it the way I wanted to!  The most important thing I can stress when you are making your album/book cover is to consider pattern direction.  I had to pay attention so that my flowers were going the right direction on the front cover.  I wasn't worried about the back side.

You will definitely have to watch the video for assembly of this book, but I am providing all of the measurements here.

Covers and Spine (whiteboard - I glued 2 pieces of whiteboard together for each piece):
  • (4) 4 1/2" x 6 3/4"
  • (2) 1 1/2" x 6 3/4"
CS or DSP to wrap cover:
  • (1) 8" x 12"
CS to cover INSIDE of spine:  4" x 6 1/2"

CS (pages to stack) - score ALL of these on the long side at 4 1/4" from each end
  • (1) 6 1/4" x 8 3/4"
  • (1) 6 1/4" x 9 1/4"
  • (1) 6 1/4" x 9 3/4"
DSP - to add to each page:
  • (12) 4" x 6"
CS or DSP to cover inside covers:
  • (2) 4 1/4" x 6 1/2"
CS or DSP to make pocket on inside back cover**:
  • (1) 2 1/4" x 7" - score at 1/4" on 3 sides.
**If your album is PORTRAIT, your pocket piece should be cut 3 1/4" x 4 3/4".  Still score on 3 sides.

You'll also need 2 pieces of ribbon, and whatever you want to doll your cover up with.

Let's look at some pictures of my book.  We'll start with the cover again.

Album on it's side, so you can see the spine and the "stack the deck" pages.

Open the cover to see my first page.  I haven't added any journaling or doo-dads, but I'll get to that.   I'll add something to that blank inside front cover with details/dates.

Middle of the book to show that I trimmed some pictures down.  I'll be able to add a little punched or die cut something to fill up some of that space.

Finally the last page and pocket on the inside back cover.  This pocket holds FULL size 4" x 6" photos - didn't have to cut them down at all.  These are the extra pics from Easter and Mother's Day that didn't make the cut.  I'll keep them here in this pocket forever.

The only part that I stamped or dolled up was the cover, so I'll share materials that I used to make the book

Stamps:  Hand-Penned Petals
Ink:  Sweet Sorbet, Pale Papaya, Evening Evergreen
Paper:  Evening Evergreen, Soft Succulent, Basic White, Lovely in Linen designer series paper
Other:  Penned Flowers dies, Alphabet a la Mode dies, Playful Alphabet dies, Greenery die, Clear Wink of Stella, Evening Evergreen sheer ribbon, whiteboard (the piece that comes in the designer series paper packs)

I mentioned that it would be neat to make a square book in a similar fashion, so I'll definitely add that to my list of projects!

This week, I'll show off some more Last Chance products...everything is still get it while it lasts!
